I’m typically a well reserved guy, but some things just get on my nerves, and skipping out on training camp is a huge breach of trust, and disregard of a player’s responsibilities.
“...I’ll be ready” The words of the naive rookie constantly echoed in my mind. Ready? How exactly do you expect to be ready when you haven’t stepped foot on a true football field, you haven’t hit or been hit by professional athletes yet. The men in the big leagues are a whole lot stronger, faster, and more evasive than the little league he’s used to. Seriously, the Developmental League is nothing compared to the way we play up here, so if Lil’ CW really thinks he’s gonna be “ready” without practice, without the prep we put in, he’s got another thing coming.
You know that’s the one thing I hate most, cockiness. Way back when I was drafted in the ISFL, there were countless guys who were all talk, and look where they’re all at now. How many guys do you see out on the field today from Season 22? It’s barely a handful. Words and pride gets you nowhere in the league. What really makes a difference is effort, leadership and the contributions you make to the team as a whole. I haven’t made it 10 years in this league by not showing up to practice.
And worst of all is that this kid thinks he’s just gonna walk on week 1 and take my spot. Nah nah nah, you best believe I’m gonna make him earn that. I’ve watched his tape so I know his strengths and weaknesses, and I know that he’s gonna get burned these first few games since he hasn’t practiced and has no experience. He may have talent in the DSFL but he’s never played against an Elite QB who knows how to exploit a young corner. If he wants to start at Nickelback, I’m gonna test his endurance and limits, his speed and vision to ensure that my successor is worthy of this position. Until then, I hope he enjoys watching a vet wreck Havoc.
Cross out.
