Week 3 in the NSFL saw the young Wraiths get their first taste of defeat and needless to say it did not go over well with the team. After going up 3-0 in the first quarter it looked like Yellowstone might be able to grind out a victory but Colorado's offence rallied and put up 17 straight unanswered points. With 3 minutes left in the third quarter and a 10-3 score rookie safety Marcus Kane picked off Logan Noble at the 3 yard line to rob the Yeti of a red zone touchdown and it looked like the Wraiths might be gaining momentum but a fumble early in the fourth quarter by a sacked Chris Orosz killed their rally.
We managed to get an interview with Kane after the game in the locker room and was quoted as saying:
"Man is that a tough game to play. Losing like that puts a terrible taste in your mouth and makes you want to vomit. I really thought when I got that pick we were gonna come back and win. I would trade that pick in a heartbeat if it meant we could be at 3-0 right now."
Team mate Kevin Cushing walked by at that moment and snorted "I'd trade your pick for all the passes you let Gucci have. 9 receptions, 61 yards." Kane shot Cushing a murderous glance and looked like he was about to lose his cool when veteran linemen Mat Akselsen and Jogn Floggity stepped between them and diffused the situation. Floggity even cracked a joke about switching to safety so they could see how bad it could really be while Akselsen went down a darker path with "Damn all this pessimism!!! We gonna butt fuck the Legion!!"
Cushing meanwhile had the best game of his relatively new career. He notched eight tackles and early in the first he managed to penetrate the o line and haul Noble down for his first career sack. He also held Colorado running back Tweed to zero receiving yards showing his prowess as a coverage back and also teasing GMs and fans alike with his unlimited potential as a defensive dynamo.
It is early and the Wraiths still sit at 2-1 tied for first in their division but this loss really highlighted their inexperience and youth. The good teams stick together win or lose and support each other. As long as guys like Floggity and Akselsen are around I believe that Yellowstone will have a good locker room and can maintain their pace as a top team in the NSFL.
