Jambo! and welcome to Nairobi, the Green City in the Sun, the Safari Capital of the World, and your host city for Ultimus Bowl XXXI! The citizens of Kenya are delighted to welcome ISFL fans from all over the world to their capital and largest city to celebrate this great sport and crown the Season 31 Ultimus Champions!
Africa is the world’s second-largest continent, a place rich in natural beauty, biodiversity, and geological resources, but historically disadvantaged and underrepresented on the world stage. However, major events like the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, the 2035 FIBA World Cup of Basketball in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the 2040 Summer Olympics in Lagos, Nigeria, have increased Africa’s prominence in world sport. That will continue as the Ultimus Bowl comes to Nairobi in 2046, introducing this incredible city to football fans from all over the world, and introducing the sport to thousands of new fans on this vast continent!
Join more than 70,000 other screaming, excited football fans to watch the final game of the ISFL season in the newly renovated and expanded Kasarani Stadium at Moi International Sports Center -- The Home of Heroes! Before and after the game, fans can admire the unforgettable natural wonders of East Africa and the African Great Lakes. Just outside the city, see the incredible biodiversity of Nairobi National Park, home to lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, rhinoceroses, and hundreds of other incredible animals! More adventurous types can let Nairobi be their gateway north to the Kenyan highlands and the sacred slopes of Africa’s second-highest peak, Mt. Kenya, or south into Tanzania to see Mt. Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti plains, home of nature’s largest annual migration event! Water lovers can journey westward to the shores of the world’s second-largest freshwater lake, Lake Victoria, home to hippopotamus, crocodiles, birds large and small, and beautiful cichlid fish found nowhere else in the world!
But fans don’t even need to leave the city to have an unforgettable experience! Nairobi is the financial capital of Africa and one of its largest and most modern cities, home to incredible art, architecture, and food. Don’t miss the opportunity to feast on nyama choma, Kenya’s delicious national dish of savory grilled or roasted goat! Literature enthusiasts may wish to pay a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum, the former residence of the Danish author better known by her pen name, Isak Denisen. See Kenyan and Pan-African art at the Nairobi Gallery, or learn the history of Kenya and East Africa at the Nairobi National Museum. Lovers of the nightlife can finish out their days dancing to benga music or local hip-hop at modern bars and nightclubs, frequented by expats and locals alike!
Come to Ultimus Bowl XXXI in Nairobi, and let football become your introduction to the vibrant culture and stunning natural environment of one of Africa’s great cities!

EDIT:I thought it might be best if I added a few lines explaining why I was inspired to create this concept. As you may have noticed from the fictional events included in the description, I wanted to lean into the fact that the ISFL timeline is about 20 years ahead of “real” time, and that gap is growing all the time as roughly 7 ISFL years pass for every calendar year. That made me want to set the event in an emerging economy, a part of the world that in 2021 might not be able to host such an event, but which could be playing a much bigger part on the world stage in the future. The 2010 South Africa World Cup was a source of inspiration, but South Africa already has the continent’s most modern economy, and I wanted to pick a place perhaps less familiar and less “European-ized.” Nairobi is a hub of modernity and economic growth in Africa, and will play a leading role in Africa’s continuing development.
I also think I ought to address something potentially problematic, namely the nation of Kenya’s poor track record on LGBT rights. I can understand why some people might be troubled by this proposal as a result. I am not ignorant of this very real issue. However, I decided that it did not need to limit the scope of my imagination. The ISFL takes place in a fictional universe, and I choose to believe that the ISFL universe is a more ideal place than the world we know.
