Never mind aliens, have you ever tried explaining American football to Brits with no previous interest? DJ would take the skills he learned during these tough interactions, including the usual ‘isn’t it just weaker rugby’ or ‘why doesn’t the guy who caught the ball just throw it again’ and harness them to explain the game to extra terrestrial beings.
Now, presumably this will not be targeted at a known alien race, so the physiology details may not apply but it would start with an explanation of the protective gear used by humans when they play. Requirements may change, depending on who views the video, but as they say, safety first! Then it would become an instructional video, breaking down the rules, positions, phases of play, that kind of thing. And it would have examples to demonstrate the theory, as some humans are more visual learners, maybe some aliens are the same? It could be a combination of game film and walk-thrus filmed with the SabreCats.

My video to the aliens would start simple, explaining the rules and goals of the game. Think things like what a down is, how a play starts and ends, how you get more downs, how a drive ends, and how points are scored. Football is a weird game to explain to a brand new viewer, so there will have to be some built-in shrugs at certain questions (i.e. "what is a catch"). Next is moving on to describing positions and what roles they fill. For example, the quarterback is responsible for leading the offense, receiving the ball from the center, and either running it himself, handing it off to a back, or throwing it to a receiver.
My vision for the video would be to be something that is presented by somebody who can receive questions about it. Like I said before, football is a confusing game sometimes. It's natural that somebody who's not only brand new to football but also brand new to human culture would have questions even after a good explanation of the rules and positions.
Felix Waterman doesn't case to teach the the details of how a football game functions or the rules to the game in his viedo to the ETs. Alought he would would review some basic rules and positions so that everything is in proper context, teaching how the game works is not the point of his message. No one on any planet become a fun of a sport by simply knowing the rules. Felix Waterman wants the aliens to know why football is the multi million dollar industry it is. Basically it is him breaking down the most hype plays in ISFL and DSFL history. Not only explain how the plays work but also what makes these plays so special in the first place. A mix between a teaching documentary and a hype video in order my make these aliens excited about the game of football. If they are excited about the game, they will do much of the work of learning about it themselves.
Prompt Wrote:NASA has reached out to ISFL HO and have asked a representative from the league to make a video teaching extraterrestrial life the game of football. What kind of video would it be? Is it instructional, is it a mockumentary? Who else is in this video? What is your main message to E.T.'s? Describe it all! Football has been a major part of my life, and so I absolutely would want to make something that's informative. I see a football video as split into three major elements. First, it might make sense to include some amount of the history of the broader context of society, sports, athletics, and so on - I'm thinking that would probably be covered by some other video, but I think it's important to be explicit on how much background I'm assuming the viewers have. Then, explaining the rules of the game of football - the definition of the field, ball, downs, penalties, and so on. With those set up, I think then the last major area is the sport of football - explaining leagues, playoffs, teams, fans, and all that surrounds the actual games. That could again go broadly into the societal impact of professional sports, how the economy works and the incentives for teams/players/fans, and more - but it again could be a better setup to assume that the viewer will be somewhat familiar with how things generally work and to instead focus on the specifics of what impact the ISFL has. If it were me I would be using the entire Minnesota team demonstrate in a way that helps them understand. I would go ahead and first show them highlights from our games to first explain some of the rules. I would then take them on the field to give tips on how to play the game better. I would then take them on in a game. You can video tape it in some captain america fashion so Rick and Morty can take it around and show everyone else how to play on you know planets we've never heard of. I would then get all of the E.T's and make a mega tournament that has earthly coaches and see who wins the ET Cup. It would become universal. I would then have ET's take over as coaches when they become more advanced in knowledge of the game. We would become the biggest market even more than ISFL.
