The Dallas Birddogs have exceeded expectations in every way this season. As an expansion team, competing against teams with established systems and players sent down from the NSFL who have already capped their TPE at the 250TPE limit for the NSFL was always going to be difficult. As the season winds down, however, the Birddogs are tied for second in their division with the Norfolk Seawolves and Tijuana Luchadores. All three of these teams are within striking distance of the division leading Myrtle Beach Buccaneers who are only one game ahead with four left to play.

The Birddogs are in the best position of any of the teams tied for second in the division to advance as the second, or even potentially the first seed because of their recent success. The Seawolves are 2-4 in their last six games. The Luchadores are 3-3 in their last six games. The Birddogs are surging at the right time and are 4-2 their last six games and have had strong performances against all of their opponents, including a 26-16 win against the division leading Buccaneers. The Birddogs' recent success can be attributed to their high percentage of active players who are all beginning to approach the DSFL TPE cap. Now on a level playing field in terms of talent and with a developing group of strategists the Birddogs are primed to continue their surge into the playoffs.

Obviously, this is not the start the Minnesota Grey Ducks had in mind when they plotted their title defense. However, there are still enough games to finish out at 7-7. When Minnesota wins, they win big and they win on the back of Baby Yoda at halfback. But don’t count out veteran QB Vega who can sling it. He’s got a variety of WR targets to get the ball out to. And most if not all of them are a threat to rip off some massive YAC. Again, they can throw it to Baby Yoda on the screen.

Defensively, they just need to limit big plays. In many of their losses, the game was close and only got away from them with late-game big plays. They get to the QB well, but they need to keep an eye on the speed from outside. All it takes is a good roll of momentum and I can honestly say Minnesota has a chance to defend their title.

Biggest threat to their chances: being able to adjust when the running game gets taken away.

This brings me to my next point. A big issue for Minnesota this season has been an inability to get a winning streak going. This team needs to get hot now and go 3-2/3-1 to feel really good going into the playoffs.

Can it be done? Absolutely.
Will it be easy? Is anything ever easy?

Currently the Dallas birddogs are in a playoff push. With the next win we can cinch our way into the playoffs and that makes for a very fun situation. Currently the birddogs have the most active locker room to TPE ratio out of all the teams in the DSFL. Because of this strong foundation it gives an edge over most teams as the average TPE in the locker room is 165 TPE. The defensive front of the Dallas birddog is the biggest key strength and may be the factor into getting the win to give the Birddogs a chance at the playoffs. With a strong front line led by Koniecpolski and threats like Big ed and Deshun Jones to help pressure the quarter back will be the key success to victory. The defense of course cannot do it alone and so with the help of Phillips, Goodman, and Lim to stretch the field and run the ball along with Jack to sling the rock the Dallas Birddogs have a foundation for success with translates as we are currently at .500. Considering that this is just an expansion team the success that this team has found thus far is impressive and the fact that we are on a playoff contentions means all the hard work that the team has done is paying off. I look forward to the games in the future as more than likely Dallas will continue to see success and will make a deep playoff run.

Following Myrtle Beach's heart breaking loss in the Ultimini last season, I swore to never play a game sober again since that's what I attribute our loss to. First, I want you all to know that I have kept that promise. However, there is always room for improvement. That is one of the life lessons I have taken to heart over the last few year. If you’re not constantly improving, you’re going to fall behind. And as we’ve been practicing our social distancing and self-isolating to help slow the spread of this new virus, I’ve had plenty of time to think and reflect on how I can improve myself while still keeping my promises to the fans. I’m questioning whether rum is really the right drink to be using to achieve my highest potential on the field. Perhaps the rum in the mixed drinks I serve pregame from my minibar have been the reason the Liberty have struggled so much this season. What if we used vodka instead? Or maybe gin? Or what if we skipped the mixed drinks altogether and just chugged whiskey before games? The possibilities are really endless and it’s difficult to know what the right choice is. Do we stick with the familiar or take a leap of faith? I’ve gotten a small sample of players to work with me to test some theories, but I’m hopeful that we can improve ourselves and make Philly a force to be reckoned with next season.

At 2-10, the only way for the Arizona Outlaws to make the playoffs would be if teams above us were disqualified. Obviously, that means we are looking to the future. We have a great, active, young core of players on both side of the ball. Our GM, unicorn, is dedicated and has a great plan lain out for the next few seasons. We are all on the same page and are eager to see the team succeed.

I’d like to blame it on bad luck in the sim, but we have the worst point differential in the league. Because of the horrible record and subpar play on the field, it’s tough to attract free agents.

However, we were unlucky to have this down year in the time of expansion. In a normal year, we’d be looking at the #1 pick. Instead, we’ll probably end up with the #3. This is a deep draft, so at least we have that going for us. Still, it’d be easier to continue the rebuild if we had picks 1, 11, 21, etc instead of 3, 15, and 27.

If we follow our leadership, lean on our veterans, continue to improve our young core, and pick up a couple of keys pieces in the coming drafts, the Outlaws will be a perennial powerhouse. The future is bright. #SunsOutGunsOut

As is the same with 4 out of the 5 teams in the SFC South, the Tijuana Luchadores are 5-5, hot on the heels of a run to win it all. But what separates the Luchadores from every other team in the DSFL, is their logo. God damn do they have a nice logo. No logo can quite compare to the bold and defiant logo of the Luchadores. But also their offense that's pretty nice too. They currently lead the DSFL in Points For(PF) at 236. Despite having the 2nd lowest amount of yardage in terms of rushing, Tijuana boasts the highest amount of passing yardage of any team. Though the Luchadores aren't quite as successful at red zone passing compared to other teams, it is quickly made up for by the rushing offense which leads the league with 18 rushing touchdowns. The two dimensions of the offense both make up what the other can not do.

There is no reason to count out the Tijuana Luchadores from the championship hunt. Though they are on a 2 game losing streak, there is no reason to count out the Luchadores from being championship contenders, especially with an offense with so much potential.

Minnesota’s destiny is not in our hands. We need to win out and get some help just to make the playoffs. Obviously this is a disappointment for the two-time defending Ultimini champions. Since the road to the playoffs is quite clear, the focus should be on revamping for next season. Based on this season, there is one obvious way to improve: draft better.

This season’s draft was a mixture of bad luck and a low volume of picks. Minnesota had the fewest amount of picks in the draft, and had some bad luck with inactivity and some “active” players not gaining much TPE and requiring playing time due to DSFL rules. With the immense draft class, it’s hard to say that Minnesota didn’t scout well - their top round picks all panned out very well. Perhaps what they were looking for in late-round prospects was not the right things to be looking for. Notes should be taken from the Dallas GM’s who had an incredible draft and were getting high-TPE players into the latest rounds of the draft.

The Grey Ducks will also need to figure out their quarterback situation. With Vega switching to wide receiver and probably moving on to the NSFL, the Grey Ducks will look to Sim Snowbow to take over the reigns. This is a discomforting prospect as Snowbow is just now getting into triple digits. But if he can keep up the progress, he will be a solid option for Minnesota. Look for the Grey Ducks to add depth at the QB position in the upcoming S22 DSFL draft.

The Myrtle Beach Buccaneers are on the top of the conference in the Developmental Simulation Football League. Their record currently sits at 8 and 4 and they are up by 2 games over their closest rivals in the Division, the Norfolk Seawolves. The Myrtle Beach Buccaneers are at the finishing line in terms of qualifying for the playoffs and only a disaster would result in the Buccaneers not making the playoffs. The main plan for the Buccaneers right now is to try and grasp home field advantage through the playoffs from the Kansas City Coyotes who are a game ahead.

The reason why the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers are one of the top teams in the league and an obvious Ultimini threat is due to their roster and the management. The general manager duo of Cory and Frost have brought in a spectualur rookie class into their premier locker room resulting in the success of the season. The running back tandem of Frost and Apollo have trampled defences all year and especially when the fearsome offensive line of Tremblay, Buckley, Green, Minor, Quail are in the way. The offence is pushing its way down the field with ease and the defence is also especially capable of holding teams back with sacks, interceptions and fumbles.
