Ryan Applehort takes his Memorial Day seriously. Unlike some of his more immature teammates, such as Dwayne Aaron and Antonio Sandoval who'd rather party and shoot off fireworks, Applehort takes the flight down to his home town in Fort Worth and visits the Dallas-Fort Worth national cemetery to honor his late grandfather. His grandfather served in WW2, and lost a leg in combat. He passed away during the Ultimini game, where Applehort was taking the field against the Kansas City Coyotes. Applehort only learned of the news after the game, and took two weeks off his training regime to honor his grandfather. After visiting his grandfather's grave, he goes to his parent's house, which had gone through some renovations ever since Applehort's NSFL paychecks came in. He shared some time with his father for reflection and shared a beer with him. They had a nice, small family barbeque cookout, with Applehort inviting some of his good Texas friends over. They had fun and had hot dogs, but they all remembered why they got this day off. Applehort spent the rest of the week in Texas, flying down to Houston to see an Astros game and meeting with one of his favorite NFL players, J.J. Watt.
"Oh man. Memorial Day is always a weird day for me. Most of my family is vets, including both my mom and my dad. It's such a sad thing to talk about though, because both my mom and my dad were in war when they died. My dad was first, going into Iraq and having his army vehicle destroyed by a stray bomb in a field. My mom was devastated but eventually moved on, but I don't think I ever did. I was only 1 when it happened, so I never really knew my dad much and never really had one to call Dad. Then my mom met someone new, my stepfather, who I consider my real father. My mom and him married a year or two after meeting, when she decided to go back into the military to help out. She also died in Iraq because her camp was raided by radical terrorists out there. My stepfather was so damn devastated. He wasn't himself at all for a while after. Took a few years before he even started to come back to his normal self. Every Memorial Day though, we light two candles in honor of my mom and my dad and think about who they were as people. It's always terrible saddening but it helps us cope. It helps me cope."

Vision blurred and feeling the sweltering heat beating down on his body. How did Thad get here?
Flashback Pythons QB McCoy: Omaha, Omaha, gold 19, #37 Mark Grau shifts, Thad follows HIKE Inside Thad: shit this one is mine, McCoy is looking Grau's way, I know he's coming this way his eyes haven't left the left side of the field Fans: AHhahahahahahahahaha The whistle blows as Thad tilts his head up from the 2 yard line to see that he does not have the ball and Grau is inside the endzone getting piled on by his teammates. Flashback End Thad hasn't seen another human since he walked out of the stadium after losing the S7 Ultimini Championship. Thad didn't stop walking, he walked to his car hopped in and head back to Tijiuana. Prepared to be the first ever 2-Time Ultimini Champion Thad loaded up on the Tequila prior to the game, Thad was going to party. Shortly after crossing the Mexico-US Border Thad grabbed a bottle of Jose and began. As the S7 VW Golf TDI sputtered out of gas in the middle of the desert Thad grabbed his other 5 bottles and began his walk. Weeks later here we are, living on food he caught himself and mainlining Tequila Thad has been left as a shell of his former self. Lying in the hot desert sand Thad felt the heat from the sun leaving his body, as he opened up his eyes he could only see the silhouette of a man on a horse before he blacked out. Waking up to the cool feeling of a wet rag on his forehead, Thad instinctively called out for Mad. Upon realizing that he was not at home, Thad sat straight up and began looking for his belongings. Rushing out of the bedroom Thad ran into a beautiful young lady. He stopped dead in his tracks looked her square in the eyes and they both just stood there, until she finally asked him where he was head. Fumbling over his words, while trying not to sound as shitfaced as he still was, "wHAt day is it?" The young lady looked at him and said "Memorial Day." Thad about shat his pants. "Shhhhiiiiiiiitttt, I was supposed to report to camp days ago." She tilted her head and asked him "Camp?" Thad, "Yea, I play for the Tijuana Luchadores and Training Camp started days ago. I need to get back. Where are we at?" "About an 30 minutes South of my Precious San Antonio Marshalls. Wait did you say you play in the DSFL? You look familiar." She stated. "Why yes, yes I do play in the DSFL. I actually was apart of the S7 Marshalls Ultimini Championship team, but now I play for the rival Luchas." "Would you like a ride back to the border?" "Yes please I would love that. I'm sure my family and teammates are wondering where i've been, I need to get back to them." The Ad family's usual memorial day tradition is to spend it together getting prepared for the beginning of the football season. This season is the first where the Ad boys were going to be split up as Thad and Chad were back in Tijuana, while Brother Brad is up in San Jose.
This Memorial Day weekend was unlike any other in Trey Willie’s past. There was no celebrating, drinking, and partying. Instead, Trey found himself jetting back home after the news had broke of another school shooting had occurred in this broken country. This time though, this accident was right in Trey’s hometown backyard; a mere 9 miles from his childhood home. Although there were no reported casualties, there were still lives impacted and Trey felt this was his time to head back home and make a positive impact on his former neighborhood.
Upon his arrival, he was greeted by fans but this trip had a purpose as he streamlined his way out of the airport. Once home, he made time to speak on a regional radio shows, as well as speak on local news stations. He was then able to initiate a fundraising drive to help the families with the tragedy they had just faced. So far, the drive has managed to collect nearly $64,000 with Willie vowing to match the final donation amount collected. “I am truly blessed to be a part of the NSFL and this is my time to pay it back to the community that had such an impact on my life growing up”, Willie was quoted. He has extended his stay into the next week but with off-season wrapping up, he will need to head back to Baltimore soon.

Jaylon Broxton spends Memorial Day at a barbecue with former New Orleans Second Line teammate Borkus Maximus III. The two of them grill up a great many items for their various teammates who attend the event - Angus Winchester, Ardie Savea, Ian Bavitz, Payton Mills, Bradley Westfield, Darren Smallwood, Carlito Crush, Charlie Law, Jordan Yates, Dustin Evans, Mason Brown, and Blackford Oakes, just to name a few. Some of the items they grill are burgers, hot dogs, and corn while others bring things like cole slaw, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, french fries, and fresh fruit. After the eating is done the play some yard games like corn hole, lawn darts, croquet, and badminton. Once that part of the barbecue is done they start drinking, some lightly, some heavily. Payton Mills is known for getting the most drunk and always making a total ass of himself which is the only reason he even gets invited in the first place. Then Borkus Maximus III has to call him an Uber home which he is sure to throw up in. They hang out with each other until some time close to midnight before the party breaks up. It actually has to be that way because at midnight they become enemies again and all try to kill each other. The troops would be proud.
My memorial day is usually quite boring, but sometimes I get out there and do things. This memorial day was one spent with friends enjoying the beautiful weather. I was definitely fully clad in my American gear; the bro top, the bandana and the Murica sun glasses. While I'll never serve or be respected in that manner, I can at least show my American side.
I hung out with friends and played the traditional Memorial Day games of Kan Jam and Cornhole, got into a wrestling match and threw water in my friends face. It was quite eventful. We also grilled hot dogs and some heathen wanted turkey burgers, so those made an appearance even if they weren't ingested by this writer. The night ended with some table top games of Zombicide, where my trusty created sniper rifle paid off in spades and really helped save the night. We found a way to get all the goods and get the hell out of there despite it looking like we were going to die. To tie the night off, I walked my dog around the block to get him some fresh air and to clear my head. Also, there was beer involved. Duh.
My Memorial Day weekend was spent in the same places most days are: The weight room. Granted, I wasn't in there the entire day, but I can't let myself fall behind. In this league, that's as good as a cut. Fortunately, I was able to get back down south for the day, and find a plane ticket back to Yellowknife the next morning.
Besides that, however, my family had a small get together, and everyone got to see each other. We didn't have any fireworks, but we did have a cornhole tournament that I placed a somewhat respectable 4th place in. I can not say that I was disappointed, after all, my sport of choice is football, not cornhole. We did have a thanksgiving esque backyard football game though, and we won, obviously. I was not about to let that one slip away. But, by far and away, the best part of our day was the meal. Mama’s cookin and pa’s famous barbecue chicken were a sight to behold, and a taste to savor. Once it was all done, I retired early, as I had to get up early the next morning to catch my plane, but the trip let me unwind a bit and get to see family members that I do not get to see very often these days 221 [div align=center][SELECT style="background-color:black; color:cyan; font-family:Arial; font-size: 12px; width: 400px; "][br][OPTION]Zach Skinner || DE #94||Yellowknife Wraiths|| peak 544 TPE [OPTION]Info: 6'5", 300 lb, born in Memphis, Tennessee [OPTION]DSFL: Portland Pythons, Waivers, S6-S7 [OPTION]NSFL: Yellowknife Wraiths, 2nd Round Selection, S8-present [OPTION]=========================================== [OPTION]Carrer Stats: 332 Tackles | 38 TFL | 50 Sacks | [OPTION]S6, POR: 7 Tackles | 2 TFL | 0 sacks | Playoffs: 6 Tackles | 3 TFL | 1 Sack [OPTION]S7, POR: 31 Tackles | 12 TFL | 4 Sacks | Playoffs: 3 Tackles | 2 Sacks [OPTION]S8, YKW: 27 Tackles | 2 TFL | 4 Sacks | Playoffs: 3 Tackles [OPTION]S9, YKW: 27 Tackles | 7 TFL | 5 Sacks | 1 FF/1 FR [OPTION]S10, YKW: 27 Tackles| 10 TFL | 5 Sacks [OPTION]S11, YKW: 25 tackles| 6 TFL | 4 Sacks [OPTION]S12, YKW: 42 tackles | 0 TFL | 6 Sacks | 1 FF [OPTION]S13, YKW: 46 tackles | 0 TFL | 11 Sacks | 0 FF [OPTION]S14, YKW: 48 tackles | 0 TFL | 7 Sacks | 0 FF [OPTION]S15, YKW: 51 tackles | 0 TFL | 7 Sacks | 0 FF [OPTION]S15, YKW: 24 tackles | 4 TFL | 0 Sacks | 0 FF [OPTION]S16, YKW: 22 tackles | 9 TFL | 1 Sack | 1 FF [OPTION]=========================================== [OPTION]Trophy Case: [OPTION] S7 Ultimini Champion, S8 Ultimus Champion, S13 Pro Bowl, S13 Tied for 2nd in sacks lead
Memorial Day is another outing with the family. It’s a time to reflect on the people and loved ones we have lost in battles outside our land. We owe something, anything to these brave men and women who have risked and in some cases given their lives so that we may enjoy what some people call freedom. The old saying goes “Freedom isn’t free”. I couldn’t agree more. We pay a hefty price. In this day and age we have a thin veil of freedom as the government seems to overstep their boundaries inch by inch, day by day. Brad and his family like to go and visit memorials around the city, place flowers on graves, and just live freely. If he had not been drafted by the Orange County Otters Brad would most certainly be a military man. Brad has always seen himself as a true patriot even if he doesn’t believe in the current government. He is a man of the land and of the nation. He trusts the people and understands that more than one opinion can be correct. May the future babies of our nation know the injustices we have ourselves committed and learn from them and live full and rich lives in our great nation.
Gus T.T. Showbiz has a great respect for the military that fights to protect his freedoms and rights. He and his best friend, Shawn Spencer had the great honor and privilege to help the military in a meaningful way.
As you may know, Shawn and Gus run a psychic detective agency on the side, and one of their recent cases involved an apparent suicide of an army officer. Shawn and Gus discovered that the soldier was actually murdered, and there was a coverup attempt. Through a trial of their usual hoodwinks and shenanigans, they were able to bring the killer to justice, as well as stop an arms dealing plot. Gus and Shawn spent their Memorial Day celebrating the life and mourning the sacrifice of the brave soldier that perished to begin their investigation of the case. Were it not for this soldiers sacrifice, it might be possible that the arms-dealer wouldn't be caught, and his deadly arsenal of product would have found its way into enemy hands, causing more casualties. Gus and Shawn spent some time to honor all servicemen and women by touring the local Santa Barbara military cemetary and leaving flowers on the graves of all of the fallen.

One of my most favorite Memorial Day Weekend traditions is watching all three motorsports races that occur the Sunday before Memorial Day. While the three events are part of very different kinds of motorsports, the Sunday before Memorial Day allows me to really dive into all of the different racing series that exist around the world. First, I get up very early in the morning to catch the Formula One racing event at Monaco. This Grand Prix brings the best open wheel drivers in the world to Europe to race on the street course in Monaco. This year, Daniel Ricciardo won the race. It's always fun to start with a street course. Then in the afternoon, it's the Indy 500. The race, occurring at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana, is a marathon for America's best in open wheel, but it certainly is fun. As Danica Patrick hung up the helmet this year, Will Power took the victory. And lastly, the day ends with NASCAR's running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This year, the race was dominated start to finish by my favorite driver, Kyle Busch. All in all, I've watched all three races for about 5 years now, and I will continue to do so for many years to come.
