Robbed: I don't really thin that it is possible to say that one team did or did not deserve to make the playoofs, as all the teams that made it had pretty good seasons with talented rosters, but one could certainly argue that the Yellowknife Wraiths missing the playoffs was absolute highway robbery. The Wraiths got pretty unlikely and were definitely a playoff team on paper this season. While I do not think that the Wraiths are better than the Yeti, they might have been able to beat out Colorado or Orange County to sneak in for sure. The Wraiths even had a better record than the Otters, but due to the divisions, the Wraiths ended up missing out on the playoffs. The Wraiths went 8 and 6 this season, one win better than the Orange County Otters' 7 and 7. The Wraiths even ended the season with a better point differential than the Otters. The Otters lucked out with their division this season and snuck in, at the expense of ruining the Wraiths' solid season in which they probably should have been playoff bound. Hopefully next season the Wraiths can rebound after this one and make the playoffs, despite the losses they will be suffering on the roster

New Talent: At the trade deadline this season, the Baltimore Hawks made a pretty big trade by acquiring talented Wide Reciever Cater Bush. In exchange for Bush, the Hawks sent the Liberty their third round selection in the draft to downgrade to a fourth round pick in order to acquire Bush. The Liberty would also be retaining his salary for the rest of the season in order to alleviate cap problems for the Baltimore Hawks. It was well known that Bush was going to opt out of his contract to return to the Liberty after the season, so of course the Liberty would not get a great return. The Hawks hoped that this one year rental would be enough to put them over the top to win the Ultimus Bowl, bringing greatness to Baltimore. In addition to star wide reciever Trey Willie and solid second reciever Budda Browning, Bush gave the Hawks a truly elite recieving core by haveing thow bomafide stars and a solid third guy. Carter Bush ended up being a really excellent addition for the Baltimore Hawks as he really helped drive their offense and led the recieving core in many games. Carter Bush had some great playoff performances which helped the Hawks make a deep run this season. The addition of Carter Bush was definitely a great one for the Baltimore Hawks and was definitely worth downgrading from a third to a first.

That Magic Moment

Mid way through the fourth quarter against the 9-5 Colorado Yeti, The 13-1 Baltimore Hawks found themselves clinging to only a six point lead in the NSFC Championship game. With both teams seeming to move the ball at will, it really seemed as whatever team slipped up first was going to be the team that would doom themselves. With just under ten minutes left to play, Yeti Quarterback Ryan Applehort, made a decision he would soon come to regret. As he scrambled to buy time in the pocket, he fired across his body and Hawks defender Vikian Marmeladov was there to make him pay. Taking it back to the house 63 yards, this put the Hawks up 2 scores. Applehort quickly responded marching the Yeti down the field and once again making this a 6 point game with under 7 to play. What happened next is the true Magic Moment from this playoff game.

The Hawks got the ball back with 6:43 left at their own 33. Blocksdale and company then went on a 58 yard drive that chewed 5 minutes and 36 seconds off the clock en-route to a Turk field goal that made the game a two possession game once more, and would ultimately be the demise of the Yeti.

It's difficult to really argue that the playoff teams this year were not deserving, or that there was a team on the outside looking in who should not have been. But, you can make a strong case that the absence of the Yellowknife Wraiths from the playoffs was almost solely because of a single freak result.

Some might think the loss in Colorado in week thirteen was the nail in the coffin, as a win would have seen the Wraiths into the playoffs. However, it was the week eleven blowout in San Jose that was the true hammerblow. Brad Pennington, who threw just twelve interceptions all season, threw four in that one game. On the flipside, Akselsen, deep into his end of career decline at this point, threw for four touchdowns and rushed for a fifth; given that Akselsen accounted for twenty touchdowns all season, this was entirely one quarter of his production. In one game.

Had the Wraiths not been stung by this shock result, the defeat in Colorado would not have mattered -- they would have won the head to head tiebreaker on point differential. So can we really say that their seven point loss in Colorado was the decisive factor? More than this shock result in San Jose?

Championship Game Recap
In what will surely go down as a classic between one of the best defenses and one of the best offenses in NSFL history, the result ultimately came down to the efforts of the Baltimore defense against the Second Line's offense on the latter's final drive of the game. After Turk Turkleton's punt went for a touchback, New Orleans started on their own twenty yard line. A solid rush, and a short pass to Paul DiMirio gave them another set of downs. The next four plays effectively decided the game, as the Hawks pass rush meant the Second Line couldn't gain a single yard. A dropped pass from Ardie Savea on 3rd and 11 put New Orleans in a tough spot. 4th and 11, and they had to go for it. Smallwood took the hand off and made his move, only to be brought down by Clifford Rove after just five yards. With the ball back in their possession and just over two minutes left on the clock, it was up to the Hawks to protect the ball and keep the clock ticking. Owen Taylor rushed for three yards on two attempts, and it looked as though the Second Line might just be able to force a punt for one last shot, when Jayce Tuck was called for a penalty, giving Taylor a chance at 3rd and 2. He took it, and with that, Baltimore were able to close out the game, winning their first Ultimus.

I specifically think this postseason specifically was awesome to watch, as a fan and as a player in a fairly big way. As a fan, while I basically was disappointed in the result of the playoffs, I essentially do definitely think that it definitely was actually great to for the most part watch in a generally big way. Watching the Hawks really raise the Ultimus trophy particularly was awesome to see, actually contrary to popular belief. You know what's super embarrassing? When you're a user team and you don't make the playoffs because a robot team took your spot. It's what happened to the Kansas City Coyotes when the Seawolves took their playoff spot. As funny as it is, I still think it's dumb a bot team can make the playoffs vs a user team. I understand the need for two bot teams or it would be boring to always play the same other three teams (I guess) but when you have active people, actual people, on a team, I don't know, they should be able to beat the bots more easily. The league is supposed to be fun for the users, and failing to qualify because a team with no humans on it had one more win than you sucks. I know the Coyotes were absolutely shitty this season but they were before the two bot teams in all the stats. It was a matter of being unlucky during particular matches, I guess but in general, the Coyotes had a (even slightly) better season than the Solar Bears AND the Seawolves and that's why I think they deserved better than what they got. I'm not sure they would've given a performance as good as the Seawolves' against the Pythons, but still, user teams deserve to be in the playoffs.

One team that was robbed from making the playoffs this year was none other than the Yellowknife Wraiths. They traded away Mat Akelsen and brought in a younger quarterback in Brad Pennington, finally reuniting the Penningtons. They also added, Tegan Atwell to their offensive weapons, hoping to bring another deep playoff run to Yellowknife. Atwell paired up very nicely with Eric Kennedy and Bailey Cook, but for some reason, Yellowknife just could not click on all cylinders throughout the year. Their slow start, losing their first 3 games to Baltimore, Arizona and New Orleans respectfully is what probably caused their downfall. Or we can look further down the road, and look at their away game at San Jose in Week 11, a sure win for the team, and they just couldn’t pull it out. Yellowknife should have been in the playoffs, especially since Colorado has imploded this off season, and rumors have been circulating that even before the season, very few players of Colorado even bother to show up week in and week out to train anymore. This season was Yellowknife’s to lose and if anything, they robbed themselves of going to the playoffs this season. It’s looking like it will be a cold winter in Canada this year.

Series MVP:

The Playoff Series MVP of the Ultimus is none other than Famous Kicker, Turk Turkleton of the Baltimore Hawks. Turk is hands down the reason why the Baltimore Hawks were able to beat the New Orleans Second Line to claim Baltimore’s first ever Ultimus Trophy in season 10 of the NSFL. Turk is the undisputed hero and MVP for Baltimore and for good reason. He made both of his extra points when Baltimore scored touchdowns, but that is damn near a given for this man, instead, what’s more important is the fact that he went 5/5 in Field Goals. He hit one from 29, one from 20, one from 28, one from 40, and the last one from 33 yards away. Turk was on fire throughout the whole Ultimus, even punting well, averaging 41 yards a punt on 4 punts. Turk did everything that he needed to do to insure his, and Baltimore’s first ever Ultimus win. Without Turk Turkleton, I do not see the Baltimore Hawks beating New Orleans this year. Everyone in Baltimore must be praising the man, the myth, the legend Turk, and this game bolsters the fact that Turk is the best kicker in the league.

The Most Valuable Player of the Erie County Otters versus the New Orleans Second line was undoubtedly Borkus Maximus III. Maximus didn't have the best game of his career, but showed up when and where he needed to. Maximus threw for 236 yards and a single touchdown, but that's all it would take. He was 26 of 46 through the air, and connected with 7 different pass catchers. The of with the most impact was of course the one thrown to Darren Smallwood for the go ahead and eventual game winning touchdown.

But Maximus wasn't just good in the air, he also showed his ground game off a bit. He rushed seven times, for 44 yards. His longest was longer than his running back Smallwood's longest run, and had a better average on the ground with 6.3 yards per attempt.

He also converted a 4th and 7 with just 26 seconds remaining in the half to give the Second Line a shot at another score. While that didn't pan out, it did keep the ball away from the Otters for the rest of the half.

Maximus played a good game, better than anyone else on the field. He wins the MVP for the game and series.

The Championship game between the New Orleans Second like and the Baltimore Hawks was a doozy. This game had everything you could want, and really showed what NSFL football is all about.

New Orleans came out to a big 10 to zero lead, but the Hawks wouldn't give up easily. They scored a touchdown just 2 and a half minutes after New Orleans did to bring the game within three. New Orleans would score a quick touchdown in the second quarter, but would be answered by THREE field goals by Turk Turkleton, bringing the Hawks within a single point.

Turkleton wasn't done there. He put up another field goal in the third, and another in the fourth quarter. While Trey Willie and Avon Blocksdale did help by finally giving the Hawks another touchdown, it was closed out by the last field goal.

Maximus put up another valiant effort with three touchdown passes, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Hawks. The Second Line had a difficult time converting on third down, and penalties definitely played a part in their loss, with 5 flags for 45 total yards.

While both teams played hard, it was definitely the Hawks night. Congratulations on the Ultimus trophy Baltimore!

The underdog of this entire NSFL playoffs was undoubtedly Turk Turkleton. MVPs are always awarded to the quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs, but Turkleton put this team on his back and they rode him to this Ultimus trophy.

Turkleton carried a good share of the load when the Baltimore Hawks took on the Colorado Yeti. He made four extra points, and made good on three of four field goals. He nailed one from 28 yards, on from 39 yards and his longest at 41 yards. He did miss another 41 yarder, but accounted for 13 of the Hakws 37 points. Oddly, Avon Blocksdale was named the Offensive Player of the game, simply for throwing 2 touchdowns.

Turkleton also carried the team in the championship game. In winning this game 29 to 23, Turkleton accounted for 17 of the team's 29 points. He knocked home 5 field goals. His first from 29 yards, his second from 20, his third from 28, his fourth from 40 and his last from 33 yards away.

While Borkus Maximus III got the nod as the Offensive Player of the Game, it truly belongs to Turkleton. Without him and his clutch foot, the game looks very different as the Hawks could not make trips inside the 30 yard line count for very much.

TASK 2 - Playoff Series MVP

The MVP of the Ultimus is none other than yours truly, Avon Blocksdale. Playing his last game at the quaterback position (which is obviously a surprise to many) Avon shed the choker label for ever. Avon was incredible in the game. He dropped back to pass 41 times. In those 41 drop backs he was able to elude the rush on almost all of them, avoiding the defenders to be sacked only once. In the 40 times he passed he completed 27 passes. The most impressive though is that those 27 passes went for three hundred and eighty three yards. Thas good for over 14 and a half yards per attempt. Avon was an absolute monster spreading the ball around. Carter Bush had 7 catches for 102 yards and a TD, Trey Willie had 7 catches for 91 yards and a TD, Verso L'Alto had 6 catches for 44 yards. Budda Browning had only 5 catches but for an insane 130 yards. Avon lead the Hawks in an absolutely masterful performance, out dueling Borkus Maximus in a great QB duel and match up.

For Avon this meant a lot. He had previously been 0-3 in Ultimus games and the Baltimore Hawks had long been labeled chokers. No longer. 208

TASK 3 - New Impact

The Baltimore Hawks were completely loaded on Offense. They are led by three perennial Pro Bowlers and future Hall of Famers (Trey Willie, Owen Taylor, and Avon Blocksdale). They have a young Tight End who is probably the best in the league (Verso L'Alto). They have a multiple time pro bowler and absolute speed demon, Budda Browning. And they have two young Dynamic Rookies in Declan Harp and Vinnie Valentine. So why did they trade for a Rental like Carter Bush? "The price was just too damn good to pass up." The Hawks had a bunch of options in their offense, but the number 1 receiver for them in the playoffs was shockingly new acquisition Carter Bush who developed immediate chemistry with Avon. Carter Bush led the Hawks in receiving yards in the NSFC championship game, and led them in catches in the Ultimus. He Caught 6 catches for 78 Yards to help the Hawks beat the Colorado Yeti to advance to their fourth Ultimus Bowl. Carter Bush wasn't done there though. He wanted to make sure the Hawks were able to be victorious. The former (and now current) Liberty was a monster in the Ultimus. He caught 7 balls for over 100 yards. Carter had his biggest play of the day in the first quarter when he took a slant route 33 yards from Avon all the way to the house.

Carter Bush's stint on the Hawks was very short, he only joined the Hawks in Week 9, but they didn't Bring on Carter Bush for the regular season. They brought him in to dominate in the playoffs and help them win a title. That is what wound up happening, and the General Managers of the Hawks (Iam Essellemm and Manic Mav have to be ecstatic with themselves for it). 301

TASK 4 - Magic Moment

With two minutes and twenty seven seconds left on the Clock the New Orleans Second Line faced a brutal 4th and long. Borkus Maximus the third had just thrown a pass to Ardie Savea and it was dropped. This whole down and distance he was under pressure, having to throw the ball away on first down to avoid a sack, and then on a designed QB run Borkus was stuffed for a loss of a yard by the GOAT Arbin Asipi Jr. Borkus and the offense now faced a touch decision. New Head Coach Bayley Island faced a tough decision on which play to call. The Second Line were in Hawks territory, at midfield and needed a first down to be able to keep the drive alive to go for a touchdown. They called the play to the line and were lined up in the classic shot gun spread formation. Darren Small Wood in the backfield. Paul DiMirio at tight end. Charlie Law, Mayran Jackson and Alexandre LeClair were split out wide. Borkus dropped back to pass, and stunningly handed the Ball off to Darren Smallwood. Small Wood had a little hole and was off but Nickle Corner Back managed to break free from the Jackson Block and hit Smallwood, wrapping him up short of the first down. It was a gain of 5 yards. They were 11 yards short. On 4th and 11 the Second Line called a Draw to the running back. Avon comes on to the field and is ecstatic. The Hawks can run out the clock. Back to back runs by Taylor on first and second down net only 3 yards but then the long time Hawk Rival and classic cheater Jayce Tuck was penalized. This left 3rd and 2 and Owen Taylor plowed ahead for a gain of 3 yards. Firs Down Hawks. Game Over. Ultimus Over. Hawks are champions. #CawCaw @Beaver @bovovovo 316
