I'm Mike Halaway with WHIO news and this week I had the honor to sit down with Gregory Fletcher formal corner back of THE Ohio State University, and future DSFL draft prospect.
Mike: First off Gregory thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and chat with me.
Gregory: Of course, of course. I know these interviews are important in the league so I figured I'd better get used to them! (Gregory laughs and leans back in his chair.)
Mike: Well I suppose first off I should say congratulations! I've heard you just recently got engaged is that right?
Gregory: It is! To the most beautiful woman in the world, Rebecca. (Gregory smiles with what can only be described as someone in love.) She's my pillar Mike I wouldn't be a quarter of the man I am without her.
Mike: Well congratulations. So now with the DSFL draft just around the corner what have you been doing in between seasons?
Gregory: Training Mike, training everyday. Whether is running sprints, drills, weight lifting, or reviewing tapes. I'm trying everything I can to gain that edge for the league.
Mike: Eyeing any teams yet?
Gregory: Well I'd be happy with any team ya know? I suppose I just want to be on a team where I can make a difference and my presence can be that catalyst that makes a defense go from good to great.
Mike: You seem pretty confident in your abilities?
Gregory: (Laughs a little uncomfortably) Well my mother always told me to be humble but I suppose I have a bit of an ego. I think I can be that guy ya know? I think with just the right team I can really excel, really rise to the top.
Mike: Well any draft predictions? What overall pick do you see yourself at?
Gregory: Hell I'd love to be first overall! But I don't think that's realistic. The competition this year is fierce and there is a LOT of amazing players up for draft in the DSFL. Honestly I'd be estatic for top 10.
Mike: So how many seasons do you plan on playing in the DSFL?
Gregory: I know a lot of guys only want to play one season and move on to the NSFL, but have you seen those guys? Man its a totally different world in the NSFL! These guys are the top athletes around! As good as I am I feel I can look at the NSFL and know that I couldn't keep up, at least not now. I want to spend at least two seasons in the DSFL, hell maybe even three! I want to make a difference in the NSFL as well and I know I'll need some serious experience before I can even dream of making a splash.
Mike: Now we've heard rumors that you've been contacted by a team or two about a potential draft?
Gregory: No comment on that.
Mike: No hint? Not even a confirmation?
Gregory: Nah man come on.... You know I can't say anything about that.
Mike: Fair enough, fair enough. So any predictions for the DSFL next season?
Gregory: Well I think the Chicago Blues are the team to look out for next year.
Mike: Oh the Blues? Why is that?
Gregory: A lot of people kept saying how "lucky" the team was how they didn't "deserve" their wins. I think that's a load of crap. I mean luck won't carry you through the season, sure it'll help you win games here and there but not like the Blues were pulling off. I think with the right guys and some better organization they could be a real powerhouse next year.
Mike: Sounds like you have a tremendous amount of respect for them?
Gregory: Of course I do! I have a lot of respect for all the teams and players. When it comes down to it all these teams are made up of guys doing their best. I have a ton of respect for that, trying your hardest to be the best of yourself is worthy of all the respect in the world!
Mike: Well Gregory it's been an honor to be able to sit down and chat with you. (Both men shake hands)
Gregory: It's been my pleasure!
Mike: Would you like to add anything before I leave?
Gregory: (Thinking for a moment.) Keep your eyes out for me! I plan on making it big here in the DSFL!
