Team 2 Win Inaugural All-American Bowl
Players aspiring to be drafted for the inaugural season of the National Simulation Football League had their first opportunity to put their skills on show outside of their college tape in today's All-American Bowl.
Team 1 faced Team 2, and both teams were brimming with exceptional talent. There was a lot of back-and-forth before the teams met, but Team 2 came away with a 10-point victory in the end, and didn't trail at any point during the game.
The first quarter was a defensive showing as both teams' offenses struggled, with the only points scored coming from an S. Harris field goal for Team 2 and a safety forced by an A. Kreklow sack for Team 1.
F. Wozy, V. Cox and J. Spearhead also got to the quarterback, with the latter causing a fumble that was recovered by the offense, in an opening quarter that saw 4 sacks in total.
Things opened up in the second quarter, with Team 2 scoring 14 unanswered points on the back of strong performances from QB V. Draxel (19 yard TD to K. Bronko) and DB J. Harris, who returned an intercept 30 yards for a touchdown.
Team 1 continued to struggle offensively in the third quarter, managing only a single field goal. Team 2 had their own troubles, too, with their only points coming from a C. Christmas 56-yard punt return TD.
Team 1's first and only touchdown came in the fourth quarter, on a 25-yard pass from E. Hunt to D. West. The game was a stalemate from then on, with Team 2 running out the clock and Team 1 only managing to kick one more field goal.
The final score of 24 - 14 belies the offensive performances of both teams, with 25 of the 38 total points in the game coming from defense and special teams. There were only two offensive touchdowns, accounting for 13 points after extra points.
The Superstars
For Team 1, quarterback E. Hunt threw their only touchdown, and completed 4/7 for 78 yards and a QB rating of 135.7. His teammate J. Christ was accurate, completing 14/16 for 126 yards, but threw one interception, finishing with a rating of 73.4.
Running Back for Team 1 R. Mackworthy put in a strong performance, rushing for 65 yards on 12 attempts, averaging 5.4 per carry with a long of 11.
The offensive standout for Team 1 was Wide Receiver D. West, who had 4 grabs for 97 yards and the team's only touchdown, and averaging 24.2 yards.
On defense the standouts were A. Selich, who racked up 10 tackles and a sack, and A. Kreklow, who dominated the game with 4 tackles, a sack, a pass defended, an interception and a safety.
Z. Ronald was an anchor on the offensive line for Team 1, with 4 pancakes, no penalties and no sacks allowed.
Team 2 saw fairly level quarterback play from A. Petrakis, who completed 9/13 for 92 yards and a QB rating of 89.3, and V. Draxel, who completed 5/8 for 66 yards and the team's only offensive touchdown.
There was a clear worst for Team 2's quarterback play, however; R. Devitt completed only 1/6 for 1 yard and threw 2 interceptions.
There were no standouts for Team 2 in rushing, but a few solid contributors. B. Nuck ran for 46 yards on 11 carries (4.2 avg) and M. Robinson gained 42 yards from 8 attempts (5.2 yards).
It was a similar story for the receivers, with 17 total catches being shared among 8 players. K. Bronko topped the list with 5 for 59 yards and a touchdown.
As with Team 1, there were two standout players on Team 2's defense in this game. C. Hardrool had 7 tackles, a pass defended and an interception. More impressive, though, was J. Harris' 4 tackles, 3 passes defended and an interception returned for a touchdown.
J. Floggity was a monster on the offensive line for Team 2, tallying 5 pancakes and only allowing 1 sack.
GM's will have a lot to think about after today's game. There is clearly no lack of defensive talent in this draft class and it seems as though any picks on D are 'can't miss'. As such, it will likely be the few offensive contributors who attract the most attention from today's performance, as there were very few bright spots on the offensive side of the ball for both teams. With 11 sacks in total on the day, GM's are also likely to be nervously eyeing the shallow OL pool in fear of losing some of their star offensive players under a body of defenders.
I can't wait to see how this game shakes up the first round picks. Let the countdown to the draft begin! :towel:
