Hi all, given that the DSFL draft is upon us, I figured I'd try my hand at a mock draft for the fun of it. This can be a very exciting feeling for many new creates and nothing beats the feeling of seeing your name high on a mock draft. Therefore, I'll be mocking the first round for the new creates as the recreates have already had their fun and been drafted before. I've created this with the idea that the first round should be filled with new creates only. This whole mock is based off of a new player's experience who doesn't know much about this league or how this sim works. For example, I have no clue which positions are more valuable in the sim than others so there's a high chance I overlook this. I also have no clue which players are going to be called up so as of now, I am picking based off the players that are on the roster now.
These picks are based off a bunch of factors including TPE and activity but there's a chance I may overlook a few minor details about players.
Here we go!
1.01 - Alexander Rockstone - CB
With the first pick, Dallas selects Alexander Rockstone. I went back and forth on this pick for a while. Dallas has holes in quite a few places on their roster so don't necessarily see a world where they have a bad pick. They lack a true CB1 but from what I've seen have a solid offense in place. Therefore, Dallas fills a position in need to improve their defense while adding a top player to their team. It's a win-win all around.
1.02 - D'Squarius Green Jr - TE
With the second pick, Norfolk selects D'Squarius Green Jr. Norfolk lack a true TE1 and while you could argue they could've gone with many other positions, ultimately Norfolk go BPA and choose D'Squarius. Norfolk seem to have a lot of other talent on their offensive skill positions which should help take the pressure and attention off D'Squarius further helping him succeed.
1.03 - Joe Blaze - S
With the third pick, Kansas City selects Joe Blaze. Again, this pick could've gone a lot of different ways and I spent some time deciding on who to pick here. Given that Kansas City needs defensive players, Blaze comes in to bolster their secondary which only has 1 true cornerback. I've seen teams with a lot of established offensive weapons, so to keep up with the rest of the league, Blaze will provide the necessary help over the top.
1.04 - Devin Mace - OL
With the fourth pick, London selects Devin Mace. I don't see a QB on London but I also don't see a new create QB that would fit here. Defensively, London looks really solid with a lot of real players spread out so they choose to focus on their offense here. With already a few weapons in place for their future QB, London adds to that by selecting Mace to help protect their future QB and help the running game. As an active player, Mace has a high chance to develop into a star player which is exactly what London needs on the OL.
1.05 - Benny the Jet - WR
With the fifth pick, Dallas selects Benny the Jet. Dallas already has 2 solid WRs but adding another one only further helps build its offense. This is a case of Dallas choosing BPA as Benny is an active user and gives them a future replacement for their WRs who I assume will be called up soon. Giving Jamarcus Qiller another weapon which would help spread out this offense even more turning it into a powerhouse.
1.06 - Bazooka Nuttingham - RB
With the sixth pick, Minnesota selects Bazooka Nuttingham. Minnesota simply needs more offensive weapons as their defense is very strong. With their former RB looking like they went IA, Bazooka comes in as a replacement to help bring this anemic offense to life. Bazooka will help add activity to this offense and help balance out this team by alleviating the pressure off their defense.
1.07 - Slam Dunkinson - DE
With the seventh pick, Tijuana selects Slam Dunkinson. Looking at their roster, Tijuana has 3 LBs but 2 of them are versatile LBs which I imagine means they can play off the ball. With the number of active new creates dwindling, Tijuana go with Slam Dunkinson to add another pass rusher to their team. This allows the versatile LBs to have more freedom in how they play while having the benefit of 2 solid pass rushers in front of them. With a solid secondary, this pick strengthens their defense turning it into a formidable unit.
1.08 - Tony Chazz - DT
With the last pick of the first round, Portland selects Tony Chazz. Portland's 2 DE look a little IA so they could use some juice on the defensive line. It also would round them out adding an interior presence in case the DEs do end up coming back. With a decent offense, Portland looks to build on their defense to help round them out. Chazz is an active player and with that, he stays in the first round.
So there you have it guys. This is my take on the first round of the DSFL draft using only new creates and my limited knowledge of the DSFL for now. I may continue to add onto this and add the next few rounds to also incorporate the recreates but for now just wanted to focus on the new creates. Apologies if I missed any other new creates that felt like they deserved to be on this, I went back and forth on a lot of these picks. There were many new creates that I felt had a case to be in the first round but ultimately went with other factors and my gut feeling. Feel free to let me know your thoughts below, would love to hear the feedback. I'm hoping as I learn more about the players and leagues, the next few rounds for this may become more accurate.
