Ladies and gentleman, welcome again to ESPNSFL. My name is Zerin Nandrews and this is episode number 8 of our “Thoroughfare to Glory” (TTG) saga, bringing you the life of Season 18 QB prospect, the “Portuguese Phenom”, Jay “Football” Cue.
Home field advantage. After a hard-fought game in Portland, the Pythons won the game 24-17, settling the debate on who was going to get the #1 DSFL seed for the playoffs and the advantage of playing at home. Our star sits now at 11 – 2, making the last regular season game versus the Palm Beach Solar Bears a pressure free one. But will the Pythons play this game with their mind already on the first playoff game? Besides, this was one of the worst games in Jays short career, if not the worst. Did it leave a chip on his shoulder and he wants to correct that against Palm Beach?
We went to see Jay and see what his thoughts are.
Dirk – Hey Jay, nice to see you again, and congratulations on the #1 seed.
Jay – Thank you Dirk. It is very nice to get our first objective for the season completed.
Dirk – You are obviously happy about the result, but it really was not your day, was it?
Jay – Yeah, it has to be said, it really was not an adequate performance by myself. I honestly expected better, especially with so much on the line. Fortunately, our team, like I mentioned before, exceeds herself in these situations. If one of the players has a bad day, the others rally up and carry him and the team. I hope I can do the same for any of team if it is needed.
Dirk – What about the last regular season game against Palm Beach? Will you be rested, considering that the Pythons are already on the playoffs?
Jay – We thought about it, but I am still gunning for Armstrong’s Passing TDs record. I need 2 to tie, 3 to beat him, so I am going guns blazing, doing everything I can to get some passing TDs. Besides, we have what we call the “Victory Culture”™. We believe that a great run of wins, brings more wins. So, we are sitting on 6 wins in a row and we want to finish the season at 9.
Dirk – Coming back to the last game, it is pretty obvious that the Pythons have a big rivalry with the Luchadores, right?
Jay – We do, but I honestly think they think more about us, than us about them. After the Week 7 game a lot was said, that our season was a fluke, that they were the rightful number 1 team, some trash talks between players occurred, but we kept our focus only on the games ahead instead of thinking about who was the best team or not. And, here we are, Week 13 and we clinched the # 1 seed, and if we play them again, it will be again in front of our fans. That is what counts for us. If they want to bring more to the table than that, it is their choice, but it has gone wrong for them before. But, kudos to Thudd, he promised me some sneakers from Tijuana and he delivered.
Dirk – And about the draft, the day is approaching fast. Any new contacts?
Jay – I am completely focused on the games in hand. Difficult game vs Palm Beach and then what I hope will be 2 playoff games and a trophy. Only after that I will direct my mind to the draft. But like I told you last week, I am not counting on going on the first, maybe even the second round. I got an invite to the Green Room already, for which I thanked the Commish, but we will see if I feel like going. My parents and teammates are telling me to go, and I might, to support the Pyhtons getting drafted. Even if I do, I intend to download a bunch of games and films to my phone, as I am going to be there for a while with the cameras on my face. So, send me suggestions via twitter.
Dirk – Well, that is all for today Jay, good luck next Thursday and we will talk again before the playoffs start.
Jay – Thanks Dirk. Can you please sign a couple autographs? Thudd and Wozniak asked me to, I guess they do not have the tv connections.
And this is all the time we have for today, stay tuned for more interviews and information on our TTG. This was Zerin Nandrews, for ESPNSFL at the Portland Pythons training facility, goodbye, see you next time.
