The Kansas City Coyotes have bolstered their receiving core with one of the more interesting prospects coming out of college.
Pensacola, Florida’s DeAndre Green was claimed by waivers by the team over the past few days. The Florida Gator will be joining his new team in the coming days.
But who is DeAndre Green?
When it comes to his talent on the field, there’s no question Green has been one of the more athletically gifted talents to come out of Florida in recent years. He was among one of the top scouted high school players and really put himself on the radar with a 17 catch, 213 yards and 3 touchdown performance in his final game at that level.
Thanks to that performance, he landed a full scholarship to play football with the Florida Gators.
Unfortunately, Green struggled as a freshman, only managing to finish the season with 329 yards and no touchdowns.
However, Green would take that poor performance and use it as motivation during that offseason to ensure his sophomore season would be completely different.
The biggest change he made was going back to the basics and focusing on running routes. He was always one of the better route runners coming into College and wanted to once again make that the focus point of his training.
When he returned for his second season, he managed to recapture that spark and become one of the leading receivers in the country, going for over 1,500 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Unfortunately for his coaches, his success had an effect on his attitude which became a but of a problem on the field.
Green had become known around the college ranks as a player who tended to open his mouth a bit too much which landed him in hot water. He is also known to lose his cool and has been ejected for fighting during a game.
During his junior season training camp, Green would end up suffering a torn ACL, which would force him to miss the entire season.
After the season, and others were claiming their eligibility for the draft, Green had to make the decision about whether he wanted to play one more season in college or take his chances on a team wanting him despite the injury and only one good year in college.
Despite the deadline passing for the draft, Green decided to leave college and join the DSFL.
Kansas City would put in a claim for the talented wide receiver, but it remains to be seen what version of Green the team will be getting.
