Let's talk a little about one of the week three match-ups, and how it was an incredibly surprising outcome. I'm of course speaking of how the Yellowknife Wraiths topped the New Orleans Second Line by a score of 41-31. The fact that the vaunted Second Line defense even gave up forty one is surprising enough. This may be where Fyodorovich switching from wide receiver to corner hurts your football team. Yes, he'd done great as a play-maker on offense, but you undoubtedly miss his play-making on defense. Next, throw in the fact that close to consensus number one quarterback in the league, Borkus Maximus III, threw three interceptions in this game. Considering that he is currently averaging just one interception per game, that is quite an uptick in turnovers. Meanwhile, Bork's opposite number, Brad Pennington, had a great game. He may have thrown for less than two hundred yards, but his three passing touchdowns and no interceptions really helped Yellowknife wrap this game up. Obviously, any part time football fan can tell you that if you turn the ball over and your defense doesn't play well, you're probably going to lose. I just seems unlikely that the currently 4-9 Wraiths could have put together a good enough game to beat the 10-3 Second Line.

I think the biggest surprise outcome this season happened in Week 6. Baltimore hopped on a jet and headed to Philadelphia to face the Liberty. After finishing 0-14 in Season 10, the Liberty, much improved, had already put 2 wins together. The Liberty entered 2-3, while the Hawks entered with a dominant 5-0 record. The Hawks were huge favourites, even on the road and even with an improved Liberty team. What happened was definitely a shock to the NSFL.
When the ball kicked off, it was clear the game was going to be special. The Hawks didn't start on time, while the Liberty were ready to play the game of their lives. In the first half, the Liberty jumped out to a 21-0 lead, stunning Baltimore the whole way. The Hawks finally got on the board with an Owen Taylor touchdown, but it was met with a field goal by Philadelphia to give them a 24-7 halftime lead. Most people still expected Baltimore to wake up and take over in the second half, but the Liberty defense held their ground. The Liberty put up 2 more field goals and stopped the Hawks from getting any points until 5 minutes left in the game, when the Hawks got their second touchdown. The Liberty completed the surprising win by a score of 30-14, handing the Hawks their first loss of the season. It was a balanced attack by Philadelphia, picking off Baltimore quarterback Ryan Applehort two times and the offense putting up 423 yards of offense. Marquise Brown was a star, rushing for 118 yards and two touchdowns. To me, this was the most surprising outcome of Season 11. (277 words)
One outcome that I think was very unexpected this season is how well the Colorado Yeti have performed despite all the recent changes. When you take a team that had what they had and rip to the ground, you expect player morale and likewise their performance to be subpar, but somehow the Yeti have still managed to give us an extremely entertaining season to watch. I think there is a lot to be said about what the management is holding onto out there in the mountains, and while the loss of Dwayne Aaron next season will without a doubt be a massive blow for the team once again, I think the team is completely set to recover from it. I guess it can all be explained by looking at what they still have left, and that is without question the most valuable part. Howard Miller and Micycle McCormick have hit it off completely, and the two don't seem to be strangers at all. Their play is just amazing and they have been one of the only reasons that the Yeti are still in contention right now. If they can keep it up, Colorado might be able to make a miracle Cinderella run.

The most surprising outcome would have to be when the Philadelphia Liberty won the Ultimus Championship in week 6. That would be the only logical reasoning behind they excessive celebration after a victory. I am not sure why the site banner hasn’t been changed at this point. That’s the only explanation I can come up with unless the Liberty are the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NSFL. You put so much emphasis on a single game that the rest of the season doesn’t matter and can just be discarded.
This reminds me of another surprise outcome that involved the Baltimore Hawks. This one occurred all the way back in week 10 of S4 when the Hawks traveled to Colorado to face the winless Yeti. A little foreshadowing, their streak was about to end. In a very subpar performance, Nicholas Pierno led his team to a 20-12 victory preventing a winless season and dashing the playoff hopes of the Hawks simultaneously. Looking back, maybe Baltimore just has a knack for losing seemingly important midseason games to shitty divisional teams. One thing is for certain, they are headed to the playoffs in what is sure to be another disappointing finish to what was once a hopeful season.

I'd have to say that our upset over the Baltimore Hawks in week 6 was my favorite upset of the entire year, although many could say that basically any of our wins could be considered upsets based on where we finished last season. For me though it has nothing to do with the whole "blah blah hawks suck/dur hurr libtards stupid" circle jerk that players on both sides like to sit around and fellate one another with on a daily basis. No, rather the reason I liked this upset was simply for the fact that it showed just how much we had grown as a team and as an organization and it was a good example of what I had in mind when trying to build the team. First and foremost I think a lot of the credit has to go to our defense on this one. We were able to make Ryan Applehort uncomfortable all day and while we were only able to sack him one time, we were able to put enough pressure on him and make enough bad throws or check downs that he wasn't able to adhere to the normal game plan for them. On top of that we were able to pick him off twice. Also our offense was able to run wild, amassing 189 yards at a 4.5 clip as a team. Falconi was also masterful, not turning over the ball and instead picking up key chunk plays that allowed us to move efficiently down the field.
