C.A. Chess stoically drowns out the nay-sayers and awaits his chance to prove the critics wrong[/div]
At the start of season one of the National Sim Football League C.A. Chess wasn’t in a training camp or signing a lucrative contract, he was siting on the sidelines nursing a terrible knee accident that cost him to lose his senior year at the University of Michigan. But that was to be expected, what wasn’t on the agenda however was being completely snubbed by the Prospects League of the NSFL. “Honestly that did hurt quite a bit, it was more confusion than anything. I just wanted a chance to prove myself -- but I know my time to do just that is coming real soon.”
A chance to prove himself is clearly needed as most recent mock drafts don’t even list the once highly sought after prospect who has seen his prospects decimated due to injury. Another major concern that teams have is that it isn’t immediately clear how much of a need there will be for a Wide Receiver that functions primarily as a red zone threat, a concern that Chess waves away despite the statistical analysis report done by timeconsumer showing that the TPE cap for a Red Zone Threat is the lowest of the WR archetype. “Honestly,” said the receiver, “if I need to eventually switch what kind of player I am to better fit my role on the team that’s totally fine. But also, this is a brand new league and I trust myself and my agents at 4D Consulting Firm to steer me and my career in the right direction.”
But through all of this noise and distraction Chess continues to find an escape in the training room and, additionally, speaking with teams where there exists a mutual interest. “Certainly, I as well as my agents, have been speaking with a few teams. I don’t think it would be in my best interest to disclose which ones but there are two teams in particular that have expressed that they want to pick me and that I have a great deal of respect for and would love to play on.”
The big question you’re probably asking yourself is: “Where is Chess expected to be drafted?” The truth of the matter is that the: pundits, fans, prospects and even the league executives have no idea what exactly is going to happen when the NSFL holds their first prospect draft to kick off Season 2. However, if you look at the latest mock drafts, it’s truly impossible to tell. “I know that my injury set me back quite a bit, I know I’m getting a later start than a lot of these guys, but I see myself as a first or second round pick -- I honestly do.” C.A. Chess has always been known for that stunning bravado, but even his agents at the 4D Consulting Firm admit that it’s far more likely that Chess finds himself being drafted in the 3rd-5th round range. Wide receiver is a somewhat populated position in the NSFL but there also exists the possibility that a team may add Chess as a 3rd option at Wide receiver and allow him to fully recover while also learning the ropes of professional football. Chess has said repeatedly he’s open to the idea, as it would also allow him to focus on doing what he does best: getting the ball in the end zone. As a third option in the red zone it’s highly likely that C.A. would be getting a number of mismatches from opposing defenses, allowing him to use his height and hands to his advantage on slant or fade routes into pay dirt. The ultimate goal for Chess is still to become a starter by the end of the season, but because of the injury and late start to the combine process Chess now faces the reality that everything he wants to achieve in the NSFL will be given and not earned.
