It’s been a weird start to DJ Maclean’s second season in the DSFL. His rookie season was better than he expected, and included a DSFL Pro Bowl nod, even if he wasn’t anywhere close to any awards or anything. He looked like an extremely solid all-around linebacker, playing a more unfamiliar role in the middle of the LB corps. He had coverage stats, sacks, was top-10 in the league for tackles. Obviously, this was as part of a dominant Bondi Beach team, who went last to best in consecutive seasons. They lost the majority of their passing offense through call ups, but the defense remained largely intact, so we’re expected to be dominant again.
This does not appear to be the case, however. The offense is struggling with a rookie QB under Center and an Inexperienced receiving corps. For some reason, it appears to also be dragging down the previously dominant defense. Maclean is currently 23rd in the league in tackles, behind 2 of his BBB linebacker brethren and their Safety, Mary Marie. He also finally recorded his first sack in his 5th game of the season. Maclean needs to step things up, and hopefully arrest the worst-best-worst speedrun BBB are on.
