Season 4 starts today and the first game of the week could be one of the best of the year. The Outlaws travel to Orange County and are underdogs? Man the league changes quick! With so many players moving around the league, it's hard to see what happens here. But the Otters are done living in the shadow of their division rival and now they have the personnel to do something about it.
The Yeti travel to San Jose in game 2. The Yeti are the unanimous worst team in the league and the SaberCats have something to prove. They want to be in talks for playoff contenders, but they'll have to wait to face a more serious opponent to get there. Until then they'll have to settle for beating up on the Yeti. Colorado fans...I'm sorry?
The Legion go to Philadelphia in a tale of two expansions. The Legion have been the laughing stock of the league for awhile but those dark days just might be behind them. They're unlikely to be a playoff contender this season, but they're not a free win anymore either. The Liberty have had a leadership change, but they're still the hungriest team in the league.
Finally, the Wraiths travel to Baltimore in what many expect to be a blowout. The Hawks look scary and have established dominance over the the NSFC over the last two seasons. The Wraiths are in an alleged "rebuild" and are just playing for fun this season, but there's got to be a little bit of bad blood for the Canadians who have had all the talent in the world but none of the playoff success.
This week we're getting thing started with the battle of the basement. The Legion and Yeti are both expected to be the worst teams in their conference. These teams follow different story lines as the Yeti fell from the top of their division after scandals and locker room issues caused many players to leave. On the other side are the Legion who were plagued with Vegas like scandal from inception. They're still committed to having fun but this team is trying to build some respect around their name. A loss to the Yeti, even on the road, won't help them with that.
Right after we're traveling to Philadelphia for a potential Ultimus preview as the Outlaws are hosted by the Liberty. Front runners to be the two best defenses in the league this should be a great match-up on the field! And to make the game more interesting there may be a bit of bad blood between these teams due to some recent stories coming out of free agency, we're excited for this one.
The Wraiths travel to Orange County to face the juggernaut Otters. The Otters look to be one of the best teams in the league and Wraith's new star QB Mat Akselsen will face off against recent linebacker convert and Angus Winchester. This game is full of star power and lots of new faces on both sides.
The game of the week will feature the Hawks hosting the SaberCats. The Hawks might just be the most consistent team in the league. They're complete on all fronts and have made it to the big game. This could be their year! The Sabercats have a ton of new faces and likely "won" free agency acquiring a franchise quarter back and one of the league's top linebacker talents. They also had fan favorite Vincent Sharpei convert to line backer to help bolster a struggling defense. Orosz struggled in Yellowknife despite having the league's top receiver, but with one of the best trios in the league in San Jose it's time for him to take his team to the promised land. There are a lot of story lines in this one, but if the Cats hope to have a shot at unseating the Otters or Outlaws a win here would go a long way.
Tonight's double header will get started with the Outlaws traveling to San Jose to play for the early season ASFC crown. The Sabercats look like the read deal right now, their team added a lot of pieces in the off season and the fans are ready for the playoffs. The Outlaws just keep on rolling and they don't plan on stopping in San Jose. A game that may have been a blowout in season 3 could be a good one in season 4. This should be an exciting match-up to get us started.
Next up the Hawks hosting the Yeti. There isn't much to look forward to here. The Yeti aren't very good and the Hawks are great at home. We're likely to see a blowout and Boss Tweed run until he pukes. The most exciting story line developing as we speak in Colorado where they appear to be having a QB change. Fuego Wozy, defensive end and pro bowler will be changing to QB. Where does this leave Pierno? We'll have to see as details come out.
Next we'll be heading to Vegas where the Legion are hosting the Wraiths. The Wraiths have been surprising thus far and the Legion are no longer the laughing stock of the league. This could turn into a good game between two teams in limbo. We have two new QBs, two of the league's premier receivers, and two running backs that have a lot to prove.
Week 3 will end with the Liberty traveling to Orange County. The Liberty are working through a tough stretch to get their season started and a win here would go a long way towards helping them repeat their playoff birth of season 4. The Otters might want to changed their name to the Orange County Upsets. Somehow they seem to find a way to lose games they should win in creative ways each week. Mike Boss pick in an overtime drive? Blowing a lead late in a game? Lets see what happens in this game that could be an underdog Ultimus preview.
Next up the Yeti are traveling to Las Vegas where they'll face the Legion for the 2nd time in three weeks. The Yeti lost the last match-up at home and will be hard pressed to find a win on the road. I would say this is their last shot, but with the shake-up at quarterback, they might be able to snag some wins down the stretch. The GMs should make this one interesting. Pierno and Ariel want to play together, winner takes the rights to both. Make it happen boys.
Finally the Liberty come to Arizona. Uh, they just played each other two weeks ago? Could we be any more excited for this match-up though? Knowing that these are two of the best teams in the league? Personal rivalries and tension are abundant in this rivalry. Hot takes aside these teams might be the two most likely to face each other in the Ultimus game. It would go a long way for Philly and its fans if they can prove they can beat the Outlaws. Liberty players want to win this one to make the best of their rough schedule. Liberty fans want this for trash talks alone. You want this because it's going to be some great football.
The Hawks come to San Jose with a heart breaking loss on their home turf fresh in their minds. The Hawks defend their home turf and the SaberCats came in and punched them in the mouth. San Jose needs prove their up to the task and defend their home. Sweeping the NSFC Champ favorites would send a message to the rest of the league that the SaberCats are for real.
Finally, the game of the week will feature the Otters traveling to Yellowknife. The Wraiths are truly a spooky enigma this season. Are they playoff bound or are they rebuilding? How does a team lose Josh Garden, Kevin Cushing, Chris Orosz, and Wyatt Fulton and appear to get better. The Otters need to get some wins. They've been out playing opponents and losing games and at the end of the day the only thing that matters is bringing home the W. If the Otters throw 5 picks and get the win I think they'll go home happy.
