Hello Tre, thank you for sitting down for this interview with us. Lot of emotions I'm sure after that draft. How are you feeling?
Tre Washington
Man. I'm feeling all sorts of emotions, mostly excitement and pure joy. This whole process has. Even a real roller coaster ride for me.
Cheese Farley
I'll bet. Talking with the Wraiths organization, they've all spoken quite highly of you and have stated that they weren't expecting you to be available for them at the bottom of the second. Why do you think you fell so far? There were reported concerns at the beginning of the year of you not showing up to practice. Any truth to those rumors?
Tre Washington
To be hunnid percent honest, I didn't expect to even go higher than the mid 3rd or 4th. I think the main concern most gms had was my late start. I was a waiver pickup who just signed up for the league the week of the DSFL draft. Making the move from North Carolina to Kansas City in such a short amount of time took a good deal out of me, adjusting to the new time zone, climate, etc. However, I can assure you that I did not intentionally miss any of my coaches scheduled practices. I'm just not that kind of guy to just disappear for no reason, if I'm missing practice you know it's something serious and even on those days I still make sure to hit a football field somewhere and work on my game.
Cheese Farley
I think that what the general public and media don't understand is that you guys aren't at 100% all the time. There's adjustment periods, there's life outside of football that gets in the way. More to that end; with marijuana becoming legal in many states around the US, there were a lot of North Carolina fans who were upset with the university for withdrawing your scholarship. There were also many fans who were upset with you for being in possession of marijuana in the first place. How would you respond to fans of yours who were disappointed in the situation that unfolded?
Tre Washington
Look I regret that day I lost my scholarship from the very bottom of my heart. I was being naive, foolish and didn't bother to check and see if my friends had anything on them. And I am forever grateful to Coach Stan Hill at Northwest Community college for giving me a chance to transfer and play there on short notice. I'd also like to thank him for teaching me how to become a better man and a better athlete. If it wasn't for I don't know if I would have gotten a chance to go to NCAT or even enter the DSFL. At the end of the day, this was a mistake I made at 18 years old. I am now 23 years old, and I just don't believe I should have that sort of thing held against me, especially after all this time.
Cheese Farley
Absolutely, we all made mistakes when we were young. We're all very impressed with how you've grown and look forward to many seasons of Washington in the ISFL. To turn the conversation to football; you're mostly known for your speed but from an eye test perspective you've got a bit of a way to go before you're able to keep up with some of the top-end receivers in the league. Have you discussed with Yellowknife about how they intend to use you in their coverage schemes? Will they be using you as a free safety in a cover 1 or will you be playing closer up front?
Tre Washington
Ooh that's something we can't just reveal right away, no leaks you know haha. However I can tell you that they may have me sent back down to the DSFL to refine that part of my game. My coverage skills is definitely something I plan on working on for most of this offseason.
Cheese Farley
Totally understand the need for secrecy. What did you think of your usage in Kansas City this past season?
Tre Washington
I'm overall satisfied with my usage over in KCC. I felt like Glims and Frazzle were able to use my strengths to the best of it's ability while masking some of my weaknesses.
