It's Tijuana Luchadore fan appreciation day! As fans come into the gates, if they are 1-2 hours early, they are met by a line of players, ready to sign autographs and take pictures. Because of this, there is a huge crowd of fans at the stadium early who will get to enjoy a pregame show performed by real life Luchadores! As they are chased by bulls around the field, the Luchadores put on a performance of a lifetime, cheered on by the engrossed fans of Tijuana. After all the festivities are over, the game is played and fans enjoy $1 beers and $0.50 hot dogs for the entire first half, with half priced dip n dots and $1 soft drinks in the second half. By the end of the game, fans are rowdy, a little tipsy, and very much hyped up on sugar and good feels as they head home from a wonderful fan appreciation day.
The Yellowknife Wraith's management team announced the news at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon: There will be a Hunger Games style fight to the death for a lifelong season ticket. Normally, fans wait outside of the ticket office for days before the season tickets come on sale. Every year there at least three brawls while fighting for a spot in the line. While the Wraiths do not condone violence, they figured that they might as well put some parameters on the fighting and provide the fans with the tools they need to decide who is the loyalest of them all.
"We want to thank our fans for their support and extreme dedication," said team president and GM Zoot. "This is our way of giving back to them." The free season tickets are good for the Wraith's home games at the Yellowknife Community Arena for the duration of the season ticket holder's life. They cannot be transferred or sold. The team also announced that it will be giving away a free stick of gum to the first 1,000 fans who attend the team's home opener under the Northern Lights.

I love fans, so I would try and put on the best celebration possible. I also love to mess with the opponents. I think you can see where this is going. For the celebration I organized for everyone to wear a full black outfit with nothing else. When halftime came around everyone but the opposing fans were wearing black so for the halftime show everyone could easily identify the opposing fans. Then the lights would turn off. Chaos would ensue with lasers being pointed at everybody not wearing black. The lasers would then broadcast each seats location on the big screen. Everyone would then play bingo with the locations of opposing fans on there board. The winner would get to visit the locker room and everybody who wore black would get invited onto the field for the rest of the half. Everybody would get a complementary apple or banana as well as a cool sticker. And a medium Pepsi.

It is long overdue that the Dallas Birddogs put on a fan appreciation day. Fan favorite, Tank McGibbons, the charismatic offensive lineman turned linebacker, has taken the lead this year. Tank has arranged for the street outside of the stadium to be closed for the day. Several food trucks line the street, with several activities for the kids such as bounce houses and throwing challenges. Everything aside from alcohol has been paid for by the players themselves. "The fans spend so much time, money, and energy for us, its the least we could do" Dallas GM Hammer is on record as saying. For season ticket holders, there is a player meet and greet area where autographs can be signed and pictures taken. But the best part is the youth/pro flag football game. Kids can sign up to play with their favorite pro players! So far there have only been 24 injured children from questionable flag pulls, so its been a success.

The perfect fan appreciation event serves multiple purposes. For starters coordinated free t shirts are a sure fire hit. I am a personal fan of black outs and white outs, commonly seen at college football games. Meaning, everyone in the stands gets an all black or all white shirt. The color synchronized stadium can intimidate the visiting team. Or, more creatively, some writing or pictorial designs could be incorporated if the shirts are placed in the seats before hand. Though this would require everyone sitting in their assigned seat and assumes no one gets greedy and swaps their assigned color for another.
Alternatively, fan appreciation could be easily expressed through a raffle system. Teams create so much merch that it would hardly be a drop in the bucket to give away a signed hat, glove, or jersey to a lucky 500 fans or so. And to make up for the other masses of people who didn't win, a hefty discount at the team shop could go a long way. |
