While I love playing wide receiver, it's natural to think about playing other positions on the football field. As a wide receiver, you go up against cornerbacks every play. Their job is tough because they have to shadow this receiver who knows what route he's running. Wide receivers are at a big advantage because of that, but that's why being a top cornerback is so valuable. That's the position that I'd like to try out.
I think there's something special about playing a position where the coach trusts you shut down another player straight up. You're lining up against the team's best wide receiver and expected to shut him down. You don't know where he's going to run, when he's going to cut, but if your instincts are on point, you can shadow him and render him obsolete. Also, there's gotta be a thrill to catch the quarterback's pass when it's his job to avoid you. You jumped the route and burned the quarterback for a big turnover. There may not be as much glory in the position, but man can you turn the game around. Being a wide receiver, you really appreciate the job cornerbacks have to do. In a different life, maybe I'd be the guy on the other end of the football.
Having created recently, I had thought about a couple other possible positions. Defense interests me a bit more than offense, so I was leaning that way when looking at positions. I nearly made a defensive tackle instead of a defensive end. I wasn’t too wild about any of the tackle templates, but I probably would have gone with balanced or maybe interior rusher. As it is, I went with end.
If I were creating a second player, I would be looking at offense. Another position I considered when I was creating was tight end. It’s not a glamorous position, but a good tight end can be very valuable to a team. They can contribute in a lot of different ways, which I really like. I would probably go with a balanced tight end. I would want him to be able to block well, but also be able to catch passes reasonably well. That sounds like a balanced build more than the others. It’s not a player type that will show up on the stat sheet too much. A bit more than a pure blocking tight end, but not quite as much as a vertical threat or possession guy. Still, seems like the type of player a coach would really want on their team.
I would definitely change Danny Grithead's position back to Running Back. While in the Developmental Simulation Football League, Danny Grithead was a really good player. He exemplified the best type of football player you want: a football guy. Grithead was a real scrappy, gritty player. He constantly hit the gym to become faster and made sure he carried the ball everywhere securely off the field so that he would never fumble. He was a real pro's pro, a coach's son, and also a deceptively quick player. Grithead loved playing running back and you know he and D'Pez Poopsie are still getting carries and scoring touchdowns up in running back heaven. Unfortunately, Danny Grithead had to change his position to safety when he was drafted by the Orange County Otters with the 6th overall pick of the Season 10 draft. So, Grithead no longer gets carries and instead has to watch Ricky Adams steal all the touchdowns and probably be running back of the year. Oh well, Grithead is a part of the fanta curtain of the Otters defense and gets to be a key part of the league while also filling a need for the team which already had this stud Ricky Adams ready to be the running back of the future and present.
I think it is too early to consider in any way, shape, or form to contemplate changing David's position so I would have to go with a new player and I would choose a Wide Receiver. Specifically a Wide Receiver like Wes Welker, a smaller guy who gets by on agility and intelligence, but can do all types of things on the football field, including throw a pass or two if needed. In my opinion, this would give any team a versatile weapon who could create match up nightmares and cause havoc on the field. I love this type of player who can do so many different things and I really enjoy having a player that plays a very intelligent style of play, with the option of running some Wide Receiver option routes and find the holes in the defense and take advantage of them. This is the type of player whom I'd love to make as my second player and whom I think will do quite well in this league. This is a player whom I will enjoy having a lot and will hopefully get a long and successful career out of this player after having a very talented Line Backer.
