Dear NSFL fans, players, teams, executives, sponsers, affiliates, and future partners,
The hallway that leads to my office has our three Ultimus Cups in glass cases. I saw them before I saw my office, actually. Imagine coming to work every day and staring at the embodiment of the highest success an organization can have, and not being able to enjoy it. Those cups represent so much great and terrible history. They represent the culmination of tremendous efforts by so many great players and simultaneously they represent the dark stains of what's been done. Every single day I will see those trophies and remember the past.
It IS the past. Today is the first day of the new Arizona Outlaws. When I stepped out onto the podium to be announced as GM, that was the moment the franchise changed form the ground up. Our philosophy changes. Our ideals change. By the end of my first day I demonstrated that change when I traded away Jayce Tuck. Arguably the greatest success of this team. Unarguably it's greatest failure. I made sure the rest of my team knew that the world was different and now I hope you do too. I will say it plainly with no vague corporate speak. I would rather lose within the rules than win outside of them.
The truth is, I know that just making that statement isn't enough. This organization has no trust left. We're going to have to earn it back on step at a time. That's why we're taking some measures to start down that path.
We're going to earn it with every fan who buys a ticket. Effective immediately, all tickets are reduced in price for every home game for the next 5 seasons. Upper deck seats will drop by 20%. Middle sections will drop by 15%. Lower sections will drop by 10%. Executive boxes...you can afford it. All stadium owned vendors will be reducing prices as well. All non stadium owned vendors will see a reduction in rent for the next 5 seasons.
We're going to have to earn it with every free agent in the league. Starting now, any free agent or draftee who signs with the Outlaws for the next 5 seasons will have their relocation paid for in full by us.
We have to earn it with our sponsors. I sent e-mails today to all of our major and minor sponsors letting them know we were dropping our rates by 10%.
It's not reinventing the wheel, I know. However, these changes are just the start. We're going to show you what we can be. I'm looking for new staff, including a Co-GM. I will be accepting any and all qualified applications. Former players, media, staff from other teams, go for it. I intend to lead this team to it's rightful place as a respected unquestioned champion. To do that, I will be working tirelessly to actually make those unquestioned and respected portions become reality. That day is some way away but I intend to work towards it until we get there.
Now we move on. We move forward. This team has crashed to Earth form the lofty heights it once knew. But we will not stay there. Starting now we move forward. Free agency is here and we intend to compete vigorously for available talent who best fits our team and our new philosophies. The draft will come soon and we've begun preparation for the newest members of the NSFL to walk into a situation unlike those who came before. Contracts will roll on and some will decide that they don't want to stay for this. That's okay. Some of the names and faces will change. that's the nature of the business side of this game we love. That's all part of running an NSFL franchise. But the kinds of things that happened before won't be. Not anymore. That I promise.
