I am going to try to do a mock draft for the S35 DSFL. Let me preface this by saying I'm an S36 rookie and a first-time sim-league participant, so I have absolutely no business doing one of these but thought why the hell not. This class has a bunch of amazing first-time users who are energetic, engaging, and very fun to be around and it is an honor for me to be part of this class. This class also has a ton of recreates with some who have been previous DSFL GMs, and some other amazing high-earning users. However, I will make this mock draft based on the thread by @g2019 and avoid drafting any recrates in the first 2 rounds. Throughout the mock draft, I'll try to pair team needs with the availability of players but will also try to employ the best player available strategy if needs and availability don't match.
Many thanks to @firstfray, @katarn22, @Kotasa, @IceBear32, @rapideagle, @PugWalrus, and @LordEscanor for all the help and for answering my questions! Also huge appreciation to @br0_0ker for lending me his draft primer sheet so I could manually update players' TPE as of 4/23. I updated TPE based on the prospect update and tried to be as accurate as I could.
TLDR: There is a list at the end by teams if you want to skip all this junk!
To any of the rookies, whose name isn't listed on there or those who are lower than they expected, this mock draft means nothing and is just my take on where the dominos might fall. Plus the draft means nothing, in all honesty. There is no reward at stake or Dotts card. There have been a multitude of players who were drafted lower and went to have a helluva great career and even make it to the HoF. Don't let this discourage you from being active in the league, earning as many TPE as you can, and above all having fun.
Norfolk Seawolves - Needs: QB, WR, CB, DT
After finishing with a 3-11 record, the Seawolves will hope having the 1 overall pick in this draft will help bring them back to winning games consistently. This draft is seriously very deep with a bunch of rookies and re-creates who will continue churning out TPE earnings. The Seawolves will be happy with this draft as they get 2 #1 prospects in a position of need, Graham Harper and Roque Santa Cruz. I personally like Meagher more than Iverson based on activity and will believe this draft will bring them back to winning, only if Roque Santa Cruz can deliver.
1.1 - CB - Graham Harper @PurpleReign
2.1 - DT - Nathan Meagher @Nathan
3.1 - QB - Roque Santa Cruz @Air Crou
4.1 - WR - Mandrews Mchollywood @Rusfan
London Royals - Needs: DE, DT, LB, WR
After having their 6th straight losing season, the London Royals will hope that they can shore up their front 7. By getting the #1 prospect in Xavier Valorian, and having their previous GM abh89's player DE Andrews return, the Royals will hope they can run havoc on opposing offenses with the 4-3 defense. I still have reservations on LB McThumper as I think he is the bust of the class, but only time will tell.
1.2 - DT - Xavier Valorian @XaveValor
2.2 - LB - Kevin McThumper @Chucky
3.2 - DE - Harley Andrews @abh89
4.2 - WR - Thomas Robinson @infern8
Bondi Beach Buccaneers - Needs: WR, DT, RB, LB
The Buccaneers narrowly missed the playoffs after a brutal second half to their season in which they lost 5 out of their 6 matches. They will look to add more offensive power by drafting the WR #1 prospect Austin Morley, and then grabbing Akaki to shore up their front 7. Sconnie might be end up looking like a bust in the future but is currently the #1 TPE earner and that should mean something right? The biggest question mark is DT Iverson as he hasn't shown for offseason training since the 14th of April.
1.3 - WR - Austin Morley @soevil
2.3 - LB - Akaki Akyare @Ulaire
3.3 - RB - Sconnie McSix @g2019
4.3 - DT - Tyrod Iverson @cluesman
Portland Pythons - Needs: LB, RB, CB, S
The Pythons have some glaring needs, especially after having only 5 players return from the previous season. They will look to solidify both backfields in the first 3 rounds. In the 4th round, to all the other GMs hatred the Pythons select TE Wells II, which might be a draft steal at that overall. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pythons decided to trade down to grab more draft capital as they need a bunch of help.
1.4 - S - Ja'uan Holliday @Friesen1520
2.4 - RB - Jarvis Harbinger Marvin @DREAMSLOTH
3.4 - CB - Suggs Upshar II @Suggs
4.4 - TE - Reece Wells II @josda_
Kansas City Coyotes - Needs: CB, WR, DE, DT, S
The Coyotes have some bad luck this past season with their GM being banned, and a tough loss against the Greyducks. But I expect GM FirstFray to continue fighting and building a team that will once again bring them back to the playoffs. While losing Holland to a divisional rival will sting, they will be happy to find Swift is just an able Safety. Having two recreates will also help the GM in the locker room and in the field - WR Perez is going to be a nightmare for the rookie CBs, and I expect Bonzi to be a great TPE earner.
1.5 - S - Teemo Swift @Repgnar
2.5 - DE - JR Frankenstero @Punk42AE
3.5 - WR - Octavio Perez @Raven
4.5 - CB - Bonzi Buddy @zaynzk
Tijuana Luchadores - Needs: DL, CB, WR, OL
The Luchadores ended the season as the top seed but saw a wild OT defeat against the eventual Ultimini winners, Dallas Birddogs. With 11 players returning for the upcoming season, the Luchadores have few holes, especially in their OL and DL which they address by taking both #2 OL and DT prospects. If the Luchadores can have Mabel Pines return to their old TPE earning ways, I expect them to be in the playoffs once again with this draft.
1.6 - DT - Charles Chapman @Charple
2.6 - OL - Pete Zuh @seal
3.6 - WR - Zephod Beeblebrox @Mooty99
4.6 - CB - Mabel Pines @dude_woman
Minnesota Greyducks - Needs: LB, CB, TE
The runner-ups will have a long road back to the Ultimini as they have 10 players on their roster but few seem to be inactive. Expect them to make a couple of splash defensive picks as they will retain their star WR, QB, and RBs. Adding Hogmally to this lethal offense will see them hopefully set the league ablaze and give nightmares to opposing defenses. Reuniting with Edison will see them bring back some manpower to their defense which seems to be their weakness currently.
1.7 - LB - Fred Edison @Liter
2.7 - S - Quendyn Quarterstorm @Twenty6
3.7 - TE - Mister Hogmally @iStegosauruz
4.7 - DE - Aqeel Steele @"AbacusAmateur"
Dallas Birddogs - Needs: QB, LB, DL, OL
The winners of S34 will have 10 players coming back this upcoming season, with 8 over the 100 TPE hump. However, their greatest question mark will be the lack of QB after QB Marciano was called to ISFL. I suspect the Birdogs and Seawolves to fight to get the services of QB Santa Cruz. Nonetheless, the Birddogs have a solid core and will look to bring in players who will fulfill immediate needs.
1.8 - OL - J.T Kurbis @JoshiePoo
2.8 - LB - Ignatius Reilly @yesboom
3.8 - DE - Jean-Ralphio Saperstein @Fordhammer
4.8 - DT - Effoff Iam Yeti @SDCore
Many thanks to @firstfray, @katarn22, @Kotasa, @IceBear32, @rapideagle, @PugWalrus, and @LordEscanor for all the help and for answering my questions! Also huge appreciation to @br0_0ker for lending me his draft primer sheet so I could manually update players' TPE as of 4/23. I updated TPE based on the prospect update and tried to be as accurate as I could.
TLDR: There is a list at the end by teams if you want to skip all this junk!
Round 1, Pick 1: Norfolk Seawolves - Graham Harper, CB - @PurpleReign
Needs: QB, WR, CB, DT
In the DSFL S34, the Norfolk Seawolves had what seemed like the worst passing defense with season-low interceptions and pass deflected. While WR is another major need for the Seawolves, I see them bringing back their amazing waiver pickup Graham Harper, with 146 TPE. In his first 2 games of the season, Graham had a solid start recording 6 tackles and 1 FF. The Seawolves will hope that form continues into next season. The player Graham Harper is ran by one of the most active rookies both in the discord and forum, PurpleReign, who has churned out some great media to afford T6 equipment.
Round 1, Pick 2: London Royals - Xavier Valorian @XaveValor
Needs: DE, DT, LB, WR
After initial callups, it seems that the London Royals will only have 1 DE returning for S35, who last logged in over a month ago. Traditionally London Royals run a 4-3 defense and hence I see them taking the consensus #1 DT prospect, Xavier Valorian with 136 TPE. In his first 2 games with the Minnesota Greyducks, Xavier was a menace on the field recording 5 tackles and 1 TFL and the Royals will hope he can make an impact with them. The player Xavier Valorian is run by the user, Xave Valorian, who has a strong presence in the DSFL rookie discord and can always be seen helping and interacting with other users. Round 1, Pick 3: Bondi Beach Buccaneers - Austin Morley @soevil
Needs: WR, DT, RB, LB
While American Boot hasn't been called up yet, BBB QB Singh will have no WR to throw to other than his trusted TE. That will soon change, as with the 3rd overall pick, the BBB will select #1, WR Austin Morley. While many will argue that there are better re-create WR out there, I suspect Austin Morley will be the steal of the draft. While he may not be the fastest receiver with a speed rating of only 71, Austin has strong hands and a strong foundation. With his 1 game played with the Seawolves last season, Morley showed his brilliance by going 6/93. The player Austin is ran by user soevil, who is another user that has had a huge presence in the rookie discord and seems to be a master media producer.
Round 1, Pick 4: Portland Pythons - Ja'uan Holland @Friesen1520
Needs: LB, RB, CB, S
The Portland Pythons will continue the trend of taking defense in the first round, especially given the fact they only have one CB on their roster, who last logged in 2 days ago but has made no effort to gain TPE since the creation of the account. Unfortunately for them, CB is the thinnest position so I believe they will employ the BPA strategy and take S Ja'uan Holland, with 133 TPE. They will hope that they can address their CB needs in the later rounds, or that Holland can play in a hybrid S/CB role. In the 2 games with the Coyotes, Holland showed his raw talent but also showcased his weaknesses, with 4 missed tackles. I don't think the Pythons will be worried about that as Holland has displayed his hard work ethic and has improved his tackling. The player Holland ran by user Frisen1520, has shown their GFX skills and will eventually become a prime-time TPE and money earner.
Round 1, Pick 5: Kansas City Coyotes - Teemo Swift @Repgnar
Needs: CB, WR, DE, DT, S
My sources tell me that the Coyotes are really high on Holland as well as they have no starting CB or S and Holland was their waiver pick. Nevertheless, unless a trade is made, I see the Coyotes selecting the #2 S prospect, Teemo Swift with 124 TPE. Swift seems to only behind Holland as the user hasn't played in any games per index, even though Swift was part of the Luchadores group. Don't let this fool you as initial reports are saying that both these users are neck to neck and will continue to be great picks. Swift has a better speed rating than Holland but also over pursuits the ball as seen by his poor tackling skills. Nonetheless, the Swift vs Holland debate will continue until the end of the season. The player Swift is ran by user Repgnar who has received some glowing compliments from Rookie Mentor - Raven. Raven had this to say after Repgnar in their mock draft "Personally Repgnar might be one of the users to pick up the integrity of this league in the shortest amount of time. I swear by their second day in the rookie discord they were already an active part of helping out other users with any questions they had."Round 1, Pick 6: Tijuana Luchadores - Charles Chapman @Charple
Needs: DL, CB, WR, OL
Currently, the Luchadores have a solid roster but have zero active defensive line players. So it makes sense that with the 6th overall pick the Luchadores take #2 DT prospect, Charles Chapman. Chapman is a true NT and will succeed in the 3-4 defense employed by the Luchadores. During his time with BBB, tape shows that when they ran a 3-4 defense, Chapman was able to absorb multiple defenders freeing up the edge and allowing Draft Steal to wreck QBs. The player Charles Chapman is ran by user Charple who is a solid TPE earner, and uses Twitter to continue funding their WT. I expect Chapman to start writing media soon as the season begins and with the expertise of the Luchadores front office, his career will be off to a great start.
Round 1, Pick 7: Minnesota Greyducks - Fred Edison @Liter
Needs: LB, CB, TE
The runners-up have a true need at the LB position, which seems to be an important position in this sim league. A team that typically ran a 3-4 defense last year would hope to continue to do so but need an LB prospect to fill that need. Luckily, their waiver pickup and star LB Fred Edison is still there for them to draft with 117 TPE. Last year in 2 games with the Greyducks, Edison recorded 3 tackles, a timely FR, and a sack which helped the team get to the Ultimini. Player Fred Edison is ran by user Liter who has shown his TPE earning and GFX poweress.
Round 1, Pick 8: Dallas Birddogs - J.T Kurbis @JoshiePoo
Needs: QB, LB, DL, OL
The Dallas Birddogs have a clear need at LB but as that is the deepest position they chose to address their OL to protect their future QB and what other way than to draft the #1 OL prospect J.T Kurbis. Kurbis started 1 game but was stellar for the Luchadores with stats of 2 pancakes and 0 sacks allowed. I expect the player who loves pancakes to get a lot of pancakes next season. Player Kurbis is ran by user JoshiePoo who has shown he can hang with the premium TPE earners and has already dabbled their toes in media.
Round 2, Pick 1: Norfolk Seawolves - Nathan Meagher @Nathan
Needs: QB, WR, CB, DT
With no DT on their roster, multiple sources have told me that the Seawolves have zeroed in prospects Nathan Meagher, and Tyrod Iverson. However, Tyrod Iverson has shown to have poor work ethic and claimed he read the playbook during his meeting with the Seawolves but couldn't answer any questions pertaining to the playbook. Hence, to start of the 2nd round, the Seawolves will select Nathan Meager. An all-purpose DT, Meagher recorded 3 tackles and 1 tfl in the 2 games he played. If Meagher can build on that, the Seawolves will be happy with this pick. Meagher is ran by user Nathan who has started to dabble in media with his series on fails. Must read series if you ask me.
Round 2, Pick 2: London Royals - Kevin McThumper @Chucky
Needs: DE, DT, LB, WR
Defense wins championships. The Royals will have their pick between DE and LB, and I believe they will select LB, Kevin McThumper who has bust written all over him. There is a bong video of him that I guess the Royals have seemed to miss. I guess having 140 TPE was too much for them to pass.
Round 2, Pick 3: Bondi Beach Buccaneers - Akaki Akyare @Ulaire
Needs: WR, DT, RB, LB
The Buccaneers have dodged a bullet, as they also need an LB. Had McThumper been there it would have been a conundrum, and many fans would have hoped the Bucs would draft him. But given the character concerns, the Buccaneers select the better LB Akaki Akyare with 116 TPE. In his 2 games with the Coyotes, Akaki showed his skillset recording 6 tackles, and since then has lit up the prospect games easily being the #1 LB. While the user isn't a media fiend (only having written 1 short piece), Akyare is a consistent TPE user which the Bucs will be happy to have.
Round 2, Pick 4: Portland Pythons - Jarvis Harbinger-Marjin @DREAMSLOTH
Needs: LB, RB, CB, S
The Pythons last season had a bottom-of-the-league rushing attacking on racking up 1550 rushing yards but were able to secure 17 touchdowns. But with only 1 running back left on the roster who has been inactive since account creation, the Python fanbase will be happy to hear that the Pythons selected Jarvis Harbinger-Marjin. The self-proclaimed "Devour of souls" has the skillset to succeed in the next season. He has shown great burst ability recording 1 carry for 12 yards and has good blocking ability seen when he pancaked "a poor soul to the next dimension". While the rest of the teams will not sleep peacefully, the python fan base will be happy with this pick. Round 2, Pick 5: Kansas City Coyotes - JR Frankenstero @Punk42AE
Needs: CB, WR, DE, DT, S
The coyotes will also continue focusing on their defense and will select DE, JR Frankenstero. They currently have 1 DE who was last active over a month ago. So having new blood, Frankenstero should help rejuvenate the rush defense. The stud had 6 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 FF, 1 FR, and 1 sack in just 4 games with the Royals. I expect Frankenstero will keep this trend with the Coyotes and be a menace to opposing QBs. Player Frankenstero is ran by user Punk42AE who seems to have experience in other sim leagues and will hope to make a splash with his player in the ISFL. Round 2, Pick 6: Tijuana Luchadores - Pete Zuh @seal
Needs: DL, CB, WR, OL
The Luchadores had one of the best offensive lines last year which led them to the best rushing attack, but recent reports suggest QB Elessar Jones is unhappy with the management after taking a league-high hit last season. In order to keep their star QB happy, it is imperative that the Luchadores buff up their OL with prospect Pete Zuh with 113 TPE. In 2 games last season Zuh allowed 0 stats and had 5 pancakes. While Zuh is a balanced prospect in the recent weeks he has improved his pass-blocking to a 70, while continuing to maintain a decent rush-blocking of 64. I expect QB Jones to be happy with this pick. Player Pete Zuh is ran by user seal who has dabbled in some media but continues to be an excellent TPE earner.
Round 2, Pick 7: Minnesota Greyducks - Quendyn Quarterstorm @Twenty6
Needs: LB, CB, TE
After shoring up their LB need, the Greyducks will hope to fill the CB need by drafting a safety who can play a hybrid CB/S position. The Greyducks will hope that prospect Quendyn Quarterstorm will be willing to play in this hybrid position, as there are few CB prospects in this draft. In the 2 games Quendyn played in, he had 8 tackles, and 1 pass deflected. However, he also had 4 missed tackles which the Greyducks will hopefully clean up. Personally, I love this pick as the kid has shown great awareness to start working out with the greats and improve his tackling and speed. Player Quarterstorm is managed by user Twenty6 who has a very active presence in the discord rooms, and has shown interest in making media and improving his player.
Round 2, Pick 8: Dallas Birddogs - Ignatius Reilly @yesboom
Needs: QB, LB, DL, OL
After the top 3 LB have been taken off the board, the Birddogs will tap into the depth of this prospect LB group. They will hope that rookie Ignatius Reilly who joined the league too late to be picked up by waivers has shined in the recent prospect bowl recording 42 tackles, 2 TFL, 3 FF, 1 FR, and 1 PD. At times he has even outperformed the top 3 LB prospects. Player Reilly is managed by user yesboom who has only posted 1 media, and the Birddogs will hope that Reilly continues making media as this may be the steal of the draft. Seeing how out of the top 10 TPE earners, 8 are recreates, the 3rd round is the perfect time in starting to pick recreates. I won't write much about them and will just be in a list format.
Round 3, Pick 1: Norfolk Seawolves - Roque Santa Cruz @Air Crou
Needs: QB, WR, CB, DT
Round 3, Pick 2: London Royals - Harley Andrews @abh89
Needs: DE, DT, LB, WR
Round 3, Pick 3: Bondi Beach Buccaneers - Sconnie McSix @g2019
Needs: WR, DT, RB, LB
Round 3, Pick 4: Portland Pythons - Suggs Upshar II @Suggs
Needs: LB, RB, CB, S
Round 3, Pick 5: Kansas City Coyotes - Octavio Perez @Raven
Needs: CB, WR, DE, DT, S
Round 3, Pick 6: Tijuana Luchadores - Zephod Beeblebrox @Mooty99
Needs: DL, CB, WR, OL
Round 3, Pick 7: Minnesota Greyducks - Mister Hogmally @iStegosauruz
Needs: LB, CB, TE
Round 3, Pick 8: Dallas Birddogs - Jean-Ralphio Saperstein @Fordhammer
Needs: QB, LB, DL, OL
Round 4, Pick 1: Norfolk Seawolves - Mandrews Mchollywood @Rusfan
Needs: QB, WR, CB, DT
Round 4, Pick 2: London Royals - Thomas Robinson @infern8
Needs: DE, DT, LB, WR
After seeing the run on recreate WRs the Royals will have to pick between Don Dobbler and Thomas Robinson. Seeing how they already have a speed receiver, it makes more sense for them to choose possession receiver Thomas Robinson to be WR 2. During the prospect bowl, Robinson has accrued 411 yards and 3 TD in 9 games. However, he has also had 5 drops. Look for Robinson to make up for those drops in the actual season as sources say he has bumped his hands to 70. I personally love his blocking skillset seen by the 7 pancakes he had during the prospect bowl. Player Robinson is ran by user infern8 who has had some reservations to media, but I expect him to put up some great media come start of the season.
Round 4, Pick 3: Bondi Beach Buccaneers - Tyrod Iverson @cluesman
Needs: WR, DT, RB, LB
After selecting the #1 TPE earner in Sonnie, Buccaneers will hope to continue the trend by selecting DT Tyrod Iverson with 104 TPE. DT is a big need for the buccaneers, as they have no active DTs on their roster. Unfortunately for them Iverson is ran by user cluesman who hasn't logged in since the 14th. Fortunately for the Buccs, they have a good rapport with Iverson as he was their DT waiver pickup last season. GM rapideagle will be quick to make phonecalls and get their DT back on the field and ready for the season.
Round 4, Pick 4: Portland Pythons - Reece Wells II @josda_
Needs: LB, RB, CB, S
While the Pythons traditionally ran a 3-4 defense last year and have a clear need at LB after having only 1 left on their active roster, they have too many needs not to employ the bpa strategy. TE Reece Wells II is the next man up for them. While Reece Wells II only has 90 TPE, they have shown great media presence. I expect all other GMs to pray that Wells slid down to them. In the prospect bowl Wells II has had 189 yards, 3 TD, and 7 pancakes. Player Reece Wells II is ran by user Josda_ who has churned out 2 amazing media pieces that has set them up for the near future. I bet they have more tpe than their update page has.
Round 4, Pick 5: Kansas City Coyotes - Bonzi Buddy @zaynzk
Needs: CB, WR, DE, DT, S
Round 4 Pick 6: Tijuana Luchadores - Mabel Pines @dude_woman
Needs: DL, CB, WR, OL
While the Tijuana Luchadores were eyeing Bonzi Buddy, they will be happy to bring back their CB2, Mabel Pines. While Mabel hasn't been seen this offseason with latest reports pointing towards last seen being the 17th, the Luchadores will hope they can convince their CB to come back for another season. In the 4 games Mable played, they recorded 6 tackles, and 3 pass deflections and looked on track to be the CB#1 for this draft process. However, due to some inactivity, the luchadores will be happy to bring Mable back in the 4th round. Mabel Pines is ran by user dude_woman who looked to be a star TPE gainer, but since has fallen off and hasn't written any media. Hopefully, the Luchadores can convince Pines to return for another solid playoff run.
Round 4, Pick 7: Minnesota Greyducks - Aqeel Steele @"AbacusAmateur"
Needs: LB, CB, TE
After addressing their top 3 needs, the Greyducks will tap into the drying DE prospect class as they have no starting DE. I expect them to pair up with DE Aqeel Steele with 103 TPE in the 4th round. While Steele hasn't shined in the recent prospect bowl having only recorded 4 tackles. and 1 TFL, I believe the power rusher from Nebraska will greatly improve this offseason. Player Steele is ran by user AbacusAmateur who has recently started being more active both in the discord and TPE earning. I envision he will be an impactful player for the Greyducks and hope he starts writing media soon.
Round 4, Pick 8: Dallas Birddogs - Effoff Iam Yeti @SDCore
Needs: QB, LB, DL, OL
