Early Life
Kayleb was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Every Sunday, Kayleb's dad put him in front of the TV to watch weekly football. When Kayleb reached around the age of 6, he started to get more invested in the sport of football and asked his parents if he could be in the local pee-wee football league. His dad loved the idea but his mom was hesitant at first. Eventually, they enrolled Kayleb into the pee-wee league where he would play until he was about 12 years old, moving up in divisions as he grew older and heavier.
Middle School
When Kayleb finished elementary school, his parents decided that they needed a change of scenery and moved down to big Texas. Moving down there was a great idea for him since some of the best football players are produced in the south. He decided to skip the last year of which he was eligible to still play Pee-Wee football (6-12 yo). The upcoming summer Kayleb's dad hired a football trainer to help Kayleb work on his game. His name was Tom Bryant. Even though Kayleb was only 13, Tom made sure that he got the absolute best out of Kayleb, you could tell he saw something that no one else did. Kayleb is now 13 entering the 7th grade. Tryouts for the 7th-grade football team was soon and he was not gonna miss it, He showed up at practice with his cleats and his gloves, ready for whatever is coming to him. He went into practice trying out for wide receiver. Kayleb went through the first few drills with ease and continued that energy for the rest of tryouts. The next morning on the school's award case, his name was on the list of people who made the team and he was joyful. Kayleb was the best receiver on the team and arguably the best player, he quickly became a fan favorite within his school. Kayleb did so well on the field in 7th grade that he did not even have to try out for the 8th-grade team. Although the team made the playoffs in both his 7th and 8th-grade year, they fell short of the championship both times. After losing in the championship game in 8th grade, Kayleb was looking on to high school
High School
Kayleb Dotson is getting older and working harder than ever to reach his ultimate goal. He is now focusing on football more than ever. In freshman team tryouts for The Jefferson High bears he looked like one of the best players on the field, but he noticed that there was an abundance of receivers trying out and some were as good if not better than him. The next morning, Kayleb was doing his work in class when suddenly he was called to the coaches' office. Coach Peterson (Head Coach) told Kayleb that he loved what he saw from him yesterday afternoon at tryouts. he says he is good friends with Kayleb's 7th and 8th-grade coach, and that he says good things about him. Coach Peterson told Kayleb that even though he is a freshman, he wants him to play for JV! Kayleb is surprised at the offer but immediately accepts it. Coach Peterson also says that they have loads of talent at Wide Receiver this year and he thinks that Kayleb should switch to DB. Kayleb is surprised at what coach just said as he has been playing receiver since Pee-Wee. But in the end, Kayleb knows that he just wants his team to win so he tells Coach Peterson that he would be delighted to switch positions. Playing CB and S was definitely a struggle for him, so for the first 5 games, Kayleb didn't see the field that much. But in practice, it seemed like Kayleb turned into a whole different person, and Coach Peterson had noticed this. Coach Peterson decided to start Kayleb at safety for game 6 of the season and he had two interceptions, Coach Peterson was impressed and decided to let this ride out for the rest of the season. The Jefferson Bears missed the playoffs by one game that season. Kayleb was disappointing for a moment, then immediately began training for the next season. In his Sophomore and Junior season, Kayleb's play improved vastly, he could make plays on the ball and stop the run with ease. Even though they came up short in his sophomore season, In his junior season The Jefferson Bears finished at a record of 13-1 and won the state championship. In his senior season Kayleb posted a stat line of 35 tackles, 5 interceptions and a fumble recovery, he was named as one of the top safeties in the country. The Jefferson Bears had a perfect season, with Kayleb winning his second state title. College scouts paid close attention to Kayleb during the season and now they are starting to visit him.
College and Pre Draft
Kayleb was named a 4-star recruit and had offers from LSU, TCU, Arkansas and Louisiana Tech. The choice was hard for him as LSU is one of the best programs in the country but he could go to TCU and stay close to his family. He ultimately chose LSU as he wanted to be apart of DBU. He was a red-shirt for his first season. In 2 seasons starting at LSU (sophomore and junior), Kayleb posted a stat line of 80 tackles and 8 interceptions. Shortly after his junior season, Kayleb announced that he will declare for the DSFL Draft. He had to decide who he wanted to be his agent, so he called up an old friend name Tom Bryant who has switched into the agency business. Kayleb has been interviewed by 5 teams so far and has visited two other teams facilities. His favored landing spots right now are Minnesota as he would love to go back to his home state, Dallas as he could be close to his family again and Tijuana which seemed to show the most interest in him in his interview. Even though these landing spots are favored, Kayleb has loved every team that has interviewed him so far, some have even asked him to switch positions.
