Muddy's Matchup Review: Week 9
Colorado Yeti (1-8) VS Honolulu Hahalua (2-7)
Overview
For the second week in a row, the Hahalua emerged triumphant this time over the Yeti with a final score of 42-30. Pete Moss showcased his precision with a 25-yard field goal, bringing the Yeti into the lead first. Stetson David then bulldozed his way into the end zone with a powerful 2-yard run, bringing the Hahalua to a 7-3 lead. As the action intensified in the second quarter, Preston Beatz orchestrated a spectacular 6-yard touchdown pass to Mister Hogmally. Moss unleashed a relentless barrage of field goals from 26 and an astounding 57 yards, showcasing his unrivaled accuracy and extending the Yeti's lead to 16-7 at halftime. The third quarter erupted into a scoring frenzy as the Hahalua unleashed a barrage of offensive firepower. Lenard McRobinson found his way through the defense with a 7-yard run, before unleashing a 5-yard touchdown pass to A Waffle. Hearty Harry then electrified the crowd with a breathtaking 29-yard interception return for yet another touchdown, leaving the Yeti reeling. The Hahalua maintained a commanding 28-16 lead heading into the final quarter. In a heart-stopping fourth-quarter showdown, both teams continued to trade blows with relentless determination. Preston Beatz unleashed his arm with two more touchdown passes, threading the needle to La'Fluke Paris-Johnson and NCADV RAINN. However, the Hahalua were right there with them, behind another McRobinson TD and Stetson David's touchdown, leading a late offensive surge. This sealed their victory with a final score of 42-30.
My Thoughts
This looks like a brand new Hahalua team than we have been seeing this season as they now win their second in a row, both with second-half comebacks. With this win, the Yeti officially become the worst team in the ISFL. Hahalua's winning run is gonna be coming to a quick halt as they play the Outlaws, Crash, and Sabercats for their next three. It was fun while it lasted, but I can't see the next three being that competitive. The Yeti on the other hand have a winnable game next week against the Fire Salamanders so they might not be last for that long.
Muddy's Player of the Game
QB Lenard McRobinson (@shadyshoelace)
Stats: 25/31 passing, 300 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT | 7 attempts, 30 yards rushing, 2 TDs
Reason: McRobinson is earning his second PotG in back-to-back weeks. He had another great performance with both attacking the air and rushing. This week, he broke 300 passing yards and scored 3 total touchdowns. With him heating up the past two weeks with 554 passing yards, 112 rushing yards, and 7 total touchdowns, he could be the driving force for the Hahalua to keep winning.
New York Silverbacks (2-7) VS New Orleans Secondline (6-3)
Overview
In a match-up between the Silverbacks and the Secondline, the Secondline emerged victorious with a final score of 34-16. The game started with the Secondline taking an early lead as Kyle Crane scored a touchdown on a 6-yard run giving the Secondline a 7-0 lead. The Silverbacks responded with a field goal by Wing Wang from 32 yards out, narrowing the gap to 7-3. In the second quarter, both teams added field goals, with Wing Wang kicking a 27-yarder for the Silverbacks and Jack Sloth adding a 23-yard field goal for the Secondline, maintaining their lead at 10-6. The third quarter saw a similar pattern with both teams adding field goals once again, extending the score 13-9. The fourth quarter turned out to be decisive as the Secondline exploded with three touchdowns. Octavion Speedings connected with Thomas Passarelli for a 4-yard touchdown pass, followed by a 39-yard interception return for a touchdown by Scott Junior, and then Will Nuck scored on a 3-yard run. The Silverbacks managed to score a touchdown late in the game with an 11-yard pass from Blaine Falco to Frank Dux, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Secondline's lead.
My Thoughts
After such a great game last week against the Crash, this is a very tough loss for the Silverbacks. They just couldn't find a way to get in the endzone which ultimately cost the game as there was no keeping up with the onslaught in the fourth quarter. The Secondline look back to the form from early in the season as they now are on a three-game winning streak. With winnable matchups over the next two weeks, they could be right up there for third place in the ASFC. As we have seen with this team however they struggle with good competition so the Week 12 matchup against the Otters is gonna be a good test to see if they can overcome that a bit.
Muddy's Player of the Game
WR Hank Mardukas (@Chicken Lips)
Stats: 7 receptions, 127 yards, 18.1 avg
Reason: Mardukas' was a very solid option for Speedings throughout the entire game. Leading the team in receptions, breaking over 120 yards, and having a staggering 18.1 yards per catch, he was easily the PotG for this matchup.
Yellowknife Wraiths (4-5) VS Chicago Butchers (6-3)
Overview
In a close match with the Wraiths and Butchers, the Butchers emerged victorious with a final score of 31-24. The game started with an explosive play from the Wraiths as Money Tolliver scored a touchdown on an 80-yard pass from Maximus Boudreaux, giving them an early lead of 7-0. However, the Butchers quickly responded with a touchdown of their own as Speedy Gizmo caught a 16-yard pass from Painted Penguin, tying the game at 7-7. In the second quarter, David Doug kicked a 40-yard field goal to give the Butchers their first lead of the game at 10-7. Maximus Boudreaux then connected with Nick Williams for a 24-yard touchdown pass, extending the Wraiths' lead to 14-10. The third quarter saw a back-and-forth battle with both teams exchanging touchdowns. Painted Penguin threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Triceracop, taking back the lead at 17-14. Zenzeroni Xystarch II then kicked a 36-yard field goal to tie the game for the second time 17-17. Thor Dangerson changed the momentum of the game with an intercepted pass and return for a 38-yard touchdown, giving the Wraiths a 24-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, the Butchers staged a remarkable comeback. Painted Penguin threw two touchdown passes, first an 8-yard pass to Speedy Gizmo to tie the game, and then a 42-yard pass to Sem'ga Nah'sim, both followed by successful extra points by David Doug, securing the victory for the Butchers with a final score of 31-24.
My Thoughts
The Wraiths seem to be on a bit of a downward slide recently after giving Honolulu their first win of the season and not being able to secure a win this week. As all season, this team has been so unpredictable that I can't even write them off against the Hawks next week so we will just have to see how it goes once again. Chicago is heating up, going on a nice three-game winning streak. If they keep this pace they pretty much have second place locked up for the playoffs. What Chicago has to hope for is that the Hawks lose and they beat them in Week 13 to try and sneak into first.
Muddy's Player of the Game
QB Painted Penguin (@Painted)
Stats: 28/49 passing, 320 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INTs
Reason: Although it wasn't a perfect game, Painted Penguin led the Butchers' offense by throwing four touchdown passes, including two crucial ones in the fourth quarter to bring his team to victory. Despite facing pressure from the Wraiths' defense, Penguin remained composed and delivered clutch plays when it mattered most, earning him the title of PotG
Cape Town Crash (4-5) VS Berlin Fire Salamanders (2-7)
Overview
In an exciting match-up between Crash and the Fire Salamanders, Crash emerged victorious with a final score of 28-17. The game started with the Fire Salamanders taking an early lead as Pitter Patter caught an 82-yard pass from Tuna TurnDaBallOva, putting the Fire Salamanders ahead 7-0. However, Crash quickly responded with Kairo Knight catching a 20-yard pass from Thor Bǫllrsveifla, tying the game at 7-7. In the second quarter, Crash took control of the game. Nakiri Ayame went off in the second quarter for the Crash going for two touchdowns, first a 7-yard pass and then a 1-yard run, creating a commanding 21-7 lead heading into halftime. The third quarter saw the Fire Salamanders attempt to claw their way back into the game with a 26-yard field goal by Golden Foote, cutting Crash's lead to 21-10. However, Crash continued on in the fourth quarter with Hercules Henry scoring on a 1-yard run making it 28-10. The Fire Salamanders managed to score one more touchdown late in the game as Really Creative-Name caught a 7-yard pass from Tuna TurnDaBallOva, but it wasn't enough to overcome Crash's lead.
My Thoughts
This was a good confidence-building win for the Crash as they broke their two-game losing streak. Even though they lost some winnable games, I still can see the Crash bounce back at the end of the season and finish off decently strong. With only two tough matchups in the final 7 weeks, they should finish with a positive record. The Fire Salamanders continue to struggle and it looks like they will be in the fighting to get the first overall pick next year.
Muddy's Player of the Game
RB Nakiri Ayame (@ValorX77)
Stats: 28 attempts, 152 yards, 1 TD | 3 receptions, 13 yards, 1 TD
Reason: Ayame's versatility and impact on both the ground and air were a huge part of Crash's victory this week. With a strong rushing performance and a touchdown reception, there's not more you can ask from a running back and Ayame deserves the PotG no doubt.
Sarasota Sailfish (4-5) VS Baltimore Hawks (8-1)
Overview
In a commanding performance, the Hawks soared to victory over the Sailfish with a final score of 34-3. The Hawks dominated from the start, with Wolfie McDummy Jr. connecting with National Treasure for a 31-yard touchdown pass, putting the Hawks ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hawks continued their momentum as Anakin Skywalker scored on a 1-yard run, followed by Master Chief adding a 36-yard field goal, increasing the Hawks' lead to 17-0 heading into halftime. The Sailfish managed to get on the scoreboard in the third quarter with Swantavius King kicking a 33-yard field goal, but it wasn't enough to turn the tide of the game as the Hawks maintained a 17-3 lead. In the final quarter, the Hawks sealed their victory with two more touchdowns and another field goal. Anakin Skywalker scored his second touchdown of the game on a 7-yard run, followed by Jarvis Harbinger-Marjin's 3-yard touchdown run. Master Chief also added their 30-yard field goal, securing the Hawks' dominant 34-3 win.
My Thoughts
Another blowout loss for Sarasota, and their season is quickly getting worse and worse. Going 1-3 in their last four brought their strong start to a crashing halt and it doesn't seem like it is going to get any easier. With NOLA and the Otters still to go in this stretch, Sarasota needs a big upset to get back on the right track. Hawks continue dominating and I don't see it stopping anytime soon, with both their offense and defense ranked in the top 3 for the league, they are quickly making a case to be a championship-winning team.
Muddy's Player of the Game
WR National Treasure (@electrictree)
Stats: 4 receptions, 113 yards, 1 touchdown
Reason: Talk about an explosive performance in the passing game! Treasure made some great highlight plays including a 31-yard touchdown reception to start the game off right for the Hawks. Treasure proved to be instrumental in the Hawks' offensive success and his ability to stretch the field and make big plays helped propel his team to victory.
Austin Copperheads (3-6) VS San Jose Sabercats (8-1)
Overview
For the third blowout game of the week, the SaberCats beat the Copperheads with a commanding 33-0 victory. The game started with Booter McGavin's impressive 49-yard field goal, giving the SaberCats an early lead of 3-0 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the SaberCats extended their lead with a touchdown pass from Josh Patterson to Kit Fisto, bringing the score to 10-0 heading into halftime. The SaberCats continued their dominance in the third quarter, with McGavin adding another field goal and Patterson connecting with Keanu Calhoun for a 39-yard touchdown pass, increasing their lead to 20-0. In the final quarter, McGavin showcased his kicking prowess once again, adding two more field goals, including an impressive 50-yarder, to extend the SaberCats' lead to 26-0. Maple Dogwood sealed the victory with a 1-yard touchdown run, with McGavin adding the extra point, bringing the final score to 33-0 in favor of the SaberCats.
My Thoughts
Copperheads get smoked for the second week in a row and fall down to 3-6 on the season. Something has to be changed with their defence as for the last 3 games they've given over 30 points. To be charitable, they have been playing top teams these last few weeks but I can't see them making the playoffs anymore in this tough ASFC conference. Sabercats once again go back into their dominant ways and secure an easy win over the Copperheads. They got their revenge for Week 1 and they still stay as my favorite to win it all.
Muddy's Player of the Game
K Booter McGavin (@ajtigger)
Stats: 3/3 on extra points, 4/4 on field goals (including a 50-yarder), contributing 15 points to the SaberCats' total score.
Reason: McGavin's flawless performance as the kicker was instrumental in securing the SaberCats' victory, providing consistent scoring opportunities and showcasing his accuracy and range with a field goal in all but one distance range. Going 7/7 on kicks deserves a PotG in my book.
Orange County Otters (5-4) VS Austin Outlaws (8-1)
Overview
In the game of the week, the Outlaws managed to secure a narrow victory over the Otters in a thrilling match, ending with a score of 27-24. In the first quarter, Jayme Jayne Jay-Jaymison put the Outlaws on the board with a 27-yard field goal. However, the Otters quickly responded with two touchdowns, courtesy of Lloyd Bannings. The first was a 9-yard pass to Big McLarge Huge, followed by a 14-yard pass to Reginald Shrubbery, giving the Otters a 14-3 lead at the end of the quarter. The Otters continued their momentum into the second quarter, with Bannings connecting with Oliver Tolliver for a 6-yard touchdown pass, extending their lead to 21-3. However, the Outlaws fought back with Jay-Jaymison's 49-yard field goal and Donovan Winters III's 1-yard pass to Bertie Mannering-Phipps, cutting the deficit to 21-13 heading into halftime. The Outlaws staged a remarkable comeback in the third quarter, with Jay-Jaymison adding another field goal and Mannering-Phipps scoring a 6-yard rushing touchdown, along with a successful 2-point conversion, giving the Outlaws a 24-21 lead. In the final quarter, King Leonidas I of the Otters tied the game with a remarkable 53-yard field goal. However, Jay-Jaymison sealed the victory for the Outlaws with a 24-yard field goal, securing a hard-fought 27-24 win.
My Thoughts
The once 5-1 Otters we saw earlier in the season seem to have disappeared as they now drop to one game from .500. This loss is the worst of the three as they blew a 21-3 lead and lost to the Outlaws who they are trying to catch in the standings. With the Sabercats and Secondline winning as well, the Otters now drop to fourth in the ASFC and out of a playoff spot. Their season is not over by any means but they need to get back to finding how to win and do it before it's too late. Somehow no matter how bad it looks, the Outlaws find a way to win and they did it once again this week to bring their record to 8-1. Even though their season has been great so far, I feel like the Outlaws are the weakest 8-1 team out of the three. That is mostly due to the lackluster defense (6th in the league) compared to the Sabercats and Hawks, which going against the top teams could cause some trouble. However, I am not knocking the Outlaws as their team just wins, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters, not stats.
Muddy's Player of the Game
K Jayme Jayne Jay-Jaymison (@hannahg32)
Stats: 4/4 field goals (27, 49, 31, and 24 yards)
Reason: Jay-Jaymison was clutch this whole game, not missing a single kick and hitting the game-winning field goal to seal the win for the Outlaws. Scoring 44% of the team's points should not go unnoticed and that is why they are my pick for PotG.
