Hey, so I'm a lot less busy now with classes and playing Monster Hunter, which means I should probably get started on this. I'm also going to total up the runs with 0 or less yards along with them, as the sim seems to treat any runs that gain 0 as negative runs, and I think that should also be interesting to find out.
Week 1:
Sarasota Sailfish at Chicago Butchers:
Sailfish Rushers:
Raphtalia Chan: 10/18 (1 negative run)
Giovanni Bianchi: 3/8 (1)
Chan, as my personal RB2 for last season, began this season hot right out of the gate, hovering around 50% success rate the entire time. Bianchi was feast or famine, getting 22 of his 26 yards on his 3 successes.
Butchers Rushers:
Baby Yoda: 3/11 (1)
Madison Hayes: 2/11 (1)
If we counted Hayes' receiving totals here, she wouldn't look anywhere near as bad considering she caught 3 of 4 for 90 yards and a touchdown. Yoda, meanwhile, didn't get much outside of a single 21 yard run; one of his other 2 successes was a 1 yard touchdown run.
Colorado Yeti at Yellowknife Wraiths:
Yeti Rushers:
Richard Gilbert: 10/13
Drip Dad: 2/3
Man, this team rushed so efficiently, getting long gains and converting first downs all over the place. Why did they lose so badly again? (double checks box score) Yeah, 4 turnovers would do it.
Wraiths Rushers:
Jameson Vermillion: 5/10
Acura Skyline: 1/6 (1)
Colby Jack: 1/1
Colby Jack brought out a bit of the old DDSPF16 magic with his lone run of the game going for 25 yards. Other than that, considering that at the time of writing this Skyline has the highest yards per carry in the league, this was a terrible start for him.
Berlin Fire Salamanders at Philadelphia Liberty:
Salamanders Rushers:
Joseph Petrongolo: 5/10
Terry Yaki: 0/4
Petrongolo kinda stunk for most of the day, getting 2 short yardage successes (including a short gain on 2nd and 1) and only getting any runs of over 10 yards when it came time to run out the clock near the end of the game.
Liberty Rushers:
Darrell Williams: 5/10 (1)
Anders Christiansen: 6/9
Both Williams and Christiansen were extremely consistent and high quality rushers of the football during the game, although Williams fell off a bit after an immensely strong early game.
Austin Copperheads at Baltimore Hawks:
Copperheads Rushers:
Zoe Watts: 17/30 (2)
Jim the Vampire: 3/4
Jackie Daytona: 0/1 (1)
I think this might have been the most unconvincing >50% success rate game I've seen in a while, considering who it was against, the negative plays, and just how many rushes it took to get to not all that much production in the grand scheme of things. Granted, this is still a 135 yard performance with 2 touchdowns, it just has only 4.5 yards per carry and comes against the Hawks. Meanwhile, Daytona would have been successful except he fumbled the ball away to the opposition on his lone carry.
Hawks Rushers:
Busch Goose: 6/12
Preston Parker: 4/13 (3)
Luke Skywalker: 0/1
It's weird to see a Hawks team with successful rushers. Parker's interesting considering he and Watts are the only people so far with more than a single negative run in week 1, and he had even more on less than half of the carries. Goose, meanwhile, was pretty average.
Arizona Outlaws at Honolulu Hahalua:
Outlaws Rushers:
Tatsu Nakamura: 5/10 (1)
Gunner Thorbjornsson: 2/4
Charlemagne Cortez: 1/1
I'm very surprised at how effective Nakamura was this game considering his low YPC and the low output of the team's offense in the first place. Then again, I can also say that about the Hahalua.
Hahalua Rushers:
Nicholas Ayers: 10/16 (1)
Cobra Kai: 5/12
As I begin to wrap up the week, I think it's fair to say that there's a much better outlook in terms of RBs and how they function in the sim. Very few running games were bad, and those bad running games were mainly piloted by poor RBs. Despite both teams having 2.7 yards per carry, they were both successful over 50% of the time.
San Jose Sabercats at New Orleans Second Line:
Sabercats Rushers:
Jamar Lackson: 11/21 (1)
Rando Cardrissian: 7/15 (1)
Lackson had a weird day, starting out something like 2/7 or so and then rattling off 8 straight successes before finishing the day poorly only succeeding on one of his last 5 runs.
Second Line Rushers:
Mr Forty Two: 6/14
Mike Rotchburns: 5/11
Kichwa Jones: 1/2
Ben Slothlisberger: 1/2 (1)
The most notable thing about this team is that they had 4 rushers, each of whom got at least one success and one failure. I didn't realize Jones had the ability to rush for 10 yards on his own, much less with 11 guys supposedly there to stop him.
Orange County Otters at New York Silverbacks:
Otters Rushers:
Ace Savage: 2/6 (1)
Jeffrey Phillips: 1/3
Not all that much to say, this team didn't run much and each of their running backs had a single success that took up the majority of their production on the day.
Silverbacks Rushers:
Captain Rogers: 8/27 (6)
Elijah Torres: 2/5
Buster Bawlls: 1/1
Sam Howitzer: 0/1
What the actual hell, Rogers? You not only have one of the lowest percentages of anyone who had more than a couple carries in the week (at a quick glance, only Skyline, Yaki, and Parker are worse) but you have double the negative runs of anyone else in the entire league. You had a quarter of all the negative runs in the league this week. And it's not like the Otters are a stout rush D, they're pretty average at 7th.
Week 2:
Colorado Yeti at Sarasota Sailfish:
Yeti Rushers:
Richard Gilbert: 3/12
Drip Dad: 0/1
Don't let that 25% success rate of Gilbert's fool you, 2 of his successes were barely converting a 3rd and 1 and a 4th and 1. He was absolutely abhorrent this game even if he avoided the absolute pits of despair.
Sailfish Rushers:
Raphtalia Chan: 11/22 (1)
Giovanni Bianchi: 4/7
Sigismund Sternenstaub: 0/1
Chan opened up extremely strong, with a 1st quarter+2 plays that included 7 successes on 8 runs, even if 3 of them were short yardage. She cooled off immensely in the 2nd half, however, getting only 2 successful runs the entire time. Bianchi also started strong, going for 3/4 in the first half.
Chicago Butchers at Baltimore Hawks:
Butchers Rushers:
Baby Yoda: 4/9
Madison Hayes: 2/8
George O'Donnell: 1/1
Keynel McZeal: 0/1
Baby Yoda got over half of his rushes in running out the clock time, as well as over half of his successes. Both him and Hayes got a large number of Short Gain carries that just barely don't count for negative rushes. Side note, Hayes remains the most annoying running back to find because she just so happens to share a last name and a team with a star DE.
Hawks Rushers:
Busch Goose: 6/11 (1)
Preston Parker: 5/10
The Hawks continue to be extremely good at running the ball for being a team built with an intention to not compete for the next couple seasons. Goose and Parker both ran very well this game, which is something that probably stops soon if I'm remembering correctly.
Yellowknife Wraiths at Berlin Fire Salamanders:
Wraiths Rushers:
Acura Skyline: 7/15 (1)
Jameson Vermillion: 4/7
Again, really surprised at how not excellent this run game has been considering Skyline was hovering around 6 yards per carry heading into the week. Vermillion actually outperformed him on the day.
Salamanders Rushers:
Joseph Petrongolo: 6/15 (2)
Terry Yaki: 0/1
Nick Kaepercolin: 0/1 (1)
Yikes. Short gain on 3rd and 1? 0 yard gain on a goal-to-go opportunity? This was not a great day for Petrongolo, although he saved it a bit in the end when he succeeded on 3 of his final 4 rushes.
Orange County Otters at Philadelphia Liberty:
Otters Rushers:
Ace Savage: 6/12
Jeffrey Phillips: 6/11
Suleiman Ramza: 0/1
I was about to write Savage off for the day and then he ripped off 5 successes in a row starting near the end of the 3rd quarter. Phillips also had a similar stretch in the 4th, pulling 4 out of 5 successes in a short period.
Liberty Rushers:
Darrell Williams: 8/12 (1)
Anders Christiansen: 1/2 (1)
Sam Torenson: 0/1 (1)
Fuzzy Dotson: 0/1
Williams was absolutely outstanding for pretty much the entire day. Side note, according to the sim, there were 6 rushers for the Liberty, which I believe come from the failed onside kick for Fencick, and the Otters kneeling for Negs. Yeah, if I'm looking at it correctly the other team kneeling leads to -2 rushing yards for a QB. Sim continues to be broken.
Honolulu Hahalua at New Orleans Second Line:
Hahalua Rushers:
Nicholas Ayers: 11/23
Cobra Kai: 7/16 (1)
Tristain Hex: 1/1
Chika Fujiwara: 1/1
This was just an extremely effective running game for how often it was used. Kai was on his way to a masterful game, but was unsuccessful on all of his final 7 carries of the game.
Second Line Rushers:
Mike Rotchburns: 3/6
Mr Forty Two: 5/5
Kichwa Jones: 0/1
I want to give a shoutout to Forty Two here, only 2 plays the entire game that involved him didn't go for at least 5 yards: A 4 yard run on 1st down, and a 3 yard pass on 3rd and 5 to set up an opportunity for a winning Field Goal. So far this is the record for runs without a failure in a game, I think including last season too.
Austin Copperheads at Arizona Outlaws:
Copperheads Rushers:
Zoe Watts: 9/19 (3)
Jim the Vampire: 1/3
Jackie Daytona: 0/1
A good portion of why the Copperheads won this game was due to Watts being effective while being inefficient. Multiple times this game she had poor runs early in drives and would make them up later with long touchdown runs. She ended the day with 3 back to back negative plays, including one where she technically got a short gain but wiped it out with her own penalty.
Outlaws Rushers:
Tatsu Nakamura: 13/25 (1)
Gunner Thorbjornsson: 4/6
Nakamura acted pretty similar to Watts, making up for previous bad snaps on drives with great plays. He also started out extremely strongly, getting 8 successes out of his first 10 carries. Thorbjornsson meanwhile was very effective despite limited usage.
New York Silverbacks at San Jose Sabercats:
Silverbacks Rushers:
Captain Rogers: 13/26 (1)
Elijah Torres: 5/10 (3)
Sam Howitzer: 0/2
Buster Bawlls: 1/1
There's not much to say about Rogers' day, except that he would definitely be an undeserving OPOG if not for his receiving efforts. Torres is more interesting. He almost had an amazing day, opening with 3 straight successes, and getting what should have been enough yards for successes on his last 5 carries as well. Unfortunately, one of those carries was an 8 yard carry on 1st and 22 so it wasn't a success, and 2 others were fumbled away to the opposing team, including one on the 2 yard line in OT.
Sabercats Rushers:
Jamar Lackson: 9/18 (1)
Rando Cardrissian: 6/16
Cardrissian had an absolutely awful first half, going 2 of 8 and with both of his successes coming on short yardage. Lackson, meanwhile, started out very strong before falling off in the 2nd half, going 5 of 7.
No master list this time, things are just too busy in my life.
