Interview with a fan: I interview @Mavfatha

1. You recently joined the NSFL, what was your first impression of the league?

I was really impressed with the league as I first joined. It's very similar to the PBE that I've grown used to so navigating around was simple, and I love that there are so many ways to start improving your player right out of the gate even as a post trade deadline create. It was also nice to see and get welcomed by so many of the guys and gals I know from other sites.

2. This is a popular question, how did your name originate?

My name is something of a tribute to one of the most famous D-Lineman in history, William "Refrigerator" Perry. The Freezer part of my name should be pretty obvious, but I took a bit more of a leap for the last name. Perry sounds like parry, and riposte is a move that follows a parry in fencing that I happened to remember off the top of my head. Plus it just sounded cool so I went with it.

3. What parts of your game would you like to improve before the draft?

I want to be able to enter and win a world's strongest man competition essentially. I'll keep up with the strength training until I'm able to push offensive linemen back into their own quarterbacks while setting the line nicely on running plays so there's nowhere for running backs to go. After that I'll try to work on my speed and agility drills to be able pursue the QB and other ball carriers, with occasional focus on endurance to be able to stay on the field for however long my team will let me be out there.

4. What's your score prediction for the Ultimus?

Hmmm that's a tough one for me as a new league member, but with the Hawks dominance this season I'll take them to win by a score of 28 to 17 over the Second Line

1. What have you thought of the Yeti organization and team?

They're a great organization who have done their best to make their team feel comfortable and at home. I love the organization.

2. Any idea where you will take Applehort this upcoming offseason?

You'll find out later... I've got a big announcement to make tomorrow early morning actually. And I think it's gonna be a big one.

3. What do you think of your team mates terrible accident?

It sucks, man. I know he missed a lot of field goals, and I know I wished that his legs would magically disappear one day, but... it’s just an unfortunate accent. What’s with Yeti players and bad, career changing accidents?

4. Who's your favorite WR, CB, and LB in the NSFL?

My favorite WR is Stormblessed. No explanation needed. My favorite CB is Dermot Lavelle because it’s fun to pull many pranks on him like swapping his milk with glue. My favorite LB is Austin Roenick because his name is fun to say.

New Talent
Since there aren't very many DSFL trades every season, instead of talking about a trade I want to talk about a player who was picked up and played their first game in the DSFL during playoffs, and that is Luke Boechler who started his first game against the Tijuana Luchadores monday night, but failed to see any minutes put up as he mostly rode the bench for the course of the game. Boechler is a generational talent at quarterback, and will likely be returning to San Antonio next season as they have a lack of depth at quarterback behind semi-active starter Zenyou Wozy. Adding a highly active and highly electric quarterback like Boechler who can put a lot of pressure on high octane plays will completely change the game style that San Antonio currently players which is is a slow and methodical (and boring to watch) rigorous grind towards the end zone. I can't knock the GM's there though, because obviously they did something very great with very little. Boechler fit in perfectly with the Marshals locker room, and could be a cornerstone of the team's success in the next few season's should they acquire him once again come draft day.

Playoff Predictions
The playoffs first round might have already happened but it's better late than never so whatever. I'm going to predict the NSFL one's because I think they are a lot close of match-ups then the DSFL will be. For the NSFC I predict that the Colorado Yeti pull off a Cinderella-esque victory over the top seeded Baltimore Hawks to advance to the Ultimus game in an absolute nail biter of a showdown that will see a generational battle at quarterback between the grizzled veteran in Baltimore with Avon Blocksdale and the fresh faced but low spirited rising prodigy in Colorado's Ryan Applehort. Over on the ASFC side, it's a quite clear result as the New Orleans Second Line pushes for their second title in franchise history with one of, if not the single best roster that this league has ever seen. It's now or never for the Second Line as their offensive core ages with a small number to bring in behind. In the finals I predict that we see New Orleans take a tidy win over the Colorado Yeti, despite the two teams being quite evenly matched in a lot of things. The Second Line are just too well rounded for the Yeti to stop.

Sit down with a Star
We sat down with star defensive tackle Sam Garrad of the Tijuana Luchadores who took a strong victory over the San Antonio Marshals this week to get to know him better.

Sam, how much of an impact do you think you had on your team's victory tonight?
Well, considering I didn't play I'm going to go with very little. It would have been nice to get on the field for at least one play, so I was pretty disappointing I couldn't join in the team's success.

Do you expect to take a more active role in this upcoming Ultimini game?
I want to say yes, but my past playing time is telling me the answer will probably be no.

What are your plans with your career? Are you looking to win titles, awards, set records, make money? What do you want?
I think the biggest draw for me right now is the pursuit of that Ultimus trophy. It's so important to me to find team success (and do it as a part of the team).

What's your favorite flavor of ice cream sandwich ever created?
I'm going to have to go with mint chocolate chip on that one chief.

Today I'm here with Sam Garrad of the Tijuana Luchadores, and he's gonna be asking me some questions to get to know me or something, but if you watch football right now you probably have already heard of Ryan Cobalt.

Ryan, how much of an impact do you think you had on your team's play tonight?
Well I like to think that every time I get out on the field it give it my best shot, and so it hurts to know that tonight not even my best was good enough. The talent group here is really strong, and I think we all gave it all we had.

How does it feel to still be in pursuit of an Ultimini birth?
It's intoxicating. You desire the win so much until you get it, and I still haven't [got it] so it's just as addicting to me to dream about it as it is to achieve.

What are your plans with your career? Are you looking to win titles, awards, set records, make money? What do you want?
The number one thing that I think about every day is winning awards and setting records, I want to be a Hall of Fame player through and through.

What's your favorite flavor of ice cream sandwich ever created?
Good old plain is the way to go for me.

2. Robbed - It's pretty clear that the Yellowknife Wraiths should've made the playoffs. I'm not entirely sure how the schedule works over here so maybe including strength of schedule and such the Otters were a better team, but looking at those final standings it's obvious that the Wraiths have more wins than the Otters and therefore should have been in the playoffs. Ok now I looked into it a bit more and the Otters lost BOTH of their head-to-head matchups with the Wraiths. Knowing that as well, it is even more egregious that the specters from wherever Yellowknife is did not make the playoffs over the team they dominated, the cute little animals from again I have no idea where Orange County is, you guys should really work on your team locations tbh. It also would have made for a more exciting playoffs with the Wraiths in them, as they have a killer passing attack led by QB Brad Pennington and WR Kegan Atwell, while the Otters had no particular standout performers relatively speaking. I think this clearly calls for the abolishment of all conference lines as the teams go into a free for all of chaos and madness which would have resulted in the playoffs as I have now described them above.

That Magic Moment - I didn't exactly see it happen because I happened to look away from my phone that was displaying the game on twitch and suddenly the screen was black, but the Pythons victory over the Seawolves was truly one for the ages. It was one of the few close games of either playoffs to begin with, and more importantly it had a nearly last second touchdown to put the Pythons in the lead. According to the game logs, it actually happened with 19 seconds left in the game, so not leaving much time for the Seawolves to recover. The touchdown was a pass from star QB J. Christ over to Peterson, and we also picked up the 2 point conversion to give us a 3 point lead such that a field goal would only tie the game. I'd like to say that my player Freezer Riposte contributed to this win somehow but considering his only listing on the stat sheet was for a too many men on the field penalty that is certainly not the case. The running game of the Pythons was the real story leading up to the final touchdown, as Christ struggled through the air overall but the tag team running back duo of Summer and Shady each averaged about 6 yards per carry; the ability to consistently pick up that kind of yardage is invaluable to a team.

3. Playoff Series MVP
I think the playoff series MVP of the Ultimus is Turk Turkleton of the Baltimore Hawks, he is one of the best kickers in the league. I think he was a big reason as to why the Baltimore Hawks were able to bring the hardware home this season, they had a strong line up and an incredible regular season. Coming into the playoffs we knew the Hawks were the favorites to win this season and other teams knew they had their work cut out for them. I think one of his biggest games was the finals where he was able to get both of his those extra points when the Hawks scored their touchdowns. The most impressive stat is that he was 5 out of 5 in his field goals (another reason why I think he is one of the best kickers in the league). He is a huge asset for the Hawks and made sure to get those extra points to secure the win. I don’t think players in his position get enough credit but they really are a special part of the team. He made huge plays when the team needed him and I’m happy he has something to take home for his excellent efforts.

4. Robbed
I think the team that got robbed out of the playoffs this season is the Yellowknife Wraiths. I haven’t been in this league for a long time but from what I’ve heard they deserved to be there especially after last season’s efforts. They missed getting into the playoffs by one single game this season which is quite the heartbreak for the team. I think the Yellowknife Wraiths should have made it above the two seed Colorado Yetis and could potentially get passed the otters. It was a huge upset for the Wraiths this season, I’m hoping next season they will be able to make some moves to be able to compete soon again, however there has been some rumors that one of their star players Dermot Lavelle has been contemplating retirement, hopefully that isn’t the case as he is a huge part of that roster. They finished the seasons 8-6 but it just wasn’t quite enough to get them where they needed to go, I think they are definitely headed into the right directions though. One thing I believe that cost them was losing to teams like San Jose and Arizona throughout the season hurt their record and they were unable to get back into the groove after starting their season very poorly.

The Yellowknife Wraiths failed to make the playoffs despite carrying a better record than the ASFC’s Orange County Otters, who did make the playoffs. The Wraiths are victims of a tough NSFC, and a league that lacks a wild card, because they were one of the top teams this season despite their position. Meanwhile the Otters limped into the playoffs as a struggling team, and couldn’t offer much challenge to the strong NOLA team. The Wraiths absolutely destroyed the Otters in both regular season matchups, and they also split the season matchup with NOLA. There’s a lot of evidence that Yellowknife was more deserving of the Otters playoff spot, and perhaps it is time the league took a look at introducing a wild card in the future. The Yellowknife Wraiths would most certainly advocate for the introduction of one, but unfortunately for them it couldn’t work retroactively. Imagine if we had the chance to see Yellowknife vs Orange County to decide who got the 4th playoff spot. This method gives assurance that the best teams will be in the playoffs, and the best teams will be competing for the Ultimus! Maybe next season we’ll see a wild card, but then again, the league may have already considered this option unappealing.

Root for the Underdog: Pick an away team in an upcoming game and try to convince yourself (and us) why they can win

Not sure if the Portland Pythons are considered the underdogs or not, they definitely should not be, but I am going to write about why they can win anyways. Yes, I know they barely squeaked by the trash Seawolves while Tijuana absolutely demolished the Marshals, and I know Tijuana had the most wins in the regular season. But what you are missing there is the fact that Portland has the most clutch QB in the league and the bust RB duo in the league. Christ is the Tom Brady of the NSFL, if you don't believe me just go back and watch that final drive. Down by 4, leading his team down by 4 points, and you lead your team all the way down the field to score a TD, including throwing the clutch touchdown pass with less than a minute left to go, you have to be considered an elite QB in crunch time. Combine that with the Shady Summer RB duo that cannot be stopped, only contained, then you have an offense that is unstoppable. Portland also boasts an elite shut down defense that features Mbanefo, Becker, and other elite shut down guys, the defense can not be scored on either.

New Talent: Write about which S9 trade will or did have the biggest impact in the playoffs. Can be written at any time depending on if you choose to write about who already has or who will do good


The Carter Bush trade that the Philadelphia Liberty and Baltimore Hawks completed, a rental of sorts, easily had the biggest impact in the playoffs. This trade took the Hawks from a great team, to the best team. In a trade that was heavily discussed by the media and fans alike, as to whether or not it should have been allowed by the league is still a hotly debated topic. Some say that rentals should have no place in the league and HO should put their foot down, while others say that as long as both teams know the terms than it is fine. In the championship game, Bush had 7 receptions for 102 yards and a TD. In a very close game it is likely that the Hawks would not have won without his contributions. The Hawks will be losing him this offseason however, and with another season of father time wearing down on not only the Hawks, but the Second Line too another team has a chance to come in and win their own ring. This upcoming season has a great chance to see a brand new matchup in the playoffs, perhaps the old guard of the Outlaws or Otters will resurge back, or maybe a newcomer like the Yeti will rise up and make their own name in the history books.


Unsung Hero:Who was the unsung hero of the playoffs, convince us. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game)

The unsung hero of the National Football Simulation League has to be the Baltimore Hawks Defensive End Arbin Asipi Jr. While Arbin Asipi Jr did not have any stats in the game vs the Colorado Yeti in the NSFC Championship game, he did have somewhat of a presesence, taking up 2 or more blockers as well as getting in pressure on Ryan Applehort. For the Championship game though, Arbin Asipi Jr was a huge force. In the first half he had a big sack on Borkus Maximus the third that would end the New Orleans Second Lines drive. In the 2nd half Arbin Asipi Jr had huge tackles and TFL on both Borkus Maximus the Third as well as Darren Smallwood, a former rival of Charles Arthur Chess, a old teammate of Arbin Asipi Jrs dad, Arbin Asipi, from his time on the Arizona Outlaws. One could argue that without Arbin Asipi Jr on the field, making the big time plays in the big time moments, it would be the Second Line hoisting the Ultimus trophy, their 2nd and back to back time winning it. Thankfully for Baltimore, Arbin Asipi Jr was on the field and did make the big time plays in the big time moments.

Going to Disneyland!:Who was the Ultimus MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game)

Okay so you've heard of Disneyland, one of the biggest attractions that Florida has to offer besides aligators and crazy ass people. Now you've also probably heard of Avon Blocksdale QB of the Baltimore Hawks that just won the Ultimus trophy in season 10 of the National Simulation Football League. Put these two together and what do you get? Nothing much actually. Avons a pretty boring guy and someone who doesn't do much. You can trust me I've been sharing a locker room with this boring ass bum for a few seasons now, and besides some trash talk that I can't say on here because it'll get him blacklisted from the league, he doesn't say or do much. He gets us hyped for a game like a good leader should, but he's not someone you see in the headlines a lot. So when he went to disneyland it was not anything too crazy, he went on a few rides, talked to a few people took some pictures. But mostly he just hung out with his wife and let his kids run wild. Avon Blocksdale is a family man like that, and we're all proud of him for being the way he is. You love to see it.
