A.J. Warren was done with football. The defensive end had graduated from the University of Virginia with a Major in Communications and a Minor in Film Study. He was heading back to California to get into the movie industry. The Warren family were all big players in Hollywood. His father is a famous director, his mother was a scream queen in the 90s, and both of his brothers are action stars.
“It just seemed like I was destined to do the same. And I would be great at it. The money is good. My family has been in the spotlight since I can remember. It only seemed natural.”
A.J.’s destiny seemed to be set, but he had another thing he enjoyed doing. Football. He was a walk-on at Virginia and while he didn’t set the world on fire, he punched above his weight on occasion. But it wasn’t enough to get noticed. A.J.’s dorm was packed up and he was heading to the airport when he saw a flyer for the NSFL. At first he brushed it off but then he thought, “Maybe.”
A.J. called his family and said he wasn’t coming home straight away. “Movies aren’t going anywhere. But football? That’s a small window. I have to give it a shot.” So he went back to the gym to start getting in shape and has officially declared himself eligible. He will take part in the next DSFL draft, whenever that may be.
“It’s pretty overwhelming right now. There are so many guys going out this season. The class will be huge, maybe one of the biggest ever. Lots of people trying to prove themselves and get noticed. But there will be plenty of guys flying under the radar too. I don’t envy the teams picking this season. They have their work cut out for them. We have the easy job. Just show up and work.”
