NJisOKAY was a massive success, and I thank y’all for that! It really couldn’t have happened without all of you voters, so again - thank you, thank you, thank you. With another Host City Comp comes another Adam Submission - and the submission this season is a good one.
Where will the Ultimus/Mini be held?
D-TOWN, THE MOTOR CITY, THE COMEBACK STORY, Y’ALL ALREADY KNOW - DETROIT, MICHIGAN, BABY!
Why have you chose this city?
There’s three sins in life currently: killing, stealing, and the fact that Detroit doesn’t have an ISFL team. I mean, there’s not much that needs to be said. One of Time Magazine’s 50 Greatest Places to Explore, a tourist attraction city, the first US city to be marked a City of Design by UNESCO, Detroit has been a city of hope for a while now. All three of the prior points I’ve stated are key reasons to why Detroit is a perfect host city - it’s ready for the challenge of the Ultimus season.
Also, their SPORTS, dear GOD their sports. D-Town is one of the few cities in the continental United States that has a team in all four of the professional sports leagues - the Tigers in the MLB, Red Wings of the NHL, Pistons in the NBA and Campbell Cultists - sorry, the Lions - in the NFL. The city even has other sports teams that deserve some love - there’s twenty Michigan college football teams that call Detroit home, with three being Div-1 - UofM’s Wolverines, Michigan State’s Spartans and Eastern Michigan’s Eagles. The Detroit City FC is a soccer club in the USL Championship that beat an MLS team, the Columbus Crew - maybe promotion is in their future? Whatever case, Detroit and its fans love it’s sports - hell, have you seen Lions games lately? Detroit would eat an Ultimus up, and it could maybe lead to an ISFL team in the future.
Detroit’s also the area where athletes became sporting legends. I can name two Detroit players in all four leagues that are in, or have a valid shot at, the Hall of Fame. I don’t even need to try for the NFL - Megatron and Barry Sanders. MLB? Despite being a bastard Astro right now, I think Justin Verlander’s got a valid shot - he brought the Tigers to the Series in 06, for crying out loud -, and the greatest CF to ever do it, Ty Cobb, spent a majority of his career in the Tigers. The Pistons claim to fame? Isiah Thomas, the lifelong Piston and 12-time All Star, immediately comes to mind, who, along with another lifelong player in Joe Dumars, formed a historic backcourt. NHL? The shits close to Canada, of course you’d have legends such as Gordie Howe and Steve Yzerman. A city of legends needs a legendary game. They hosted the Super Bowl - why not host an Ultimus?
Where will the Mus be held?
I know a lot of y’all are gonna say Ford Field, but I’m gonna go a bit west for this one.
The Big House itself, Michigan Stadium! The largest stadium in the USA, as well as the third-biggest stadium in the world, it hosts over 100 thousand strong, which is more than enough that’ll host the fans of the teams. Having served the Wolverines for over a century(!), it shows a key role that Michiganders give off - the ability to withstand anything.
Now, a lot of you are gonna ask - why not Ford Field? Lemme give y’all a basic rundown:
- Sports leagues trust Mich Stadium - When the NHL wanted to host a Winter Classic, they didn’t go for Ford; they went for Mich. Some Premier and Liga teams - Man Uni and Madrid come to mind - even took residence at the stadium during the International Champions Cups, with attendance still over the 100K mark.
- Bigger capacity - In a bigger is better and home field advantage world, you need fans to support your team. With the extra 35 thousand, more fans of, say, the Liberty, can overcome fans of the Wraiths or the Butchers.
- It’s a cooler stadium - Admit, a big giant looking stadium looks way cooler than something that looks like a keyboard button. Where’s the variety?
Has Ford Field hosted a Super Bowl? Yes. Has it hosted WrestleMania? Yes. Does it have the power Michigan Stadium has? No.
What can you do when not watching dot football?
Earlier in this claim, I said Detroit was one of TIME Magazine’s 50 Greatest Cities to Explore. There’s a great reason for that, as Detroit has a shit ton of history around it, and its culture is rivaled by few. You’re telling me the city that gave birth to Eminem doesn’t have culture? Like I did with Jersey, imma go through a couple of things to do in Detroit.
- Visit some of the finest museums known to man, such as the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Historical Museum (both in Midtown), and the Motown Historical Museum in New Center.
- Take in some of the city’s best landmarks, one such being the Fist of Joe Louis.
- Watch a couple performances in theaters such as the Fox Theatre and the Detroit Opera House.
- Enjoy some amazing hospitality and gambling at the amazing resorts and casinos, such as the MGM Grand, Hollywood Casino and Caesar’s Windsor.
- Shop to your hearts content at the many shopping malls that dot the city, with some almost 200 store malls such as the Twelve-Oaks and the Somerset Collection.
- Live up the nightlife with Detroit’s finest artists - hell, you’re telling me the city that gave birth to Eminem doesn’t have good music?
- If you’re lucky, catch a couple of games one the Big Four sports teams have to offer.
What will the logo look like?
Joe Louis’ Fist is a memorial in Hart Plaza dedicated to the boxer who fought in more ways than one. It’s also a tribute to what Detroit is - a town with a fighting spirit. With this in mind, I wanted to try to implement it in the logo, alongside one of the “pride and joys” of the Motor City; the Lions.
Like before, this isn’t polished.
Thanks for reading! Go Lions Go (to get Bryce Young)!
