Well, another trade deadline is coming upon us and it promises to bring its usual rush of excitement around playoff speculations and a new class of players creating. But it also means its time for me to give another update on my player, Adrian St. Christmas! In case you're not aware of my player's unique quarterbacking career arc, these updates are meant to be fun but they also serve another purpose: to remind the ISFL GMs that his services are once again up for the taking. Adrian came into the league with ambitions like many of you, to be the greatest ever. Perhaps he will be (he's now got ring after all), but he's going to have to do it the hard way because my ambitions will force him along the scenic route. He's a journeyman stop-gap quarterback and his current team, the Chicago Butchers, is his third in three seasons. You can read more about all of this in my previous updates in this series here, here, here, and here. For now, its just worth knowing that he is meant to help teams transition between their franchise cornerstones, so he'll go to the team that offers him the most money PROVIDED they prove that they plan to move on from him within 1-2 seasons.
Leaving Yellowknife last season was not easy. We were a legitimately historic team coming off an Ultimus win and they wanted me to run it back one more time. Just as important, I had a great time in the Locker Room and truly enjoyed my time with the Wraiths. It just wasn't meant to be. But I'm happy to report that my time with the culinary squad has been just as rewarding. Our record has us tied for first in the conference and second in the league with a playoff spot almost locked up. We also have the second highest points scored in the league this season, which positions us well to make a deep run in the playoffs. But if the Butchers want a shot at their second-ever championship, it's looking like they'll need to go through Adrian's old team, Yellowknife, and the team Adrian beat in the S39 Ultimus, the mighty Arizona Outlaws. It'll be a fun ride no matter how you slice it. As for St. Christmas, he's having a pretty ok season statistically, but I do expect that to improve slightly to end up somewhere just north of average by the time the final S40 Ultimus buzzer sounds.
And yet, as I mentioned, I need to start thinking about next season. By the start of next season I'll have just about all attributes maxed out and only my two minor traits left to work on (I already have the game manager trait), so you could say I'm approaching peak performance pretty quickly. I will NOT be returning to the Windy City in S41, so I'm looking for a new home. And keep in mind that my contract renders my tamperable at all times. I have had one team reach out with interest in signing me for next season, but I want all potential teams to be on equal and fair footing.
So, here's what I'll do. I want all teams that are interested in Adrian St. Christmas playing for them NEXT SEASON (S41) to reach out to me by the ISFL trade deadline (that's this coming week). Have final pitches ready for me at the close of the regular season (or at least a near date that you expect to have them in by). And I will make a decision by the beginning of the S40 Ultimus so that all teams will know by internal draft time. Note: If you are interested in him playing for you in S42 or later please also reach out to me as soon as possible so I can get an idea. I may want to move these deadlines up in future years to allow for more planning if that's what teams would like to do. If you have any feedback on my process please let me know! My aim is to make it as easy and fair as possible for all the teams.
Happy planning!
A note to the grader: As usual, I never know when there is a media bonus or whatever. So if there is a media bonus please read this media in whatever light is most likely to show its very intentionally-met qualifications.
