If I were able to select a team of ISFL players by hand picking anyone that I wanted to join my team, without worrying about things like the draft, the salary cap, or tampering charges, my team would look something like the following:
Quarterback: Roque Santa Cruz (729 TPE)
Running Back: Dante King (636 TPE)
Running Back: Michaelangelo McTurtle (1157 TPE)
Running Back: Nakiri Ayame (125 TPE)
Wide Receiver: Squidward Tentacles (332 TPE)
Wide Receiver: Florida Man (50 TPE)
Defensive Tackle: Mario Moloka’i (311 TPE)
Defensive Tackle: Effoff IamYeti (218 TPE)
Defensive End: Jean-Ralphio Saperstein (589 TPE)
Defensive End: Alex Armstrong (84 TPE)
Linebacker: Sheriff Woody (666 TPE)
Cornerback: De'Aaron Harper II (751 TPE)
Cornerback: Anthony Stark (867 TPE)
Cornerback: Brock Landers Jr. (409 TPE)
Safety: Regina Ferraro (1096 TPE)
Safety: Inactive Player (50 TPE)
Kicker/Punter: Mike Makmur (233 TPE)
At first glance, this roster may not make much sense. There is only one player who has earned more than 1,000 TPE over the course of their career, and it's an odd mix of old, washed up veterans like Dante King and Squidward Tentacles alongside extremely young players like Alex Armstrong and Florida Man. There's certainly no clear championship window in sight for this team to reach a shared peak and vault itself into contention. The team is also missing some key positions, namely any tight ends or offensive linemen, meaning quarterback Roque Santa Cruz may find himself running for his life. The team also looks to offset its pass catching deficiencies with a trio of running backs, and will often line up in a dime formation on defense due to the presence of just a single linebacker. So why would this be the team I assemble? If you look at the users behind each of these players, they are folks who joined the league as players in the season 15 NSFL draft class, which is when I first became a member of the league. While one or two of these players might be original veterans who were on their second player at the time, this list largely represents all that remains of that wonderful period in league history, and these are all players who I hold close to my heart. Many of us never got a chance to play together because we made up the core of the league for the late teens and early twenties seasons, so it would be wonderful to get this group of people together in a shared locker room. We'd probably lose like all of our games though.
