He was taken 96th overall. He was benched after three games. Two teams wouldn't trade for him. With just that information, you would think that player was on his way out of the league, but you'd be sorely mistaken. Now, that player who no one would bet on just became the richest player in NSFL history and the undisputed leader of an expansion team. He didn't get here in the conventional way, but he's here, and now the league has been put on notice.
Josh Bercovici put pen to paper yesterday shorty after free agency opened, signing a 3 year, 21 million dollar contract with bonuses of up to 2 million, capped with a No Movement Clause. Needless to say this signing shook up the norm, and could certainly open the door for even greater contracts down the road...after all, if Bercovici, who played three games and nobody wanted, can get a record contract, what happens when someone like Logan Noble is up for a new contract? The flood gates could be burst wide open.
Bercovici will be taking command of the offense in Las Vegas, a team that seemed to have built said offense around the idea of signing Bercovici all along. With additions like TE Gabriel Tenzini and star wide receiver Stormblessed, they are poised to put up an enormous amount of points. The duo of Bercovici and Stormblessed has the potential to be the next Kurt Warner and Tory Holt, or Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison- it should scare the shit out of the league.
Fresh of his recent signing, Bercovici was kind enough to answer a few questions for us.
Josh, what's the first thing you did after becoming the richest man in the NSFL?
- Bought my girlfriend new tits. Let me tell you, their fucking on point.
What do you say to the people who think you are one of the most overpaid players in sports history, that say you dont deserve the money?
- I really don't care, man, this is a business and you gotta play the game. Every single of those guys hating would of signed the same deal if it had been offered to them- but that's what separates me from them, I DID get the offer. I'm the best quarterback in the league and I should be paid as such. So what if I've only played three games? Doesn't matter because I've shown that I can win games, that I work hard and that I can lead.
What are your expectations going into your first season as a starter?
- my expectation is to dominate. Pure and simple. To make sure teams know what they passed up on.
How excited are you to work with Stormblessed?
- Oh man, he's big league, this guy can play some football and he's the best receiver in the game, we're gonna fucking shred teams. We're already synced up and on the same page after one day on the field. With me slinging the ball and Storm hauling it in there's gonna be no secondary in the league that can hold us. We will embarrass people.
Josh Bercovici has been the most polarizing player in the league since day one, and now that he's been given the keys to the city in Las Vegas I think it's same to assume we can expect even more publicity.
