Big Reg Mackworthy was the 1st Running Back taken in the draft.
From now until forever, Reg Mackworthy will hold the title of being the 1st ever Running Back drafted into the NSFL, when his name was called 7th overall by the Arizona Outlaws in the inaugural NSFL draft on Thursday. It was a monumental day not only for big Reg but also for the league and the Arizona franchise. Grabbing a player like Mackworthy with the 7th pick in the draft was the right move for Arizona as he instantly becomes the face of the franchise. Apparently Mackworthy #30 jerseys have already been flying off the shelves. Yes, most of the buyers are women ages 18-32 and yes we expect Reg to get a lot of ass this season. Ok back to football now.
Leading up to the draft Mackworthy made his presence felt around the league with a big press conference, some graphic work and taking part in other pressers as well. His name was definitely getting out there as one of the more active players in the draft. However, what really brought him to the forefront of the Running Back pool was his performance in the All American Bowl. Mackworthy shined in a huge performance, racking up 65 yards on 12 carries, including numerous bursts of 9, 10 and 11 yards. He was able to showcase his elite speed against the top competition in the league and he really stood out. His unique combination of size and speed was something that separated him from every other back in this draft class and had scouts drooling. One pro scout was even quoted as saying "Jesus Christ, did you see that beast Reg Mackworthy running over linebackers out there, I've never see anything like that, we could be looking at the most dominant player in the league right here." Another had stated "Holy shit this guy Reg Mackworthy is a fucking animal, I've never seen a 225 pound running back who has that kind speed or those kind of moves, in fact I've never seen another 225 pound running back anywhere, he's going to destroy defenses, god help them." No question some big praise for ol' Mackworthy but it's well deserved, he is a unique specimen out there.
Mackworthy is the current favorite to lead the league in rushing and concussions given out. He'll probably lead in touchdowns as well, he's that good. We're not being humble about his talent because we truly feel he will excel right out of the gate and set the bar for everyone to follow. If he's given the opportunity to shine in Arizona, they are going to win a lot of games and he's going to set some records. Yes, you heard it here first.
Arizona has put together and excellent team and Reg is not their only weapon on offense. They also have gun slinging quarterback Vincent Draxel who's projected to be one of the best passers in the league this season. No question he's going to stretch the field and open up some room inside for Reg to pound it up the middle. Along with skilled back up running backs Jack Durden, Michael Newman and Fernando Bessel, this Arizona ground game is looking very strong. Zona also has some deep threats with stand out wide receivers like King Bronko, Lincoln Jefferson, Wes Washington and Stormblessed along with tight end Joe Tkachuk. There's no question these guys can all pull down balls no matter how hard Draxel throws them. They also have a formidable offensive line with big houses like Jefferspin, Thomas and Sharp who should all open up some holes for Mackworthy and company. We expect the Arizona offense led by Mackworthy to be one of if not the most lethal in the entire league this season.
On the defensive side of the ball there is a ton of talent as well led by 1st round pick safety Maryan Jackson, who's expected to be one of the top DB's in the league. Linebacker Brady Stropko is looking like an absolute beast along with Jaylon Lee and Hariff Ernston, this unit should be a force. On the D line the outlaws are looking very strong also with Defensive end Jayce Tuck, Arbin Asipi, Luke Pierce and Dental Dam. The secondary is looking capable of shutting down the oppositions wide receivers led by the aforementioned Jackson along with Ryan Flock, Samuel Watson, Jason Williams and Isaiah Rashad. No question the Outlaw defense will be making some plays this season and helping the team to the championship.
Mackworthy and company are looking forward to the season and big Reg is really looking forward to showing why he is more than worthy of the 7th overall pick. The #1 Running back off the board, he's going to prove why was a steal at 7 and Arizona management was wise to select him when they did.
