Well, the DSFL draft happened. We've all made it, now it's time to review the mock I made 4 days ago and see how I did! For those of you who haven't read the original, you can find it here.
KANSAS CITY COYOTES, 1ST OVR
Who I picked: Professor Godfrey Gravity, DT
Where they actually went: 17th OVR to the Kansas City Coyotes (3rd round)
Who actually got picked here: Luke Quick, WR
This was a bit of a surprise to me, honestly. Not that the Coyotes picked Quick, he's a great user and as I did say, Kansas City could basically choose whoever the hell they wanted and have them contribute immediately. I'm more surprised that Gravity fell as far as he did. Funnily enough, he did end up going to Kansas City, so small win for me in that regard, but for a strong earner at DT to fall so far in the draft? Very interesting, for sure. I did say KC could potentially take a receiver as well, so another small tick in the column for me.
TIJUANA LUCHADORES, 2ND OVR
Who I picked: IsHe ReallyInvisible, QB
Who actually got picked here: IsHe ReallyInvisible, QB
One of the picks I was absolutely sure on turned out to be completely true! I said the player in question had history with Tijuana, Tijuana needed a QB, not much else to say here. 1/2 so far.
MINNESOTA GREY DUCKS, 3RD OVR
Who I picked: Manhattan Project, DE
Where they actually went: 14th OVR to the London Royals (2nd round)
Who actually got picked here: Anton Bruckner, OL
Welp, miss on both the player picked and the team that would pick them. Truth be told, I didn't really look much at Bruckner during my mock. I did kind of hastily slap it together to cash in on the mock draft craze at the time, but Bruckner was a really nice pick here. He gives the Ducks some help in the both the run and pass blocking game and should be a stalwart piece on the line for a couple of seasons, barring an early call up.
DALLAS BIRDDOGS
Who I picked: Chunt The Badger, WR
Who actually got picked here: Chunt The Badger, WR
This was the most surprising thing in my entire mock. I was the only person to mock Badger going in the 1st round at all. Not only that, I mocked him going to the Birddogs! Big score there. Not much else to say about him that I didn't say already in my proper mock. Dude has been busting his ass off in terms of earnings and he's going to be an absolute weapon in Dallas.
NORFOLK SEAWOLVES
Who I picked: Raeni Clarke, QB
Who actually got picked here: Raeni Clarke, QB
See IsHe ReallyInvisible. Pretty much everything I said up there also applies to Clarke. History with the team, great user behind the player, and Bex has maintained a good relationship with Norfolk during her time in the ISFL. Again, not surprised at all, but that makes it 3/5. Not bad for the DSFL, eh?
LONDON ROYALS, 6TH OVR
Who I picked: Busch Goose, RB
Where he actually went: 41st OVR to the Kansas City Coyotes (6th round)
Who actually got picked here: Glenn Smart, DE
Well, I completely missed. In fact, I missed so much, Goose didn't even end up in the same solar system from where I predicted him. Honestly, this was one of the most surprising falls of the entire draft. Not only that, he ended up with Kansas City, a team already sitting on one good running back and potentially having 2 if they could ever lure King Tut out of inactivity. But, London is building their defense here, definitely important, and looking at him as a user, London definitely got themselves a great player here.
PORTLAND PYTHONS, 7TH OVR
Who I picked: Luke Quick, WR
Where he actually went: 1st OVR to the Kansas City Coyotes (1st round)
Who actually got picked here: Xavier Walls, LB
Another interesting prediction. I did have Quick going in the first round, but I did not think he would rise up the draft order compared to my mock. Portland was another team that drafted heavily towards defense, grabbing 2 linebackers and a safety in the first three rounds of the draft. I though Portland might want to focus early on grabbing a strong #2 receiver, but building the defense to be even stronger is rarely ever a bad idea.
BONDI BEACH BUCCANEERS, 8TH OVR
Who I picked: Dexter Zaylren, QB
Who actually got picked here: Dexter Zaylren, QB
4 out of 8 isn't bad for the DSFL. Hell, if you got 50% on the ISFL Mock Draft PT, that's a cool 9 TPE for you to spend. Slightly higher than the mock draft average, so it'd be a pretty good payday all things considered. Anyways, I had Bondi Beach pegged to pick a quarterback, but I wasn't 100% certain who they were going to pick. You absolutely could have slotted Erik Gaare in here, for example, but Laser has the most experience of all the QBs left up on the board. This was an excellent pick for Bondi Beach, 100%.
So, what did I learn about my mock draft? Well, when I missed hard on a prospect, I missed really damn hard. I got completely blindsided by several players in the 1st round, and several massive tumbles by various users was really surprising to me. But, that's just how mock drafts go sometimes. Players can slip through the cracks, and some can end up tumbling down the draft order. But, I still managed to get 4 picks completely correct, even if only 1 of them wasn't a pretty obvious recreate playing at QB.
