To say that this was an underperforming season for the Minnesota Grey Ducks would be an understatement. Coming off the back on an S20 DSFL Ultimini championship, the Ducks were considered the clear favorite to repeat. All the pieces seemed to be there, but pressure can be a heavy burden and the team ultimately collapsed under pressure, falling to 3rd place in their division and missing the playoffs. The team is expected to bounce back and should enter next season with a clean slate, but for RB Baby Yoda, he will be moving onto the NSFL, where he joins the Arizona Outlaws.

The Outlaws are a different story. Coming off a difficult S20, the bar was low for the team. However, while the chips appear to be down for now, the team is stocked with promising youth and will have the chance to achieve great things over the next few seasons. They traded a lot of the older talent for picks in the upcoming S22 draft and have a united locker room. The future is always unpredictable, but Baby Yoda seems to be in good company as he'll be surrounded by other young, like-minded talent with a lot of opportunities ahead of them. Experts believe Yoda can contribute in multiple ways for the Outlaws and his team player attitude should allow the team to take a Best Player Available when it comes to offensive talent.

The San Jose Sabercats have not been in a meaningful playoff game in a couple seasons due to their rebuild that had seen them remain at the bottom of the conference for the past 4 or 5 seasons. This team is poised to take the next step over the course of next season or the one after due to the team starting to hit their prime before regression. The team's captains on offense and defense will be well over 1000 tpe by the time next season starts and will continue to grow based off the success of last season. If you consider how well the Sabercats played defensively, if the offense even takes a minor step forward it will drastically improve their odds at winning the close games due to their red zone offense being historically bad over this last season. With the combination of the expansion draft and the humongous draft class this is proving to be an excellent spot for the Sabercats as many of their players are projected and will not be lost in the expansion draft while the best teams will lose significant pieces on both sides of the football. Only time will tell how the Sabercats will do over the next 2 seasons but i would not be surprised if they become one of the dark horses in a weak conference.

The Tijuana Luchadores were in playoff contention all the way to the final week of the season. While they were not in control of their destiny at that point, the right series of events would have gotten them in. The future looks bright for the Luchadores however, as they had one of the highest scoring offenses in the league, while being made almost entirely of rookies. The only exception on offense being NOLA send down Ed Barker. That shows a lot of promise to the Luchadores offense next season as most, if not all, of these players will be returning for a second season in the DSFL. To really get over the hump though, the team needs to take a focused look at defense in the upcoming draft, as the defense gave up the third most points in the league, behind only the two expansion teams. While there are a couple active cornerstone pieces on the defense and some latecomers that should be much improved in the next season. The captain and top defender Ugarth the Dissector may find himself elevated into the NSFL in the coming season. If the powerhouse offense stays together next season, and the team is able to hit on some extra defenders in the draft, Tijuana should be considered as one of the top contenders for the Ultimini in Season 22.

Going into the playoffs this year nine and five and the SFC South conference champs my Myrtle Beach Buccaneers have high expectations after falling short in the Ultimini championship last year to the Minnesota Grey Ducks. With a stronger Norfolk team and a new team trying to represent the NFC in the Ultimini it will not be a breeze. After going 1 and 1 against Norfolk in the regular season we will have the home field playoff advantage which is sure to help, having the best rush offense in the league will lead us to victory going against one of the worst rush defenses in the league. With 2 great teams from the NFC that we could face we have their conference champs Kansas City who fell to us twice in the regular season both games, we were able to stop their lead leading passing game allowing only 201 yards in those 2 games combine if we stop the passing game we are sure to secure a ring. The last team in the way of our Ultimus ring is the bounce-back team Portland who managed to beat us once the same as us. They are a jack of all trades team who doesn't dominate in any categories but still manages to win games if our defense is on point and we push a bit of our passing to the next limit we will have nothing to worry about. The Ultimus is ours to lose.

The Sabercats have many promising aspects, but there are a couple different aspects of the team that will need to be improved in order for us to be in a legitimate conversation for the run at the Ultimus championship. The first and most apparent of these is our passing game. San Jose was last in the league in passing yards, passing touchdowns and passing attempts. We are relying much too heavily on our run game at this point. As a team that isn’t able to get out to early leads and often has to play behind, having a poor passing game isn’t doing us any favors. We do have 2nd ranked receiver in receiving yards Action Jackson as our star wide receiver, but we need more depth at the wide receiver position to supplement his playmaking and allow us to spread out the field more. Additionally, Dan Wright seems to be having a bit of a down year compared to the other starting quarterbacks in the league. Although he is ranked 6th overall in TPE, his performance is ranked much lower than that. Hopefully with continued training and a touch of sim luck we’ll be able to improve our passing game for next year. The other big aspect of our game we could improve upon is tackling. The Sabercats finished dead last in tackling for the year. We need to take more time to focus on our fundamental defensive skills in order to keep the opposing team’s offense off the field and win more games.

When people think of Orange County, the first thing you think of is our 8 rings. The Otters are a team with a winning culture going to 9 Ultimus bowls in the league's twenty seasons of existence is just dominance. With a pair of three-peats and a couple back to back when the Otters are on a roll they're impossible to beat. Coming into the season many doubted the Otters, getting outed in the first round last year by NOLA was rough and people expected regression to hit the team. However a strong rookie class along with MVP Franklin Armstrong putting together another monster season Orange County is back on top finishing the season with the league's best record and home field advantage through the playoffs. OCO is the clear favorite to win the Ultimus this season. Their rematch with NOLA will be a tough one on paper, however at home it should be clear who will come out on top. OCO has the superior QB in Armstrong who can take over a game at any point, while NOLA's RBs might be better on paper, OCO actually had the best rushing attack in the league due to Armstrong's ability to escape the pocket and run on his own. The defenses are about on par on paper but with the Orange County crowd on their side the mighty Otters should be well on their way to their 9th ring. The Wraiths or Hawks will be the matchup after that which the Otters should take care of should they make it to their 10th Ultimus Bowl.

Well, I can't talk about winning the Ultimini when I didn't even make it to the playoffs. That's right; the Tijuana Luchadores are not in the playoffs again. We ended the season 6-8 and lost five games in our last six. It was a disappointing end to our great start. We know we have a great team, but we just cannot seem to gather up the consistency to play great throughout the game. Many close games would have changed the outcome of our season and put us in the running for the Ultimini. Frequently, our offense and defense would take turns making avoidable mistakes, resulting in us losing by a small margin. We also had games where we played really poorly in the first half but then had a resurgence in the second half, but that won't help us win games all the time. I also feel bad for the second-year players that will go back to the NSFL and missed their chance to taste the glory of winning an Ultimini. Its also been a while since the Luchadores even made it to the Ultimini, and everyone is itching to bring the Luchadores back to glory days. For now, all we can do is train hard and get ready for the upcoming season. Start fresh, no need to pay attention to who is going to win this season because every team will start with 0-0 again, including the Luchadores.
