A turmoil was caused late yesterday evening among NSFL and DSFL community as Dallas Birddogs defensive tackle Big 'snacks' Edd requested trade seemingly out of the blue. Edd, the 155th pick of this season's DSFL draft, had panned out after the draft and cemented his position as one of the key pieces of the fierce Birddogs defensive line. Edd is currently the leading tackler in the DSFL with 24 tackles, and had recorded one sack so far, which suggests -truthfully- that he had been given plenty of playing time. Also, there were no reports that Edd had any troubles in the Birddogs locker room, as all evidences point that Edd was one of the most active members in the locker room. So far, the reason for the trade request remains a mystery as Edd had not released any statement about his actions. Whatever his reason is, Edd seems quite resolute to be traded for now. So in this article, I will discuss possible landing spot for the defensive tackle.
1. Minnesota Grey Ducks
The Grey Ducks have two good defensive tackles in Mo 'mamba' magic and Tormund Bjornsson, so they have no immediate need for another defensive tackle. However, they might seek to replace Bjornsson as he had been inactive for quite some time. If they choose to bid for Edd, however, the Grey Ducks only have picks to offer as they do not have any tradable cornerbacks, kickers or offensive linemen- the position Birddogs need- that will interest the Birddogs.
Overall possibility: Low
2. Myrtle Beach Buccaneers
The Buccaneers have one good defensive tackle in Octavio Clemente, so there will be no need to add another one as long as they stick to 3-4 defensive scheme. However, the Buccaneers can significantly strengthen their pass rushing game by adding Edd, a productive interior rusher, to the defensive line. That move might help propel them to another ultimini run. Also, the Buccaneers have some excess talent in the offensive line they can afford to trade as well as picks, which might help in trade negotiations as the Birddogs are in dire need of offensive linemen
Overall possibility: Quite probable
3. Kansas City Coyotes
The Coyotes' defensive tackle spot feature Phat Boi and Nuniq Annastesia, both of whom are active. This fact remove them from candidacy of Edd's landing spot. Coyotes also have a third defensive tackle- Cam 'Burito' Burto, who is semi active and need to see some playing time as per the DSFL rules. So the Coyotes have no real reason to split the playing time of their defensive tackles even more.
Overall possibility: Almost impossible
4. Portland Pythons
The Pythons situation is similar to that of the Coyotes, as they have two active defensive tackles in NSFL senddown Jaune Arc and rookie Hank Steel. Although they don't have a third active defensive tackle unlike the Coyotes, the Pythons have no reason to bid for Edd as they will have to rotate him along with already existing players. Even though the Pythons have some players that might attract the Birddogs, I don't believe that they will enter the negotiations.
Overall possibility: Almost impossible
5. Tijuana Luchadores
The Luchadores have Jacob Rowan, but he is a long time DSFL senddown and inactive for a long time. And other 3 defensive tackles they have are trotting the line between active and inactive. This make them another possible bidder for Edd as he will easily be the best option among their defensive tackles should they acquire him. However, the Luchadores only have picks to offer as they don't have any players that will interest the Birddogs. This might make their offer less attractive then what the Buccaneers can make, but they might decide to chip in higher picks to acquire Edd as the Luchadores need Edd more than the Buccaneers do.
Overall possibility: Quite probable
6. Norfolk Seawolves
The Seawolves have active Magnus Rikiya, along with three other rookie defensive tackles, who had been active recently. This obligates them to rotate all four of them in games. This will make the Seawolves hesitant to add a fifth defensive tackle- Edd- to their roster. However, if they decide to make a playoff push, Edd will be a valuable edition to their defense as he is in a higher level than all the Sewolves defensive tackles sans Rikiya. If they decide to bid on Edd, the Seawolves' only bidding chip will be draft picks as there are no tradable players that might attract the attention of Birddogs front office in their roster.
Overall possibility: Low
7. London Royals
The Royals currently have two active defensive tackles in Leland Breeland and Tristan Gronlie. Even though they aren't as good as Edd, I don't think there is any practical reason the Royals will trade for Edd as they are in process of building the team and not contending for playoff. As Edd will see only half a season to one and a half season- if he is sent down from the NSFL- for the Royals, price for him will be too stiff for them to consider especially as they already have two active players in the same position. Plus, the Royals will need to give up some crucial draft picks to acquire Edd, because they have no tradable player who will attract the Birddogs.
Overall possibility: Almost impossible
Possible landing spot summary
Most likely:
Maybe:
As Big Edd will be one of the better defensive tackles in the DSFL right now, some teams will make a bid for him eventually. However, Edd will likely have to make due with less playing time than what he got with the Birddogs as he would be rotationed with several other players even in the best case scenario and This trade saga might also affect his NSFL draft stock negatively. So I want to advise Edd to stay a Birddog at least for this season and consult his GMs to resolve whatever issues he had to demand the trade. However, if he decides to go on with his decision and move on to another organization, I wish him luck in his duture endeavors both in the DSFL and NSFL and hope that whatever issue he had with the Birddogs would be resolved with the new team.
