Twas the night before Draft day,
Nervous rookies abound,
All worriedly waiting,
New homes to be found.
Whether London or Dallas,
Or Norfolk for some,
Each player has high hopes,
Or be labeled a bum.
There are Coyotes and Birddogs
Is it Portland for you?
Wishing hard for the first round,
Or at worst number two.
Some rookies have favorites,
Some others do not,
But all just want one thing,
To watch our small dot.
For all of us rookies,
We just want to know,
Where is it, where is it,
Our players will go?
The excitement is rising,
We simply can’t wait,
I hope that the Draft,
Starts exactly at eight.
But GMs among us,
They already know,
The rooks’ destinations,
But cards they won’t show.
“No leaks” they all say,
“No leaks!” they all cry,
If I don’t find out,
I simply may die.
Am I headed for sunshine?
Do I need a big coat?
I simply want one thing,
To end up the GOAT.
Will I be traded?
Or drafted at all?
I shudder to think,
If my draft stock should fall.
There are only eight,
To go in round one,
But that’s just the start,
Lots more til we’re done.
But regardless of when,
Regardless of where,
Each rookie should smile,
And be happy they’re there.
Because once we are finished,
The games will begin,
And we’ll finally see,
How many games we will win.
So savor this moment,
It happens one time,
This is the start,
Of your player’s long climb.
Good luck to all the rookies tomorrow!
