Who is Rocky Franklin lll?
I have cover this in a past media post about the upbringing and goals of Rocky. This is written after his first season with the Norfolk Seawolves and complete Season being on a team.
Rocky Franklin lll has finished his first Season with the Norfolk Seawolves. Him and the team didn't disappoint at all, finishing with a record of 9-5, ranking first in the DSFL League and South Conference. Eventually, this led them to reaching the Ultimini against the Kansas City Coyotes. Rocky finished the Season with 2629 Yards, 23 TDs to 7 INTs, a 56% Completion Percentage, and an 89.6 passer rating. Overall, not the greatest performance to start his career but did have the best TD-INT Rato in the DSFL League.
Besides the stats, Rocky was named one out of the two leaders for the Boats which came at a big surprise. Not that much an outspoken person when it comes to being outside the locker room, he keeps his trash talking left out on the field, letting his playing do the talking.
Overall, Rocky's experience in his first Season has been amazing. Just not from the record and wins but with the team his is with. You couldn't change his mind on what team he would want to play for again. The Boats is his home until he reaches the ISFL. All the help he has got is appreciated as well!
Who are the Seawolves? What Made Them Special?
The Seawolves, record wise have been up and down the past few Seasons. Currently, they've had 2 back-to-back winning Seasons after a 5-9 record in Season 37. Just last Season, Season 38 they went 8-6 with Former QB, Roque Santa Cruz under center for the Boats. They now have Rocky Franklin lll under center, leading them to a 9-5 Season.
This Season was special with them reaching the Ultimini against the Coyotes, despite losing against them this Season was a great one. The team improved together, and they did what they do best, create havoc on both sides of the ball. For the offense, it was running the ball down the opponents' throats and for defense, it was creating turnovers and even more turnovers. The team worked together as one and didn't press off the gas pedal.
Statistically, the team was ranked 1st in the Conference and 4th in the League in Points Scored, 2nd in the Conference and 5th in the League in Yards, 1st in the Conference and 1st in the League for Rushing Yards, and 4th in the Conference and 8th in the League for Passing Yards. I say, that's pretty good all around. Being ranked at least in the Top 4 many times which was proven record wise. The Boats hope to continue this success for many Seasons, and it starts with everyone on the team.
The Boats put up an incredible Season and was the best in the DSFL League. Let's see if this success continues as the next few Seasons start up.
Meet Some of the Players!
Let's meet the 3 Headed Rushing Monster on the team.
Hot Chocolate - Howard Coward - Henry Oswald-Newman
These three combined were able to put up 2521 Yards with 526 Attempts, averaging 4.7 Yards a carry, just 2nd in the League, and 16 TDs to finish the Season. Leading them, Henry put up 1165 Yards with 9 TDs on 233 carries. Both the attempts and yards were the best in the League showing that all three of them can be efficient in the run game. This helped the Boats produce on offense a lot more.
TE Big McLarge Huge
He led the team in receiving yards and TDs. This put him in the Top 15 for both in the League. Many overlook the TE position since they are just a bigger and slower WR who can block. Huge was able to be more than that and help become a security blanket for Rocky. Just his first season in, he is off to a great start and is expected to be even better as the next season comes about.
LB Toad Wananapaoa
Just being a rookie for the Boats, Toad put up incredible numbers on defense. Putting up 104 Tackles, 14 Tackles for Loss, 2 Forced Fumbles, 14 Sacks, 1 INT, and 2 Pass Deflections. Toad put the saying that LB's are Generals of the Defense on the next level. What might make him standout is his speed, which is currently at 80 for him. More of an agile LB which shows on the stat sheet. Another player for the Boats that they expect to have another great season as he grows as a player and teammate.
FS Julius McMiller
Julius, in his third year has put up tremendous numbers with 9 INTs which led the League this season, along with 10 Pass Deflections. He was able to get the ball back to the offense 9 times, 9 TIMES. Although, it wasn't a one-man job, he took a big step up this Season in comparison to last Season. His Pass Deflections number went down but his INT number went up from 4 to 9. Julius has been a great player for Boats and his stats have shown that.
There are many other guys that can be talked about, but these are the few who stood out the most. Although, not talked about enough, they helped the Boats reach the Playoffs and showed out their Rookie Season for those who are still a Rookie. The whole team is appreciated for their work and improvement as the Season went on. The coaches and the whole coaching staff did a great job in bringing in great players and even better teammates.
Final Thoughts?
The Boats are in a position to be great for the next few seasons with the current team. Even though some may might get drafted, there is no doubt the coaches can't bring in even more talent to fill the holes that might get left behind. This is a great team all around and the League better watch out for them. Opposing defenses have to worry about the pass and run, there is no escape from it. The Boats aren't stopping at all!
