After 13 games the Colorado Yeti are still without their first victory in S6. With only one game left, tonight they could make history by becoming the first NSFL team to go winless throughout an entire season. To avoid making history won’t be easy, as they host the current NSFC leading Philadelphia Liberty.
Denver city officials have confirmed that a group of Yeti fans have already secured a permit to hold a parade around the Yeti’s stadium in Denver. The permit covers a four hour span from 10am to 2pm local time on Sunday 3/18. The parade route was designed with special significance, it is a perfect loop around the stadium, resembling a 0 to honor the amount of wins the Yeti could end up with this season.
“I think we have every right to have a parade after this organization has given us nothing for the past three seasons,” parade organize Steve McNamara said. The movement for the “Perfect Season” parade has definitely gained some steam on social media and there appears to be a possibly significant turnout. Denver police have estimated as many as 5,000 people could attend the celebration.
Those who want to support the planning of the parade can donate to a GoFundMe setup by Steve McNamara. The proceeds will be used to pay for things like security, bathrooms, etc. Any excess funds in the GoFundMe account will be donated to local animal shelters in the Denver area.
The season has not gone according to plan for the Yeti who hoped to turn things around after a disappointing run. Last season the Yeti finished 2-12 and the season before 1-13. Their closest loss this season came in Week 10, a 3 point loss to the New Orleans Second Line. Of their other 12 losses, only 1 was also a one score game (Week 1, 7 point loss to Baltimore Hawks). Last week they visited the Wraiths in Yellowknife, however were trounced 66-6. In their Week 2 matchup at Philadelphia, the Liberty dismantled the Yeti to the tune of 41-14. Unfortunately for the Yeti, a win for Philadelphia will guarantee them home field advantage in the first week of the playoffs, so they will not be taking this game lightly.
Regardless of the outcome of this one game, many questions remain about the future of the Colorado Yeti. The message from the Front Office all season long has mentioned a big change coming at the quarterback position, however no one has any idea what that might be. It also remains to be seen how this possible quarterback change would affect embattled starter Nicholas Pierno. While the team does have arguably the best RB in the league and young playmakers in Carlito Crush and Dwayne Aaron, they have been unable to find any success offensively. Also despite having solid players defensively, they also rank last in every single defensive category. Although, that might be more of a reflection of the inefficiency of the offense rather than the skill level of the defense. While many questions remain, one thing must be certain, change is needed for this team to have future success.
Yeti fans hope to make Yeti ownership and management aware of their feelings with this parade. They hope to inspire the whole organization to make the moves necessary to make sure a season like this never happens again in Colorado.
