Tychondrius Hood went into his Junior year season with the Florida Gators expecting to sweep the league and win a title. The team was as good as they were going to get and with a star quarterback and his rapidly progressing skill set, there was little doubt in his mind that the Gators would be National Champions. Sadly early in the season the Florida Gators star quarterback would go down with a season ending injury and with the backup being a young freshman, things took a turn for the worse for the young wide receiver and his top ranked school team. Tychondrius Hood would not let that get him down, and would make the most of the season by doing everything he could to help lead his team to victory week in and week out. While the team did not end up going to or winning the big game, Hood had a great season and gave Gator fans a reason to watch each week. Tychondrius Hood learned the value of having a positive locker room and what it really means to be a leader that season. While his team may not have achieved what they had set out to, Hood gained invaluable leadership traits that gave him an edge by keeping his teammates heads in the game, and having a great attitude and not blaming his young quarterback for the woes of that season. Tychondrius has become a great leader and plans on taking the skills he learned forward with his new team, the San Jose Sabercats.
It was in my Sophmore year of college at Notre Dame when the coach came to me before the season began. He didn't beat around the bush, "I want you to play safety this season" he said flatly. It wasn't a question really, and certainly back then as a young college student I wasn't going to argue and risk my spot on the team.
He went on to explain that with our senior safety leaving the school there was a hole in the defence and we had some promising cornerback recruits. But he felt it would be much easier to train them up in that position than have them learn the whole defense and position switch at the same time. He also felt my vision, tackling, and ability to read the game would make me an ideal free safety. It was a rough transition early in the season needing to see the whole field and read much so much more than I did when playing at cornerback. I also suddenly had to face tackling some big bodied running backs and tight ends. But after a few games and a lot of video review sessions I started to feel at home in the middle of the field with a chance to make plays on every play rather than just when the ball came my way.
A big turning point in the career of Osiris Firestorm-Fjord was definitely in the off-season between his rookie and sophomore seasons. I'm usually a team player when it comes to sim leagues. Aside from leaving Philadelphia with Hondo I don't think I have ever truly been a free agent in any sim league I have been in. With Osiris, I expected that I may try free agency after my rookie contract, especially considering the lack of success for Chicago and the fault of some of the leadership. I also expected that I would stick with the same position for my entire career which is something I haven't done here either. But then the team ownership changed hands and once again I found myself wanting to stay loyal to this team and switching to a position of need for the team despite some hesitancy about the cornerback position from my last player. Had things stayed the same this may have been my last season as a Butcher. Instead now I find myself wanting to play my entire career in Chicago. Instead of trying out a position and build that I was curious about, I find myself once again playing as a cornerback where I can have a bigger impact on team success even if it can be a stressful position to play. I owe this change of heart to Bayley and Muford coming in during that off-season, changing the narrative for the team and building a strong core with that draft class. I'm more excited for this team than I have been for one in some time and that's strongly evidenced by Osiris switching to cornerback which will take his career in a completely different direction than I was originally expecting.

For Cuco Clemente the biggest turning point was not an injury or a trade. Not even a position switch, what was the biggest turning point in Clemente's career was his name change. His birth name is Octavio Clemente and that is what he went by in his first year in the DSFL. just prior to the draft Clemente was reflecting on what he wanted out of his NSFL career. How he wanted to be perceived by fans and his opponents. So Clemente chose a name for the boogey man in his native tongue, Spanish. That is when clemente decided that he would not settle for just good. He wanted to be great.
After being drafted, Clemente got to return to Myrtle Beach and did not go on to the NSFL like he expected. This was actually an ideal scenrio as clemente really took to his new persona. He studies the greats in the league and picked which players he wanted to model himself after. The added time he had without dealing with the stress of the NSFL allowed him to developed into a balanced DT and one that will be feared. The boogey man is ready to make a name for himself. Clemente plans on being a life long Sailfish so I doubt we will see a change in the biggest event of his career anytime soon Code: WC: 227 |
