Lately there’s been a lot of discussion regarding rule III, E, 4; the rule on un-retiring. It states: “Players have up to 72 hours after their retirement to reconsider. Should they retract their retirement, they must pay a 20% TPE penalty before being re-entered into the sim”. This rule is good in theory, stopping mass-retirements, rage retirements, or anything else regarding retirement that can severely damage teams. However, under this rule, if someone were to post an innocent joke retirement (in the OFFICIAL RETIREMENT section), they’ll be subject to a 20% tpe loss if they want to un-retire. This is a major flaw that needs to be addressed, as this is lumping in the simple shitpost with actual bad behavior such as rage-retiring.
This is my proposal; “Players have up to 12 hours after posting their announcement (in the official retirements page) to un-retire. If they choose to do so, they’ll be fined 5% of their TPE. If a player chooses to retire after the 12 hour grace period, they will then be fined 20% of their TPE.”
This is a better rule than the original for numerous reasons. For one, this seperates the joke from the rage retirement in a crucial way. It’s clear that posting a joke retirement page is breaking a rule; it causes impedence and confusion with the updaters, simmers, and GMs. However, a joke should be no where near the severity of a rage-retirement, mass-retirement, etc. Which is why if they don’t un-retire before the 12 hour grace period, it should be treated as a serious offense, and they should be docked 20% of their TPE. If a joker makes a post, they’re bound to un-retire before 12 hours. A rager however most likely wouldn’t, which is why the 12 hour grace period works.
It’s also important to note the retirement section as a whole. As it is right now, there’s nothing stopping someone from posting a fake retirement in that page. No one’s going to scour the rulebook to see if they can post a joke or not, which is why there should be some form of warning thread that warns people of the cost of un-retiring stickied up there. I’m sure people who want to fake retire as a joke would be warded off to the media section if they knew there was a penalty for fake retirements in the retirement section.
Overall, this is a WIP. However, it’s clear that the rule needs to be changed. I invite you all to discuss as I’d like to hear your thoughts on my proposal and the rule in place already.
