Luchadores S22 Roster NSFL Draft Preview and Season 21 Recap Through 10 Weeks
This is my first season in the National Simulation Football League but I am somewhat familiar with evaluating talent in a sports sim league. I started as a scout and eventually made it to being a co gm of one of the top teams in the Professional Baseball Experience. I hope to use some of that knowledge here in evaluating my fellow season 22 Tijuana Luchadores for the upcoming draft. I will admit that I do not know the NSFL teams well enough as a lot of you guys but will do my best.
In this media piece I am going to go over all the season 22 players on the Tijuana Luchadores in order of when they were drafted in the season 21 DSFL draft and give my thoughts on what round I think they will be going in the upcoming season 22 draft. I have excluded players that have not updated in 3 weeks as I deem those users inactive.
After that I have included a week by week breakdown of this whole season for the Luchadores. I was planning on waiting till the end of the season to publish it but wanted to take advantage of the 1.5x media week. I have really enjoyed my time so far in the league and with my team. I want to give a big shout out to @Jay_Doctor and @FleshBagSoup for drafting me and having one of the funnest locker rooms I have been in.
Luchadores Season 22 Roster Draft Outlooks
4 Tijuana Ben Slothlisberger QB 184 TPE
Slothlisberger is one of the top QBs in this upcoming draft and has also performed very well this season splitting time at the QB spot in Tijuana. I like many others think he will go to NOLA in this upcoming draft and be the new face of their offense.
28 Tijuana Andrew Witten CB 180 TPE
Another stud on the defensive end and high earning user Witten looks to be a promising talent in the upcoming draft. He should be one of the top corners taken in the draft and I see him going in the first few rounds.
29 Tijuana Ozmataz Buckshanks CB 109 TPE
Although Buckshanks has made some big plays for the Luchadores this season his TPE at the moment doesn’t look good for his draft outlook. He might slip to later rounds as there are a lot of corners ahead of him on draft boards. Could go to any of the NSFL teams at that point.
36 Tijuana Thomas Passmann WR 186 TPE
Passman is a high earning wide receiver in this upcoming draft and has performed well in the run heavy DSFL this season. He leads the Luchadores in receiving yards and is second in the league as of the time this article was written. I see him going in the first or second round to a team in need of a spark.
45 Tijuana Devaunte Sackpieder LB 97 TPE
Devaunte has had a respectable season for the Luchadores in season 21 but his draft outlook has him as a mid tier linebacker. Unless we see a big uptick in TPE, Sackpieder will most likely be available in the middle of the draft.
48 Tijuana George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher LB 147 TPE
Corpsegrinder has put together an impressive rookie year with the Luchadores in season 21 and is second in the team in tackles. He should be one of the top 10 players taken at his position and look for him to be taken in the 2nd or 3rd round.
60 Tijuana Calvin Golladay OL 184 TPE
Golladay is another one of the amazing offensive linemen to come from Tijuana and has been dominating defenses this season. His high earning and stellar play will have him as one of the first offensive linemen taken in the upcoming draft.
68 Tijuana Friedrich Vequain WR 80 TPE
Vequain has had a few bright moments in the passing game this season but at only 80 TPE it is hard to see him going early in the upcoming draft. His lack of earning will have his draft stock suffer and most likely taken in the later rounds.
84 Tijuana Sylvester Berlin OL 86 TPE
With only 2 updates since joining the NSFL Berlin looks to be a borderline active at best player. This will hurt him come draft time and will have him slip to the later rounds.
92 Tijuana Magnus Valdyr S 127 TPE
Although Valdyr will always be remembered for scoring two pick 6s in one game in the DSFL his TPE may have him slip come draft time. Look for him to be one of the top 15 DBs taken in the draft.
96 Tijuana Richard Gilbert RB 172 TPE
Gilbert is one of the top offensive threats for the Luchadores in season 21 and also has the high earning to back up his stats. He will be one of the top 5 running backs taken in the draft and look for him to go in the 1st to 3rd round depending on team needs.
100 Tijuana LiterallyJust A. Hexagon S 145 TPE
At the other safety spot in Tijuana is Hexagon. This guy has been all over the field for the Luchadores and is one of the top safeties in the draft. Look for him to be one of the top 10 DBs taken.
116 Tijuana Jacob Small K 94 TPE
The Tijuana kicker has had his ups and downs this season but looks to be a solid leg for a future NSFL team. Although his earning could be higher any active kicker is sought after. Look for him to go in the later rounds.
180 Tijuana Jim Waters QB 190 TPE
The other quarterback who has been splitting time with Slothlisberger in Tijuana has the earning potential to be one of the top players at his position. Taken 180th overall in the DSFL draft Waters has silenced all the doubters and will be one of the top quarterbacks taken in the upcoming draft.
244 Tijuana Julio Tirtawidjaja RB 137 TPE
Another diamond in the rough for the Luchadores Tirtawidjaja has proven to be a steady producer and earner in this league. He will always remember in the Tijuana locker room for mysteriously throwing a touchdown pass even though he was not listed on the passing box score. Look for him to go in the middle rounds in the upcoming draft.
260 Tijuana Nat Wright LB 90 TPE
Wright is the one of the middle level talents on the Tijuana defense this season. He has made the best of the time he has seen on the field but his lack of earning puts him at a disadvantage come draft time. Look for him to go in the later rounds.
Season 21 Weekly Recaps Through 10 Weeks
Week 1
@ Minnesota Grey Ducks
L 16-19
Record after week: 0-1
The Tijuana Luchadores started their season with a heartbreaking loss on the road against the Grey Ducks. The Luchadores took an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a field goal from Jacob Small but that would end up being their only lead of the game. This game featured both defenses bending but not breaking with each giving up over 350 yards but only 1 touchdown each. This was a kicking showcase with 3 field goals from Tijuana’s Jacob Small and 4 field goals from Minnesota’s Cashrinski Bloodenheimer. Bloodenheimer ultimately had the last laugh hitting a game winning 26 yard field goal with 7 seconds left in the 4th quarter.
Standout Offensive Lucha: Wide Receiver Thomas Passman
In his first game ever for the Luchadores Passman had a great performance. Thomas hauled in 5 catches for 92 yards and looked to be a early target for both Tijuana Quarterbacks.
Standout Defensive Lucha: Linebacker Devaunte Sackpieder
Devaunte was all over the field on defense in this game and made key plays for the Luchadores all game. He ended up with 4 tackles and 1 sack and 1 interception.
Week 2
vs London Royals
W 40-7
Record after week: 1-1
After their tough loss in week 1 the Luchadores responded with a blow out win at home against the Royals. This matchup looked to be a low scoring game in the first half with the scoring being 9-7 in favor of Tijuana. The Luchadores exploded in the second half scoring 31 unanswered points. Jordan McCann III provided the spark the Luchadores needed when he returned the 2nd half kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. Overall Tijuana looked like a top DSFL team.
Standout Offensive Lucha: Running Back Ed Barker
Barker is the veteran leader in the backfield for the Luchadores and he looked like it in the second half. He ended up with 65 yards on 16 carries and 2 touchdowns.
Standout Defensive Lucha: Linebacker Ugarth The Dissector
Ugarth showed his versatility on defense during this dominating performance. He was all over the London passing game and ended up with 8 tackles, 2 pass deflections and 1 interception.
Week 3
vs Dallas Birddogs
W 29-16
Result after week: 2-1
In their third game of season 21 the Tijuana Luchadores took down the Dallas Birddogs thanks to a great second half performance. This game was all tied at 13-13 at half time but Tijuana went on to out scoring Dallas 16-3 in the second half. The Luchadores offense was a balanced attack in this game with 200 passing yards and 212 rushing yards. Their pass defense was also stellar allowing only 70 yards passing from the Birddogs.
Standout Offensive Lucha: Running Back Ed Barker
The stud running back Barker had another great game and kept the Dallas defenders guessing all game. He ended up with 113 yards on 24 carries and 1 touchdown.
Standout Defensive Lucha: Linebacker Ugarth The Dissector
Ugarth had another stellar performance in this game. He intimidated the Dallas offense all game long and end with 12 tackles, 2 sacks and a safety.
Week 4
@ Portland Pythons
L 17-19
Record after week: 2-2
The Luchadores has another tough loss on the road in Portland in week 4. After climbing back from down 13 points to take the lead 14-13 they were unable to close it out. Portland’s Tatsu Nakamura had a key 70 yard touchdown run to give the Pythons the lead for good. Tijuana opted to go for a 42 yard field goal instead of going for the first down with 4 mins left in the game. This proved to be a pivotal moment as they never got into scoring position again.
Standout Offensive Lucha: Quarterback Jim Waters
Waters had a great performance with his limited snaps. He had a 113.2 passer rating and went 9/12 for 60 yards and 1 touchdown. He and Slothlisberger both seems to be bright QB prospects.
Standout Defensive Lucha: Cornerback Ozamataz Buckshank
Ozamataz had one of the best performances of his young career in this game. He ended up with 2 pass deflections, 1 interception and 1 tackle.
Week 5
vs Norfolk Seawolves
W 28-17
Record after week: 3-2
The Luchadores came out with another impressive win at home in week 5 over the Norfolk Seawolves. Starting slow seems to be an early trend with this Tijuana team as they once again found themselves down early trailing 0-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Luchadores responded on both ends of the ball outscoring the Seawolfs 28-7 in the last 3 quarters. Penalties ended up being the biggest difference in team stats as Norfolk had 6 penalties for 47 yards compared to 2 for 10 yards for the Luchadores.
Standout Offensive Lucha: Quarterback Ben Slothlisberger
Slothlisberger is splitting his time with Waters so it might be tough to determine his full impact but Ben's talents were on display this week. He threw 11 passes in 19 attempts or 119 yards and 1 TD with a passer rating of 94.
Standout Defensive Lucha: Lineback George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher
Fisher has been a man on a mission since joining this defensive focused Tijuana team this season. He was all over the field this week where he racked up 11 tackles, 1 sack and 1 pass deflection
Week 6
@ Kansas City Coyotes
L 13-33
Record after week: 3-3
This young Tijuana team seems to be an up and down team for season 21 with a poor outing in Kansas City against the Coyotes. After starting out hot and taking a 13-0 lead the Luchadores fell apart allowing 33 unanswered points. This game was one of the low points of the season for this team as nothing seems to be going well. The Coyotes were able to lean on their running game all game and Tijuana could do little about it. The Luchadores defense allowed 415 yards of total offense including 256 on the ground.
Standout Offensive Lucha: Running Back Richard Gilbert
Gilbert was one of the few bright spots for the Luchadores offensive in this game. Even though the passing game was struggling Gilbert was able to rush for 103 yards and 1 touchdown.
Standout Defensive Lucha: Ugarth The Dissector
Just like Gilbert was one of the only offensive players to be effective in this game, Ugarth was one of the few to have an impact on defense. He ended up with 11 tackles and 1 pass deflection.
Week 7
@ Myrtle Beach Buccaneers
W 28-16
Record after week: 4-3
Tijuana bounced back in this game to earn a victory and keep up their trend of being an up and down team in season 21. This was one of the most bizarre games of the season for the Luchadores as it not only saw a Tijuana defensive back return two interceptions back for touchdowns but also somehow backup running back Jim Tirtawidjaja threw a touchdown pass. Even the team stats were strange in this one as Tijuana had 96 less total yards and 54 more penalty yards than Myrtle Beach and yet never trailed.
Standout Offensive Lucha: Running Back Jim Tirtawidjaja
The only reason Tirtawdjaja was selected was because he must be some type of Draft Day Sports magician because he somehow threw a 3 yard touchdown without showing up in the passing stat line.
Standout Defensive Lucha: Safety Magnus Valdydr
Magnus did something that had only happened 5 times prior to this game and that was to return two interceptions for touchdowns in the same game. He also ended up with 3 tackles and will forever be remembered in DSFL history.
Week 8
vs Minnesota Grey Ducks
W 20-18
Record after week: 5-3
The Luchadores had another great showing in week 8 at home against the Grey Ducks coming back from down 13 points to eventually win 20-18. The Tijuana defense bent but didn't break all game allowing 381 yards but only 1 touchdown. They also won the turnover battle 3-1 which was a big part of winning this game. After losing the lead in the 4th quarter due to a safety and field goal the Tijuana offense got the ball with a little over 5 minutes left in the game. They were able to get in range for a 39 yard field goal and Luchadores kicker Jacob Small nailed the game winning kick with 25 seconds left.
Standout Offensive Lucha: Kicker Jacob Small
Small gets the honors this week for Lucha standout due to his clutch game winning kick. He ended up going 2 for 2 from 39 yards and 46 yards.
Standout Defensive Lucha: Safety Literally A. Hexagon
Hexagon once again had a great game from his safety position this week. His big play came in the 3rd quarter when he took an interception all the way to the house for a touchdown. He ended the game with 7 tackles, 1 interception and 1 pass deflection.
Week 9
@ London Royals
L 21-24
Record after week: 5-4
The Tijuana Luchadores had a tough loss this week against the London Royals. After an impressive 1st half the Luchadores failed to get anything done in the 2nd half against the Royals. Tijuana led the game 21-7 at half time but didn't see the endzone for the rest of the game after that. The London running game took control in this game as running backs Skyline and Batista combined for 241 yards and 1 touchdown. Tijuana got in their own way during this game as they had 9 penalties for 60 yards.
Standout Offensive Lucha: Running Back Richard Gilbert
Gilbert had an amazing first half in this game where he scored 3 touchdowns. He ended the game with 78 yards on 18 carries and 3 touchdowns.
Standout Defensive Lucha: Linebacker Ugarth The Dissector
Ugarth once again had a great game for the Luchadores this week. He was all over the field and left his imprint on this game. He ended up with 14 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, and 1 sack.
Week 10
@ Dallas Birddogs
L 24-35
Record after week: 5-5
The Tijuana Luchadores had a poor outing in back to back weeks in this game against the Dallas Birddogs losing 24-35. Although this game looked close early on the Dallas Birddogs running game ended up taking control in the 2nd half and ended the game with 253 yards. Dallas running back Kichwa Jones had 108 yards on only 15 carries and a touchdown and the Tijuana Luchadores could do nothing to stop Dallas this week.
Standout Offensive Lucha: Running Back Richard Gilbert
Gilbert is putting together an impressive year for the Tijuana Luchadores and had another great game this week. He ended up with 66 yards on 14 carries and 2 touchdowns.
Standout Defensive Lucha: Safety LiterallyJust A. Hexagon
This 6 sided friend of the Luchadores was a terror on defense in this game. He was flying around the field all night and ended up with 8 tackles, 1 pass deflection and 1 interception.
