Last season, the Norfolk Seawolves made it all the way to the final game but fell short in the Ultimini Championship showdown with the Portland Pythons. Even with the teams going in opposite directions last season, however, Norfolk was beaten, not once but twice by the Tijuana Luchadores. But tonight, a new season begins for both teams.
Quarterback Jack Cannon returns to lead the Seawolves offense on a quest to complete the mission. He will once again have Sweet Sweet Ganjasmoke to throw to. On the defensive side of the ball, the Seawolves have Kipp Summers and I.Q. Bowman locking down the corners while Sebastian Rosenthal provides the pass rush.
The Tijuana Luchadores find themselves in unfamiliar territory, going into a season as an underdog. The veteran leadership of Kal Summers Jr and Holden Affart with Alexandros Sotoris at safety will be needed to keep the Luchadores competitive. First round pick Kai Ware gets tested right away as he is thrown into the fire against the Seawolves vaunted passing attack.
The Seawolves went 3-1 in the preseason, including a 28-24 come-from-behind win at Tijuana in Week one. Cannon connected on two fourth quarter touchdown passes to Super Sonic to secure the victory.
For the Luchadores, the preseason was something to forget. After they fell to Norfolk, they were outscored by a combined 76-11 by Dallas and Bondi Beach before getting their lone preseason win at Minnesota.
The sibling rivalry is at the forefront of this Week One showdown. The Summers Boys made a big splash this last season in the DSFL, earning all three of them First Round Status in the S50 ISFL Draft. Tonight, cornerback Kipp faces off against wide receiver Cal in the league's most entertaining one-on-one matchup.
It's Kipp vs Cal.
It's the Norfolk Seawolves against the Tijuana Luchadores.
