"Wait, who is this guy?" Probably what most of you guys are wondering as you click on this article and start skimming through. We recently were able to vote for Pro-Bowlers as a league and you can click HERE to check out the votes throughout the league or even vote yourself if you haven't already.
Let's take a look at the league's BEST Defensive Ends right now.
- NSFC
E. Teagarden, J. Spearhead
Those two are an obvious choice (Personally I feel Spearhead performed better than Teagarden but that's just my opinion) as no one else in the NSFC came close to them when we are talking about top Defensive End talent.
- ASFC
Now the ASFC is a little bit tighter than the NSFC when it comes to the defensive end position. The four names that stick out to me are
- Jayce Tuck
- Dental Dam
- Blaster Blade
- Adamle Tomlinson
Three out of Four are from the Arizona Outlaws. Now that is tough, as you have three top defensive ends that are on the same team splitting time with each other but that's a different story for a different time.
At this time, the two winners of the Pro-Bowl vote are Jayce Tuck and Adamle Tomlinson, cutting out Dental Dam and Blaster Blade. Jayce Tuck is an obvious choice as he dominated defenses with the stat line of 47 tackles (Tied for 3rd in the League, 1st in ASFC among DEs) 17 TFL (Tied for 2nd in the league amongst DEs) 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery, and 16 Sacks (1st amongst all defensive ends). He's clearly the best DE in the league so that is one spot we are taking from the two available spots at DE in the Pro-Bowl for the ASFC side.
ASFC DE - Jayce Tuck, DE - ?
Now the competition for the second spot is between Dental Dam, Blaster Blade, and Adamle Tomlinson. In a blind vote not based on names would look like this.
Player 1 - 47 Tackles 3 TFL 2 FF 1 FR 9 Sacks
Player 2 - 47 Tackles 17 TFL 2 FF 7 Sacks
Player 3 - 42 Tackles 15 TFL 10 Sacks
Now in plain sight you can see that even though Player 1 is tied with Player 2's tackles, he has a measly 3 TFL and that just won't make the cut when you are comparing with the other two who have 12+ more TFL than him and I feel like anyone would cut him out of the discussion. Player 1 is Dental Dam.
Player 2 - 47 Tackles 17 TFL 2 FF 7 Sacks
Player 3 - 42 Tackles 15 TFL 10 Sacks
The difference between the two - Player 2, 5 more tackles, 2 more TFL, 2 more FF. Player 3, 3 more sacks.
Player 3 has been picked more than Player 2 through the voting system. Why? Is it a popularity contest or do people actually value 5 Tackles, 2 TFL, 2 FF < 3 Sacks?
Player 2 is Blaster Blade
Player 3 is Adamle Tomlinson
Now me making this article is not to bash on the other DEs that are competing against me for the spot. I have respect for the other DEs and I have even told Tomlinson at the beginning of the season that I really liked how he played. But really is 3 more sacks more valuable than what Blade has done better than Tomlinson this season? Or are we just pulling names out of nowhere?
I personally think if you're sane, you would not pick 3 Sacks over 5 Tackles, 2 TFL, 2 FF.
Result: Jayce Tuck - Outlaws , Blaster Blade - Outlaws
Blaster Blade is getting snubbed. He's just a Season 2 player who is already performing better than some S1 players. Watch out next season.
