Week 5 Game Review
Versus: Norfolk Seawolves
Overview:
The Seawolves were 0 – 4 coming into the game versus the Pythons. So all expectations were on the Pythons to take a ‘easy’ win. The Pythons are looking to bounce back this week after a tough week prior going 1-1-1 in some close games.
The Pythons won the toss and elected to kick the ball. The Pythons defense managed to hold the Seawolves to a 3 & out, allowing this Pythons to have their first offensive drive start on their own 42 yard line. With the first snap for the Pythons, Jax Baker was able to break a tackle and pick up a solid 13 yards gain. The Pythons got their first points on the board when Panda Mckyle threw a lovely ball into the hands of Calvin Hobbs, who broke away from the defenders to score a 22 yard TD. A strong looking Seawolves drive was stopped just before the halfway mark, ending the momentum the Seawolves were starting to gain, the punt saw the Pythons start their second drove on the Pythons 13 yard line. A well put together 13 play drive saw Noah Jones rush for 10 yards for the second TD of the game. A strong returning drive on the Seawolves saw them scored a TD taking the ball all the way from their own 10 yard line.
Unfortunately for the Pythons they were not able to capitalize on the 2 fumbles in the drive as they were recovered by the Seawolves. Though credit must be given to the Pythons defense for forcing two fumbles within a drive. The Pythons had a promising drive brewing until some good defense by the Seawolves forced a missed FG from the 44 yard line.
On the first play of the next drive Savage (Seawolves QB) was picked by an outstanding play from ‘The Laz’ for a 37 yard pick 6, bringing the score to 21 -7 with just under 2 min left in the first half. A goal line fumble, forced by Floors recover by Le, saw the Seawolves miss a golden optioning to bring score closer before the end of the half.
Half Time Score: 21 – 7
The 3rd quarter was a rather dull affair for both team, with the ball flittering around the midfield mark with several drives going nowhere. Then out of the blue, Panda was able to find Tay Swizzle outside the numbers for a 54 yard TD, giving the Pythons a commanding 28 – 7 lead with 2 mins left in the 3rd quarter. The Seawolves were unable to find their way past the wall that is the Pythons defense. The Pythons started the 4th quarter deep in their own half, looking to take as much time off the clock as possible. A 4 & 3 on their 40 yard line was a simple choice, punt! And what a punt it was Ty Knotts sending the ball the Seawolves 3 yard line in a 56 yard punt. That play gets Play of the Game. The Seawolves faced a tough drive here, those on with 2 large pass gains of 60 & 22 yards in 3 plays, meant the Pythons defense were on the back foot, trying to hold the Seawolves on the field for a long as possible. Then with 6:10 left in the quarter the Seawolves scored a TD, bringing the game within 2 scores. The Pythons started the drive well killing 2 minutes with 3 plays then disaster, the Seawolves got the turnover they needed with a fumble recovery on the Pythons 36 yard line. The defense stood strong in the critical moment for the Pythons forcing a turnover on downs, surly the victory was assured now? The Pythons offence needed to have the ball at the 2 min mark to all but assure them off victory, unfortunately with 8s before the 2 minute mark the Pythons had to punt the ball. The Python defense again stood strong and held the Seawolves to 14 yard in 5 plays to secure another win.
