Hello faithful viewers of the Despacito Jr. Network! Get your draft seatbelts strapped in, as today we have a draft special for you all. As one of two draft analyses we plan on doing this media cycle, we will be analyzing a Mock Draft made by reputable user Speculadora, who has many a time claimed to be quite proficient when it comes to providing accurate mock drafts that can earn his teammates good TPE. Today, we will be seeing if "Spec" as he is known has proven himself worthy of the title of "expert", or if he is simply just another fraud. Now, you may be thinking, "for a news piece covering the draft, this seems rather like a targeted attack?"
You would be absolutely right. Now, let's get into it.
1. (Berlin Fire Salamanders) BamBam McMullet (Correct)
With the first pick of the draft, the Fire Salamanders selected Linebacker BamBam McMullet. This one was a rather easy pick for Spec to call, as most mock drafts had this one down as happening. We'll give it until a bit later in the draft before we start really evaluating the merit of his predictions.
McMullet had a very solid rookie season for the Tijuana Luchadores in the DSFL, finishing 12th in the league in tackles with 97 tackles. He was also eighth among all linebackers in sacks with 4, and add in a couple interceptions to that as well and it makes for overall not a bad debut season by any stretch. Seen as having a very high ceiling, this is a good pick for Berlin, but no need to be too full of praise for Spec yet, this one was super easy.
Current Spec Tally: 1/1
2. (New York Silverbacks) Dogwood Maple (Correct)
Oh I know who this dude is, he seems like a cool guy on SHL. Anyway, Spec was dead on with this one again, and this one had a lot more people get it wrong. That being said it is still second overall, and like any draft has an obvious top two at least. I am gonna put the larger amount of errors on this one more down to everyone who got it wrong being lazy and/or dumb than Spec being smart on the call.
Maple is a very good pick here, after having a very impressive season as a Safety for the Norfolk Seawolves last season. He was tied with Zack Mouse for the most tackles by players in his position. He also managed to get a very impressive 6 sacks, which is good for second among all safeties in the league. I just want to reiterate that while Spec is still 100% after two picks, this part is still pretty insignificant for him mock accuracy wise.
Current Spec Tally: 2/2
3. (Baltimore Hawks) Ernest Lover (Correct)
Wow, nice job again Spec. Maintaining the perfect record, Spec accurately predicts that Defensive End Ernest Lover goes next to the Baltimore Hawks. Now based on what I'm seeing going through the mock thread, this one was an even more predictable pick than Dogwood Maple going 2nd, so as biased as I may sound, I still believe this is a negligible correct prediction, and we still have yet to hit that crunch time where the predictions are really important.
Lover had a great season for the London Royals last season in the DSFL, as he was the top defensive end in the league in the tackling category, while also being tied for first among all defensive ends in sacks. Add into that a very solid 11 TFLs, and Lover really proved himself to be well worth the value of a third overall pick, and should be a big impact guy down the line for the Hawks. Spec may be 100% still after three picks, but now its about to get interesting...
Current Spec Tally: 3/3
4. (Yellowknife Wraiths) Leonard Taylor (-8)
Yikes! That's the first incorrect prediction by Spec, and oh boy its a doozy. While he was correct in predicting that Taylor would come out of the draft a Wraith, Yellowknife managed to bag him instead with 12th overall, their second of two firsts. That's a bad look for Spec who was wildly off on this one. What were you thinking man?
The actual pick here was Arthur Naught, a Wide Receiver and first offensive player taken in the draft. He was eighth in the league in receiving yards (seventh among wide receivers) last season, notching 720 yards from 63 receptions, as the primary receiver for the Kansas City Coyotes. Despite only scoring a single touchdown, Naught showed a lot of upside, and Yellowknife took him here at 4th recognizing that. Spec falls down to 75% accuracy with that misplay, we'll see if he recovers.
Current Spec Tally: 3/4
5. (New Orleans Second Line) Vincent Jones (Correct)
Nice! Good recovery after that terrible last prediction Spec! Unfortunately, this prediction of Jones to the New Orleans Second Line at fifth seemed like a commonly shared prediction among the ISFL collective, so much like with the rest of Spec's predictions, I would be remiss as a reporter for an objective and respectable media outlet if I called this truly impressive.
Jones is the second Luchadores Linebacker taken in the draft after McMullet, and he had a similarly very impressive season on their defense. He was 6th overall in tackles in the league with 110, which also ranked him first among all rookies. He was also tied for third in sacks with 9, which similarly put him first among rookies in that category too. Also being second among linebackers in passes defended with 8, it was overall one of the best S25 DSFL rookie seasons for Jones, who is a slam dunk pick for NOLA here. Being a slam dunk pick, we don't have to read too much into Spec getting this one right too.
Current Spec Tally: 4/5
6. (Philadelphia Liberty) Ryan Negs (Correct)
Wow Spec is really killing it so far! He is right once again and improves to 5/6 overall with the correct prediction of the Philadelphia Liberty selecting Quarterback Ryan Negs at 6th overall. Now look, before anyone calls me a broken record with the next thing I'm gonna say, I am simply just reporting the COLD HARD FACTS based on the mock draft thread. Anyway, most people who predicted Jones correctly (a lot of people) had Negs going right after him at 6th, so it would seem as if Spec is not doing more than getting consensus correct predictions so far. He is still unproven even with his good start to the mock.
Anyway, Negs to say the least was fantastic as the Minnesota Grey Ducks QB last season, coming second in the league in throwing yards and completed passes, notching 2477 yards over 251 receptions. He was also third in passing touchdowns with 13, making it a very impressive professional debut campaign for the promising rookie. However, he did throw the second most interceptions with 13, so he will have to improve on that moving forward in his career. Nice job still so far Spec!
Current Spec Tally: 5/6
