HELLO FROM CENTRAL TEXAS.
I just wanted to say hi and jot down a few thoughts on the eve of the biggest game in our sport. I know what kind of week this is for the players, teams, fans, and league. I did get the pleasure of being a 3 time Ultimus Champion (low key flex). As the week turns form game to thoughts of next season I wanted to give everyone a few thoughts, as I've been pretty quiet this season getting my staff together, handling all sorts of details with the stadium, checking in with my players in the DSFL, and sending Carlito random late night pictures of cats. It's driving him insane.
Firstly, I'm pretty sure by now everyone has gotten a look at the Copperheads' final official logo. We're damn excited for it and we hope you are too. Expect to see it more now that we're going to be a little more official. We'd love to hear your feedback, too.
Secondly, I'm really pumped for our guys down in DSFL who've been taking that extra year to really step up their craft. A lot of the guys have been lighting it up and I can't wait to get them going and scheming for them.
Thirdly, I've had a lot of opportunity to get a look at the upcoming DSFL players as well. I've gotten to talk with a few people which has been great, and let's not forget that the Copperheads have the #2, 6, and 12 picks! It's gonna be exciting to get some of those guys and bring them in.
Quatro! The expansion draft is upcoming and for those of you who aren't being protected by your teams, remember that it's because they don't love you. Once I get ahold of those precious lists, expect to hear form me. I'd like to talk about what you want before I just snatch you out of thin air and uproot your entire career and possibly your fmaily. Though I will say that one team has contacted me and more or less begged me to take a player off their hands already.
Fifth (of the good stuff hopefully). FREE AGENTS! Oh man there's gonna be some interesting discussions we have coming up. I plan to have some great conversations with you folks. There's even a few on the list who I know personally. We're going to have a lot of room for growth and for those of you who want a shot to prove you're better than the world has claimed you are.
Sixth. My good buddy and Assistant GM Carlito Crush is officially retired and as I write this, is on a private plan in the air somewhere over the southwest. He's been getting pictures and videos of the construction (they're putting the seating in now) so he'll finally get to see it in person. Also I did send him a video of me watching his final touchdown catch on our big screen high above the field.
Guys, gals, and esteemed individuals of other orientations.....the Copperheads are about to be open for business and this ride is gonna get wild. I'm more excited than I can express and I frankly need to calm the hell down because my office manager keeps popping her head in to make sure I'm okay. I'M ALL HOPPED UP ON MOUNTAIN DEW!
Before I go, though, I want to take a moment and be serious. Being in this position and talking to so many players, coaches, administrators, officials, yada yada, has given me a lot more insight to this league and its business than I ever had before as a player. I just want to talk to the players and remind you that I've been where you are. I've felt underused, I've felt like I wasn't communicated with. I know those feelings. I felt terrified when I got diagnosed and found out I'd lost 2 inches of height. I get that. It happens and crazy body changes are so much a part of our sport. And it's never easy or smooth. I've been there. Where I've never been is in a situation where I felt like a player was mistreated. Where I felt like a player was no longer human and was just lines on a spreadsheet. Never had to feel that. And I can goddamn guarantee you ONE thing as your future GM. You'll NEVER fucking feel that here. You'll never be treated wrongly just because it gives me me some sort of advantage. Every decision I make you'll be able to ask me why and you'll know why. And if you don't feel it's in your best interests, I'm going to damn well try to do something about that. And I don't mean I'm going to fake it. I'm not going to PRETEND and act as if I'm trying to help while blatantly using you to my and only my advantage. If you feel like you need to go, I'm gonna do my best to get you where you need to be., If you feel underloved, I'm gonna work with you. In Austin you will ALWAYS be a human being first. I'm never going to lie to you. I'm not going to lie to the team. Anyone who does that is a useless pace of shit and will never have a job within this organization if I'm breathing and capable of stopping it. Hopefully...that kind of behavior never even feels like it's happening but if it ever does..if any player ever feels that way, I'll do my absolute damndest to do right by you. That's the way this team will be run. And that is all I'm gonna say on the topic.
All that said....enjoy the Ultimus. Get excited. NSFL is at it's pinnacle right now and the league is getting more interesting by the second. Here come the Copperheads!
