8. Perhaps the most fitting award for Simon the Frog to receive is something along the lines of "diversity inspiration award". Because, to be frank, Simon is as "diverse" as one can be. While there are many players with multicultural background, Simon took the definition of the term to a bit of an extreme. Being a frog-human hybrid, he comes from not only multicultural(he recognizes himself as an Asian because that's where he was 'born'), but also multi-specie background. And until he became the good player he is now, he went through a lot of hardships because of identity. When Simon first started out at high school, he was not received with a warm welcome. He was a complete stranger for one -he never attended any elementary or middle school- and he was a stranger with strange appearances at that. So at his high school, Simon's nickname was 'the freak'. Of course, that moniker also took note of his freakish athletic ability -especially jumping- but it was mostly denoting his strange appearance, with green skin, lanky arms and legs. So during his high school years, Simon never had many friends despite being a star football athlete. The situation did not change much after his enrollment to Oregon. While there were no more open jeers and name-callings -this was college after all- but people still gawked at Simon whenever he passed by, andhe still didn't have many friends. But despite all that, he got all over that and became a successful pro player, even going second overall in the draft. And after his pro debut, Simon has been consistently giving in efforts to help out players with minority origins, in order to prevent them from suffering as he did. And apart from that, the very fact that he became a very successful ISFL player despite his origins will serve as great inspiration and motivation for future players. (317)
9. If I was to be named a commissioner of this leaue, I'd like to make some changes to the awards system, first of all. In ny opinion, the current award system is too much focused on the 'player' side of things. Most of the awards are given out based on player stats, and how much they did well in the sim. While this kind of award is of course needed -the ISFL is a sim league after all- but I'd like to see more awards focus on the user behind the players. Player awards are hard to get, and users often resort to quite drastic measures -such as pressuring their teams to overly utilize their player at an expense of another- to get those awards and the 'holy grail' that is the Hall of fame. While that pursuit is in no ways wrong, I feel like too much users are going that route nowadays. And those award- focused players are seldom good for team, causing personnel problems. So instead, I'd like to see more awards- things like "best media", "best graphics- to celebrate a user for what they did for the community. In that way, we can celebrate a user in other ways than their players or hard-to-seek MDM awards. And also, we can promote league engagement with those awards. Let's take the "best media" award for an example. My draft of that award has entries being submitted season-round for weekly basis, and "best media of the week" being selected at the end of each week through user voting in places such as the general discord. And at the end of the season, the weekly best entries will be entered into a competition within themselves to select the best media piece of the season, with the selection method again being a poll in general discord. This method will promote activity in both media section and general discord, areas where the league really need some activities in. (326)
