Welcome! Thanks for opening up this article to hear my thoughts on anything and everything. So I've been here for a little under two years now. How time flies! I simply can not believe that I am finally living my dream and playing ISFL. I am playing in the ISFL! I still have to pinch myself. It does not feel real. It is such an incredible feeling to run out onto that field, catch a ball and make a run for it down the field and scpre a goal. Last season i made my longest catch ever. And just 2 games ago, I made the GW catch. To be able to make two such amazing clutch plays while being so new and only a Wide Receiver 3 feels so good. Just so good.
So going back to that longest catch. It was a whopping 96ft, for those of you who understand the metric system - I'm looking at you mum, dad and grandma Sally. 96ft is just under 30mt, 29.2mt to be exact. I, little Kotoni Staggs, hold the record for the longest catch in the playoffs. I find it weird though, the stat is under the playoff tab, whilst the regular season record holder for the longest catch is held by Taro Raimon with 90ft. It's just so crazy. My best performance ever.
Anyway, I have totally digressed. So over in the Pro Baseball League, I've read a few media articles titled the Mount Rushmore of something something and something or something. And I thought it was such a good idea that I thought I would copy it and do it here. And I thought that I would start with my time here in Arizona. Especially for my fans back at home. Let me paint a word picture for you. I'm sitting here, in my wooden, hamptons styled deckchair, nice and low to the ground, a super comfy angle and a nice cold glass of lemon flavoured soda water on the table beside me. On the other side of my table is another chair. I want you to imagine you are sitting there with me and just listening to me. I thought that i should give you a detailed description of the wonders of Arizona and give you a list of places you might want to add to your destination list when you come and visit me and watch me play So I'll give you a minute to get your drink of choice, just because we are going to take a mental vacation in Australia doesn't mean it needs to be alcoholic, find a comfy place to read and get reading.
As I started, I have been here for a little under two seasons, as we are now in week 4 of season 32 and I have been able to do a little bit of travelling, especially in the most recent off season but also on Tuesdays. Tuesdays are my free days where I don’t have to be in the sheds training. I wake up, hit the gym, get home, freshen up with a shower, drink a mango and banana smoothie, get in the car, or on the train and just travel. Sometimes I go with the road and the signs lead me and end up in the most magical place watching a sunset, or I take purposeful directions, carefully following the satnav, is that even what it's called here, and end up in an equally as cool place.
So my Mount Rushmore of tourist attractions for a newbie like me. If you don't know what a Mount Rushmore is, (again, looking at you Aussie readers) it is my top 4 somethings. So for today, my top four tourist attractions for anyone coming to travel to Arizona. Obviously besides visiting the stadium and watching us play. And by us… me. Potato Potahto.
So my top 4 tourist attractions
4. Barringer Crater. This place is magnificent. So from everything that I have read it was caused by a huge meteorite hurtling down towards earth from outerspace and obviously the energy and result of impact was what we see there today. I’d like to think that There are huge celestial beings out there playing baseball and one hit a huge homerun as as it was running around the planets as bases the ball came and hit earth, right there. Anyway. My recommendation is to go see this place of an evening, as the sun is setting. It is breathtaking.
3. Anything to do with any canyon, rock formation or national park. I have only been able to see the monument but if everything else along the grand canyon, Canyon De Chelly National Monument, Antelope Canyon and any of the many national parts. If you can take an airplane and fly over, I would totally recommend that too.
2. Jerome. This was a bit of a drive but really reminded me of home. Kind of like a home away from home. There is a an old gold mining town close to where I live back in Australia that this place reminds me of. I went there and didn’t expect to feel nostalgic. I mean, of course I did, but didn’t expect it. The mix of relics and ruins and restored buildings is wonderful to see all mixed together. It is a wonderful place to go. I think it would be in the top 4 for me purely for sentimental reasons, so you might not think it would be. Again, my audience is probably family and friends from Australia, so would also appreciate it. The next time I go back I will go to the Sliding Jail.
1. I said that I have often gone on my days off but I end up doing super long workouts on those days due to hiking or swimming and this next one was one of those., I’ve always been a little worried about what my GMs and coaches would say if they knew where I was going - Yea, go out, see the sights they say, but maybe they haven’t been for so long that they have forgotten the exercise that they require...what if I roll my ankle and stupidly out for a week or two due to a self inflicted injury? Anyway. Havasu Falls. This place is breathtaking and so picturesque. The red, red stone contrasted against the crystal pale blue water. When you are there it looks exactly like the postcards. It is hard to believe that this place is real life and not a dream. This is 100% the most necessary place to go. And don’t forget to take your swimmers. Oh, and take a picnic. You won’t want to leave, but when you do finally decide that you need to pull yourself away from this place and make your way back to real life, you will feel energised and relaxed.
Here’s to continuing to adventure in the next off season and to not injuring myself *knocks on wood*
So here is my little take on the place I now call home. I can’t wait to show Wendell all these cool places when he finally comes across to the ISFL. I hope that one day you make your way here too. It really is a wonderful place to visit - not only to see us play but see the wonderful places to visit.
Till next time
