Hello NSFL Enthusiasts,
Wait, hold on. The name changed to ISFL? What are these new teams?? It is already S47??? A lot has changed since I've last been active here and I want to take a little trip down memory lane (and pad the bank account for my new player). I also want to note that a lot of current GMs around the league who might look at drafting my player are GMs I have gone inactive on in the past or have flat out ignored in DMs. I apologize for my transgressions and hope that this post can be used to quell potential draft concerns regarding the activity level of my new player.
I came into the league with the r/nfl recruitment post as a S17(?) create in August of 2019. I believe this was the biggest influx of new users for the league at the time, and I know I have seen some of those users still around here 30 seasons later. I had a very short active period but I'd say I accomplished quite a bit in my short time in the NSFL. My first player was a wide receiver ultimately named Jake Dropson. I remember being drafted by the Tijuana Luchadores and being promptly traded to the Portland Pythons way back then. Teaming up with Jay Cue and playing for Saba and Taco are some of my fondest memories in the league. We never won anything but the vibes of that team were very high and it was a great time. I started helping the team with strategy through simming, using a technique called Quick Ketchup that maybe some veterans remember to very quickly simulate and develop gameplans. At the same time, I became a media grader and had a great time reading articles just like this one and being aware of everything happening in the league.
This success led to me being offered the job of GM for the Philadelphia Liberty, an opportunity I definitely did not deserve. I teamed up with Hallmonitor to take over for the legendary GMs before us, Fordhammer and slm. Being a GM was a big step up in activity level compared to being a media grader and an active user. Unfortunately, I got very burned out very quickly and stepped down after just one or two seasons. I honestly do not remember and that shows how neglectful I was of the team. Hallmonitor stepped up while I stepped away, and I have nothing but praise for Hall. I did some research and it seems he recently stepped away from the ISFL himself, which is very unfortunate. I would have loved to be active in the league with him again. Regardless, I regret how I handled this responsibility and ended up falling inactive shortly after this. I kept updating when my GMs would ask me to, but I wasted a great player in Dropson and a great team and opportunity in the Liberty.
After that fiasco, I went off the ISFL grid for a while and came back with a half-assed attempt at a recreate with Jake Endson. This guy leaves a bad taste in my mouth because I was definitely not ready to come back to the league and went inactive yet again. However, I think I won a couple of Ultiminis with this player while inactive so, worth it? Yet, I had two players I had created fall inactive very shortly after creation, leading me to abandon the league yet again for multiple years. So why would my new player, Dexter Morgan, be any different than these guys?
The biggest reason why he will be different is I will stay with him. Me and Dex are going to ride this one to the end. I have evolved as a man since 2019 and I can now handle the harsh responsibilities of ... posting on an internet forum like twice per week. I waited to return until my enthusiasm to re-join the ISFL was unbearable. So, I dropped the name scheme and decided to create a player I would have fun with - a gunslinging quarterback. Yeah, I know. Having a history of going inactive and creating a quarterback does not seem like a good idea. But this QB is a testament to my commitment to the league. I will stay with him, and he will be successful. I'm not saying he'll be as good as Jay Cue was (and apparently there were two more of those while I was gone), but he will be a good player for the right team.
To the DSFL GMs who will scout me in the coming weeks and the ISFL GMs who will scout me after that, here's what Dexter Morgan can offer you:
1. Fierce loyalty. I am a very loyal person and that will extend to the team that makes the right decision to pick me up. One draft pick and you have my player for his glory years.
2. The desire to be great. When I check the TPE tracker 8 seasons from now, I want to see my player without having to scroll. This is what will drive me to stay active and on top of my game in this league.
3. Patience. I know lots of teams are not necessarily needing a quarterback, which is always the danger of creating one. All I ask is if you are interested in drafting my player, to have a plan in place for him. If you want him to run it up in the DSFL for a few years while your star quarterback rides out their glory years, fine by me. If he needs to be a backup for a while, no issues. Dexter will continue to get better and as long as there is a plan in place for him to get an opportunity eventually, he will be a low-maintenance project guy, ready to step up at any moment.
There it is. My history in this league and my mindset going forward with this player. I am excited to get back into the swing of things and to undertake this journey with all the folks. Also, I need to learn about these new teams. Philly relocated but at least Portland is still going strong, even if it looks like they rebranded. What the heck is a Hahalua? I have got plenty of time on my hands to re-learn the league, and I am ready for it.
Thank you for reading.
