Season 25 ISFL Draft Prospect Positional Breakdown – Linebackers
Hey there sports fans! Draft week(s) festivities are finally upon us! On Friday, September 25th we have the Season 25 ISFL Rookie Draft, which is followed up a week later with the Season 25 DSFL Draft. Due to my overflowing excitement over my first ever ISFL Draft, I am going to try and do a write-up of every position group coming into the draft.
In this edition of the positional breakdown of the Season 25 ISFL Draft, we are looking at the position with arguably the best user pool in the draft: Linebackers
Position Stats
Active Players*: 10
*To qualify as an active player for this breakdown, the player had to have been updated in the last update of Season 24 – 9/12/2020 in the TPE Tracker
Average TPE: 220
Highest TPE: 248 (Donald McBobby and Hank Winchester)
As you can see in the position stats we have not only a fairly large amount of active users at 10, but also the second-highest per player TPE average of all the position groups – a very respectable 220 TPE. The depth of the linebacker class is very good news for ISFL teams, as the position group needs a little bit more players to join their ranks. Any team thinking to improve their linebacking corps could do far worse than taking a player in this draft.
Before I get too far into these player breakdowns, I want to preface by saying these are all subjective and based on my knowledge of the players. I know that I do not know everyone in the league, their stories, or how active they really are. If I missed any information or got something wrong about a player, feel free to correct me and know it mistakes are not intentional.
The Players
Donald McBobby | Portland Pythons | @bjbren17
TPE: 248
Season stats: 85 tackles | 2 TFL | 6 sacks | 1 INT | 4 PD | 1 Safety
McBobby created just slightly before the rest of his linebacking cohorts, as evidence by his slight lead in TPE over the rest of the pack. Uder Bjbren has not been an extremely active user on the forums, only authoring two pieces of media beyond his initial player creation and update page. The two that he wrote, though, were long and insightful articles, ensuring that McBobby will continue to make enough money to be a max earning player during his time in the ISFL.
Hank Winchester | Myrtle Beach Buccaneers | @timeconsumer
TPE: 248
Season stats: 111 tackles | 4 TFL | 2 sacks | 2 FF | 1 FR | 3 PD
Son or nephew or… maybe distant cousin a few times removed of league legend Angus Winchester, Hank Winchester is the third player controlled by ISFL celebrity timeconsumer. For those of you not aware, timeconsumer is the man behind arguably the greatest QB in history of the ISFL – Cooter Bigsby. Simply put, the user needs no introduction. Winchester should be one of the top linebackers off the board, but then again, someone like Winchester might have the social standing to dictate where he goes, so maybe he ends up sliding lower than we think. All I know is I can’t wait!
Guy Fields | Dallas Birddogs | @r0tzbua
TPE: 235
Season stats: 120 tackles | 1 TFL | 2 PD
Guy Fields is already being projected by most users as one of the top three players taken in the draft, and it’s easy to see why. User r0tzbua is one of the most recognizable of all the users who joined in that crazy July 2020 recruitment rush, and from day one he’s made a name for himself. Okay, sure, r0tz is a very nice, friendly, active user who obviously is good at programming and graphics, but let’s be honest with ourselves here: Fields isn’t getting talked about as a first round pick if not for the real hero of the story, his pupper, Finn. I’ve heard many rumors swirling that teams are looking to draft Guy Fields simply to up their overall team pet game.
L’Gazzy Burfict | London Royals | @y2bobman
TPE: 229
Season stats: 72 tackles | 1 TFL | 5 sacks | 1 PD | 1 FF
L’Gazzy Burfict is one of the most under the radar linebacker prospects in this draft, which is ridiculous for a player and user combination this good. Burfict is, firstly, a max earning player, and appears to have no intention of slowing down. He boasts a pretty solid media game, with his Dare to Dream series producing some very underrated articles, and lastly, he is one of the best Twitter accounts to follow in the Season 25 class. In an absolutely loaded linebacking class, I can see Burfict sliding a bit to the middle rounds, but if he makes it down to the third round, I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone making moves to go and grab him.
Jimi DeSoto | Norfolk Seawolves | @Jimi64
TPE: 227
Season stats: 78 tackles | 1 TFL | 2 sacks | 2 INT | 3 PD | 1 DEF TD | 1 FR
Another absolutely stud in this class, DeSoto is yet another max earning player, who looks to be motivated to be a fixture in the ISFL for seasons to come. User Jimi64 hasn’t posted a ton of media to the forums lately, but his early work, focusing on the Prospect Bowl and his breakdown of his fellow Season 25 linebackers made for great reads. He also has one of the most wholesome Twitter feeds, and I’ve heard brings a great presence to the locker room, evidenced by him being selected as a team captain by his Norfolk teammates.
Gary Goodman | Kansas City Coyotes | @"ShnarlyDude"
TPE: 226
Season stats: 99 tackles | 3 TFL | 1 sack | 3 INT | 8 PD | 1 FF
Full disclosure: user ShnarlyDude is one of my oldest and closest friends.
Now with that out of the way, let’s talk about Gary Goodman and why you shouldn’t take him. Have you seen his social media presence? The guy is a total pushover, talking about being all nice and kind to each other. It’s all a smokescreen. Behind that smile is a visage of pure evil looking to hurt everyone around him. He’s been around just as long as Burfict and DeSoto and is lagging behind them in TPE big time. What a chump. His own teammates don’t even like him, which is why they saddled him with War Room responsibilities this off-season. His player didn’t even play that well, not even getting 100 tackles and only pulling in three interceptions on the season. You probably shouldn’t draft him, and you DEFINITELY shouldn’t draft him if you also plan on drafting me. Oh, he also totally doesn’t have super cute kitties or a goofy dog at home, so you shouldn’t ask him for pet pictures.
Rusty Rucker | Norfolk Seawolves | @LancedJack
TPE: 224
Season stats: 91 tackles | 4 TFL | 7 sacks | 5 PD | 1 FF
Apparently, Rusty Rucker is the first player created by user LancedJack, and I was super surprised when I discovered that this morning. Lanced is an active presence in the league, and I’m pretty sure he’s still part of the wiki team. Hell, the guy joined the community on July 20th, and within a week was already part of one of the updater teams. That’s the kind of player and user you’re getting out of Rucker. He’s already a max earner, but also obviously cares a lot about the health and success of our league.
LancedJack, are you sure you’re not like a multi of some user or someone who took their player retirement to mean they had to create a brand-new user, too?
Richard “Dick” Leaking | Dallas Birddogs | @ReverendOReily
TPE: 224
Season stats: 102 tackles | 1 TFL | 9 sacks | 9 PD
Honestly, I’m getting a little tired of writing the same damn thing for every one of these players. They’re all max earners and have made names for themselves within the community. ReverendOReily gets some bonus points here for having a username that both made me chuckle and then suffer PTSD from my time in Catholic school. He hasn’t been a large presence in the media side of things, posting only three pieces of media, but they’ve all been insightful and well-written. Richard Leaking has the looks of yet another solid option for any team looking to deepen their linebacking corps.
Wasrabi Gleel | Minnesota Grey Ducks | @Crodyman
TPE: 206
Season stats: 105 tackles | 4 TFL | 5 sacks | 1 INT | 3 PD
If you want a user whose activity level outshines his current TPE (which is still over 200 at time of writing, not bad at all!) then look no further than Gleel. He’s been a posting and media monster this year, already netting 16 articles written at time of writing. He also does podcasts, I believe, which is super cool for a new user to do. Gleel also has a great Twitter game (I feel like that’s a common thread with these players) that warrants a follow. I’ve also had a bit of a secret crush (welp, secret’s out now!) on Gleel since the start of the season, so I hope that he goes to a good home that will take care of him and show him the love he deserves!
God damn, Pat, dial it back a bit.
Dexter Jackson | Myrtle Beach Buccaneers | @KillaScrilla
TPE: 135
Season stats: 63 tackles | 2 TFL | 6 sacks | 1 INT | 8 PD | 1 FR
I’m going to start this part off with an apology to Jackson’s user, KillaScrilla, the man behind veteran WR Action Jackson (which, by the way, is a fantastic movie starring Carl Weathers): I’m sorry I left Dexter off of my DSFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Honorable Mentions.
Jackson is, as you probably guessed, a recreate player that decided not to join the Season 26 class, but instead hopped right into the 25 class. His player outplayed his TPE this past season, and I fully expect Jackson to get drafted well above his TPE. He will most certainly be a send down player this year (lucky for Myrtle Beach) and will probably dominate at the DSFL level before being called up.
If you didn’t get the gist from the player write-ups here, Linebacker is going to be a position that I suspect we will see a few of taken in the first round of the draft, and then will have none left on the board by the middle of the third round. As soon as the second wave of players is taken, I think you’ll see a massive run at the position, as there is depth the whole way down, and teams will not want to miss out on a potential stud.
There we have it folks – the end of this edition of Pat’s Season 25 ISFL Draft Prospect Positional Breakdown. I hope you enjoyed reading and once again, let me know what I got wrong in the comments below!
