After helping lead the Portland Pythons to an exciting championship title run in the DSFL, JC Tomlinson decided to retreat to his fishing cabin deep in the Virginia woods with no contact to the outside world beyond the local camp. He figured this would be the best way to get some peace and enjoy the victory and wait out the noise of the DSFL Season 50 Draft. In fact, when the Arizona Outlaws ended up selecting Tomlinson in the 3rd round, the Linebacker didn't know and wouldn't actually talk with the team until almost 2-3 days after the draft results! It was no concern of the latest Arizona Outlaw GM, Bamford, who recently took a promotion opportunity after leading the Portland Pythons with Tomlinson last season. The two were no strangers to one another and Bamford was already aware of Tomlinson's reclusive nature yet unphased in his decision to select the hybrid Linebacker in the draft. Tomlinson seemed surprise to find out how much the Outlaws had given up in a trade to move up and get Tomlinson in the top of the 3rd round after the Rookie newcomer slid back through the first and second rounds.
"That's why I decided to take off and shut out all of the noise surrounding the ISFL Draft after our title victory in the DSFL season." Tomlinson described, "We went on a run there and my stock was rising pretty high. The prop bet that had me getting 1 TFL or more which I failed to do, so even though we won the game I was hearing a lot of negativity for not getting that TFL. Anyway, the draft noise was getting a bit too much for me so I hit the road for a fishing trip and was excited to hear the news when I returned. Reuniting with Bam is great, but I told him myself I thought he was crazy for trading away the draft capital they did in order to move up and get me. I'm happy to be on a solid team with leadership I already know, I'll be excited to get to work.
When asked about when he thought he would get the call up to play for the Arizona Outlaws, Tomlinson had this to say; "I met with the team GMs and my agent earlier and signed my first ISFL contract. From what I understand I'll probably play another year down in the DSFL before coming up to play in the ISFL for the Outlaws after this upcoming season." This sort of response is mostly expected yet with the way teams move players and even cities these days, anything could be possible in terms of timelines for Tomlinson's ISFL debut. From what we've gathered he's mostly focused on defending the Portland Python's title in the DSFL next season.
Arizona finished 9-7 in season 49, a winning record and good for 3rd place in their division. Tomlinson is happy to join a team that already has a history of winning games, and following Bamford there should make for a smooth transition. Assuming Tomlinson would stay at the LB position for Arizona, he's be joining a current linebacker crew led by Iman Outlaw, Thomas Sutha, and Grzegorz Winnicki; all 3 of which had 100+ tackles last season individually and over 350+ combined total. It's not clear if any of the aging players on the Outlaw team would retire to make space for Tomlinson, but again that kind of conversation is probably a few seasons away. If the Outlaws were to have Tomlinson play on the D-line, he'd be joining a large group lead by Sewage Joe Fantringham, Ryan McBean, and Grzegorz Winnicki; a trio that racked up about a dozen sacks and 120+ tackles last season combined. All 3 are absolute units on the defensive line and look to be the guys that will be clogging the middle in Arizona for the foreseeable future.
Arizona's other leaders include Quarterback, Puddles O'Duck, a rookie last year who is poised to lead the Arizona Outlaws for years to come. Other offensive skill players include wide receivers Benji Aguilera and Jordan Bamford; both who are in their primes and coming off high-end production seasons. Mannering-Phipps is the Outlaw's leading man in the run-game coming off a season with 1,191 rushing yards and 9 rushing TDs. The offense has a lot of potential and it will be exciting to watch as this group develops alongside Tomlinson and the defense in the near future.
Looking at the upcoming DSFL Season 50, the Pythons will be looking to defend their title while returning plenty of their stars from last season. Quarterback Pasta Rockman will be back with a ton more experience and confidence following last season's title run. The three headed monster in the backfield will be returning 2 of its members from last season; Wilder and Hilnka will both be back and maxed out for the title defense. Star Safety Meguru Bachira will be back as well, leading the Python's defensive backs in season 50. The Pythons added a few new rookies as well, in DE Mikey Knucklez, LB Bando, and another running back in De La Serna. It will be difficult to plug some of the holes left by players departing for the ISFL, however the Pythons are excited for the upcoming season and the opportunity to win back to back DSFL titles. Realistically the team understands that would be a long shot, however if they can go on a run like they did last season they all know that anything is indeed possible.
It should be exciting to follow both my teams in the upcoming Season 50. Obviously my player is still on the DSFL Portland Pythons, but now that I have been drafted by an ISFL team that gives me a little more incentive to follow them and their upcoming campaign. I think we were pretty lucky to win a title last season in Portland, so I am not going to be tricked into thinking it will be that easy again this season. I hope I play well and that our team at least has a winning record. Regardless, best of luck to all the teams in Season 50. Go Pythons! Go Outlaws!!!
